Мне кажется, что мало кто с таким изяществом может поднять парнёршу, как Годунов.
Это не русский балет, сразу видно... Они даже не могут поднять руки одновременно. Я смотрю только на Годунова.
Некорректное сравнение. Они за свои деньги учились. А в СССР на уровне государства поддерживали.
В Годунове не на что смотреть. Невольно задумываешься, есть ли у него сердце или перед тобой робот. Подставка для балерины. Martine Van Hamel - вот кто создал их дуэт здесь. Так же, как в Большом театре дуэт с Годуновым создавала Майя Плисецкая, а он был лишь удобной подставкой, даже в Кармен! Я смотрела многих балерин в этой роли, но Martine Van Hamel - единственный человек, который заставил меня плакать в роли Раймонды слезами восхищения и счастья. Чистота, красота, и живое сердце! У всех солистов и кордебалета больше нерва, чем у Годунова, в танце! Сольная вариация Годунова - это не "Раймонда", это "Спартак". Так что не "Бедный мальчик", как пишут здесь поклонники Годунова, а бедная девочка, которая не получила эмоционального отклика от партнера!
И получали роли и положение в театре за лояльность государству многие.
These were the Golden Days of Ballet when amazing wonderful dancers forgot all about technique...their amazing technique and virtuosity was all deep within them and left behind on rehearsals, it was all about performing!!!
Martine Van Hamel is the first dancer to ever bring tears (of joy) to my eyes. I really stared to cry because she is just so beautiful. Her movements are so precise. Her artistry is incomparable. She is the best dancer I have ever seen.

КАКАЯ ЖЕ ОНА ЗДОРОВЕННАЯ... В талии больше Годунова а ведь он был ростом 193 см... С КАКИМИ КОРОВАМИ ЕМУ ПРИШЛОСЬ ТАНЦЕВАТЬ НА ЗАПАДЕ...
один Не стоит зря обижать Мартину и других балерин, с которыми Годунову пришлось сотрудничать зарубежом... Они помогли ему сделать балетную карьеру и подтвердить себя на западе. Мартина может быть несколько более атлетична и спортивна, чем этого требует балет в нашем российском понимании. Ведь среди её учителей не было таких, как Капралис и Ермолаев ... Ей не пришлось заниматься в Большом театре в классе Асафа Мессерера. У неё нет такой школы как у Годунова... Он - первый из всех гениев балетной сцены России, союза, лучший танцовщик Государственного Академического Большого театра, да и вообще всего 20 века... Она - всего лишь солистка частной балетной труппы... У него Божий дар...Она - яркая, талантливая и красивая труженица. Прочтите пожалуйста комментарии... Почти все они посвящены ей... На сцене она себя держит как настоящая звезда. Она умеет себя подать на все 100. Стоит сказать Мартине спасибо уже хотя бы за то, что сегодня у нас есть возможность видеть этот спектакль, уникальную красоту и одухотворённость нашего лучшего танцовщика... Он словно бы парит в воздухе, едва касаясь сцены... Какая уникальная выразительность рук, какая пластика, пропорциональность... А какая дивная у него душа, исполненная высоких чувств, светлая, чистая, полётная... Мартина придала спектаклю какую-то иную окраску, другой школы, к которой мы не привыкли... Если Вы видели работы Александра с другой балериной АБТ - Синтией Грегори, я полагаю, Вы могли бы дать ей значительно более высокую оценку. Её танец куда более нежен и женственен. Мартина же атлетична, сильна и в состоянии "вытянуть" весь спектакль, что уже вызывает уважение к ней. Балет - это тяжелейший труд, и стоит ценить в этом общем для многих людей творении вклад каждого отдельного человека, даже если эти люди не безупречны. Хотя бы из уважения к нашему лучшему солисту. На балетной сцене он - первый из первых, его не сравнишь ни с кем... Из всех партнёрш только Майя Плисецкая могла составить с ним настоящий творческий дуэт... А кого сравнишь с Майей? Только Александра... Два гения, актёрский балетный дуэт №1 в мире... Кто хоть раз видел их вместе на сцене - никогда уже не забудет...

Спасибо Вам, Natalia. Ничего не могу сказать о Мартине, но Вы очень точно передали всю уникальность Александра Годунова. Я абсолютно так же воспринимаю и ощущаю его. Светлая ему память.

Согласна. В России балет - государственное искусство. Потому и брошены на него все силы. Неизвестно, что было бы с Плисецкой, если бы ей пришлось платить за обучение. А Синтия Грегори понравилась мне больше Макаровой.
Ahhhhhhhh the Golden Years at ABT (in my opinion). Thank you for sharing this delightful video! Martine Van Hamel was such an amazing dancer-beautiful artistry, perfect technique, and so regal!
Glad to find other Van Hamel enthusiasts! Much as I enjoy the newer crop of dancers with their insane extensions and zillions of turns, Martine was an incomparable artist. I watched the first few seconds of this (which I have on tape and guess I better get on DVD fast) and just thought, "No one moves like her." I don't know that anyone ever will. If I had to give up all but one of my tapes, I'd keep her Sylvia with Patrick Bissell.
I was an extra in the full length version by Nureyev..Martine was a very good Raymonda...Also sw the opening night in NYC with Cynthia Gregory,Nureyev and Erik Bruhn. It was glorious night for Cynthia .

Martine Van Hamel - was such a solid most beautiful ballerina to watch. Just beautiful to watch!
I saw the premiere of this at the Kennedy Center (with Martine!). You do sort of have to keep in mind that what ABT was trying to do here was not a recreation of the whole ballet but more of a pastiche like Balanchine's Slavonic Dances, so they had to do some massaging. Also, Martine was fairly tall and, as when Bujones and Gregory danced together, they sometimes had to adapt (although, yeah, Gudonov could probably have benched 400.)
Martine Van Hamel embodies classicism at its purest here. Extraordinary.

Even when they say it is 'Petipa' or 'after Petipa' every single major ballet company does different productions, variations, solos, steps, and stagings of every Petipa ballet. There is no way you, or anyone else can pontificate that 'that is not Petipa's choreography'--we no longer have living links to him.

There is less than no point in arguing about this. (Many of the stagings you obviously loathe, by the way, were done by people 'knowledgeable about the period.' ) I am not discussing legibility of notation; I am discussing the fact that emotion, timing, epaulement, acting, conceptions of what is or is not 'on the music,' et cetera ad nauseam, cannot be notated like minutes from a board meeting. As I said, any further exchange would clearly be useless.
Ансамбль Моисеева недоделанный! )) Ха-Ха! Представляю, что ощущал Годунов после его Русской школы - это ужасно, когда приходится опускаться на уровень ниже!
Не преувеличивайте. Есть неплохие танцоры. Посмотрела бы я, что стало бы с Васильевым и Плисецкой, если бы их не обучали за счёт государства. В России ещё с царских времён танцоров взращивали. А в США сам за всё плати. Вот и экономят на всём. А если б государство им помогало, не хуже были бы.
I couldn't agree less about notation, which is notoriously unreliable. Even MUSICAL notation is a cipher, a hieroglyphic which must be decoded and figured out--and it is hundreds of times more straightforward than dance notation, especially dance notation from the past. We most certainly do need living links in order to have any pretension of 'authenticity' whatsoever. The issue isn't that the choreography WILL EVER be exactly what he intended, but that it be in the correct style and esthetic.
