Fascinating. A tour circuit, from Fort William to Serampore-Chandernagar-Chinsurah-Bandel is on my wishlist. Thank for the beautiful video. Kudos to the Museum of Denmark for taking up the restoration work.
One of the best vlogs I have come across on Serampore. The local government not only should uphold the rich history but should do more to beautify the surrounding areas of these historical places/building specially the ghats of Ganges
As the great great great great grandson of Dr William Carey DD, I salute the Serampore Initiative and the fantastic work that they have achieved at Serampore. I was privileged to meet Bente Wolff at Serampore in 2015 and saw some of the work in progress then. This film is beautifully put together and is most interesting.
I am origonally from that area - now a long-time resident of the US. Would you care to share more info? Your UA-cam channel has no content - how do others know for sure about your claimed lineage?
These towns along the west coast of Hooghly were the life blood of south Bengal's cultural renaissance and centres of burgeoning trade. Serampore (Danish) and Chandernagore (French till 1957) were the last two European colonies. But Chunchura (Chinsurah, Dutch), Hooghly (Ugulim, Portuguese), Bandel (Portuguese), and briefly Baidyabati / Rishra (German), were other important colonies. This is a fantastic effort to preserve the historical buildings and artifacts especially at a time when most of the world is trying to erase their history.
Delighted to see this video. I grew up in Serampore. My father Professor M. N. Biswas was associated with Serampore College for 52 years as a student, a Professor and finally the Principal. We lived on the college campus. I grew up on the river bank. I studied in Serampore College. Graduated from Serampore College in 1965 with a BA (Hons) degree. My father built his retirement house in Mallickpara. As a young boy and man I knew every nook and corner of Serampore. I know all the buildings that have been renovated. I have many glorious memories of Serampore especially going to St.Olaf’s Church during Christmas. I will go to Serampore one more time before I die. My roots are in Serampore. I have to see my mother one more time. She is buried in the Carey Cemetery in Serampore. Sincerely, Dr. Bhaskar Biswas
Dear Bob, small comment compelled me to recall my humble 5years of close association with your respected father late Mr Manmatha Nath Biswas, (1954-58), firstly as a student, secondly, being a devoted NCC cadet. Most probably I had been the 1st Senior Under officer, (SUO) under Capt. M. N. Biswas Sir. If I remember correctly visited your Mallickpara house(year 1967), wherein my maternal uncle had been his neighbour. At the moment I'm a domiciled citizen of Rajasthan since 1962. I'm fortunate to have so many sweet memories of the moments spend with him on various occasions!
I felt sad to see the pathetic way the Carey cemetry and the college campus is maintained at present. It has to be brought back to its old glory. It needs to be given back its old University status. At least a deemed university status.
Beautiful documentary....Proud to be a resident of Serampore. And many thanks to the Danish Government for comming forward and to restructure of the Historic icons.
The documentary has aptly and beautifully highlighted the rich historical heritage of Sreerampore। The narrations in Bengali as well as in English are excellent। Thanks to my colleague Ujjal Gupta, a resident of Sreerampore and ex student of Sreerampore College, for forwarding me the video।
Really feel happy.. Now I’m part of Srerampore as business owner..As a BENGALI, I love my culture a lot..After watching this video really I feel wow 🥰🥰🥰
It is really fantastic and feel proud to know the previous history, culture and education of this places by the then people of India & Denmark. Thanks to the hidden heroes who has taken lot of time & labour to prepare this Film.
It's great to see such hidden relics of Bengal being brought out. Was never even aware of such a rich history. Hope the good work of restoration and maintenance continues.
Thank you so much to the team for making this video. Had know idea about Serampur, thought it's mainly famous for Rathyatra of Mahesh . This town is actually even older than Kolkata!! Excellent work...thanks again..
A town which had multiple strata of History....the pre Urbanization period was dominated by the Indian Hindu cultural history ( Mahesh Temple, Radhaballav temple, Doltala temple)...Next came the colonial Urbanization period led by the Danish....& After that the Industrialization phase which was dominated by the British... Serampore was also a hub of Education, culture & information .. Serampore College, British Missionaries & Missionary Printing Press shows the evidence of promising propagation of Education & culture through precious heritage.
I must say that not only the content but also the whole presentation was undoubtedly at professional level. Animations and transitions were so good. We all knew nuggets of historical facts about our beloved Serampore city, but presenting the whole in a form like this is absolutely blissful and breathtaking. Thank you creaters.
Very professionally made video documentary. An elevating experience, my mind transcended back to the days of European colonialism of which I believe Danish colonial approach was more humane and cooperative. Thanks to Dr Bhaskar Chowdhury and his team for transporting me back to the glorious days of Serampore Trio. I really long to visit the historic town having had its facelift thru' the collaboration of the Government of Denmark and the Government of West Bengal.🙏💐
This is the best way to get our history so relevant to our new and future generation. Salute to the people of Denmark to show us the way and inspiring us. I lived on the other side of the river Ganga. Proud to see Shrirampur to claim its new historical identity and inspiring me to visit again with much more to expect.
Feel myself a little bit fortune to get the live documentary on our historical & sweet town of Serampore. We are delighted to have the complete history including our heart touching relation to foreign countries. Thanks a lot to all concerned persons, for the successful launch of this mega event. -from Subhankar De
This is such a wonderful work...this work of restoration not only brings to the fore narratives of our lost heritage and history but it will also inspire many such works. This is the plurality of India. Congratulations.
Thank you for making the video - great drone shots. It was good to see Henry Martyn's pagoda and the Serampore College of William Carey, Marsham and Ward. They loved India so much. Great restoration work. The book 'Carey Christ and Cultural Transformation' by Ruth & Vishal Manalwadi reveals the extent of their work in India towards the people they loved.

Just lovely.. Even I don't know the exact history, that Sreerampore was a Danish Colony. Being reside in Kolkata, I used to know that opposite site of Hooghly river is only a french settlement area. Very very informative documentary. Editing, drone shot, voice...👌👌👌 I want to say thanks and good wishes to the entire team associated with this.. Waiting for another gem in coming future..💐
