      Andrew I bought your course in the summer and this January 2023 I had a meeting with the Meta Marketing pro team and they said the best way is to run brand awareness or engagement ads with 15 second videos to a link tree or any hyper link. They said to only target one country at a time unless you have a massive budget. What are your thoughts on this?

    Andrew, thank you for the very informative video. Could you please clarify if it's possible to determine, in the early stages of song promotion, which metrics can indicate whether a song will perform well in the future and if it's worth continuing to allocate the ad budget? Are there specific metrics like CTR or saves-to-listener ratio that can help predict this? Thanks

    8:43 Hey Andrew, great video, been following you for a while now, and really love your content! Quick question: you said you chose specific times when the algorithm was bumping your numbers to invest in 3rd party playlisting because the algorithm already understood the genre, but how did *you* know who to pitch to based on that? The way I understand it when pitching to play listers is that you help pinpoint the genres for them or at least similar artists. Did the Spotify analytics help you uncover that? If so, how?

    Hi. Thanks for your videos, I've been able to use them for a few successful campaigns. However, I wonder if my CPC to Content Click ratio of 1:4 isn't a bit too high (I mean the stats from facebook itself and not toneden). I know that the CPC is always cheaper, but 1:4 is that high, that I think, that there could be some technical issues for some users (or warnings because of the link), too. Could you tell me your average ratio? Maybe it could be a topic for a video: For example, it would be interesting to know, if you experienced differences between the landing page hosts.

    not every song is going to perform like that, and often variation is pretty big. From my small experience, there are exceptional songs that get 200k+ streams just off of 400$ spent in first two weeks, but then there will be songs where you double the budget and it barely gets 20-30k. There is no one recipe for success and many things have to come together for such results (budget, song quality, radio friendliness etc.). But big budget certainly increases the chance.

    Andrew, could you please talk more about how the song performance changed week over week? Like at which point you hit RR, how did it do, then DW, etc. At which points you increased the spend. Currently running ads on the song we just dropped slightly over a month ago, on a similar budget, popularity score 41, 70K streams, tons of user playlist adds, yet DW is being super slow to pick up, in the last 3-4 weeks only giving us a few hundred streams TOTAL, which is definitely discouraging (on top of only 15% followers listening to our song, WITH Marquee campaigns). Trying to figure out our next course of action, cause unfortunately we can't afford to burn this high budget without big algorithmic help (like in your case it's around 50%, in ours, around 20%). Now I'm debating whether to still wait for it, or drop the spend, cause another release is coming later this month... Thank you for any feedback!

    • @the_Distortionist

      @WordPressU Рік тому

      @@the_Distortionist I agree - I bake my "sample" recipe - based on algorithm response I make a bigger batch - allocate more money into best performing aspects of the campaign - or reserve the "ingredients" for another sample batch. If you are always in the kitchen you know with exact timing when its going to be time to cook again - when you get a winner you want the money to be there else you just made a banging sample batch and that's all you're gonna make at that point.

    the song was added to 3 playlists (which look like botted playlists 11:10) on 26 May so in only 5 days about 14% of the total streams (~200K) for the song came from just those 3 user playlists. the playlisting services are definitely inflating the numbers so it seems like the song is performing better than it actually is. Still a great performance but just something to note and for anyone watching its best to stay away from playlist promotions.
    something that could influence the follower count is probably the genre of music, fans of this genre probably like the genre more than any specific artist. also follower metric on spotify is one of the most annoying.. at times it seems to be the most influential metric and then other times like in this scenario it doesn't count for anything haha... also we can't see who the followers are or retarget them in anyway hopefully spotify improve on this soon (surely they would move to a more social media type of platform).
    great video as always andrew

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  Рік тому +7

      From checking the playlists in Artist Tool and Chartmetric, and S4A, they look safe. Normal engagement metrics, countries distribution, follower growth over time etc.
      The purpose of us using the 3rd party playlisting is to inflate the stream count, but only by a little bit (10-15%) *after* Spotify starts spreading the song algorithmically. We aren't trying to inflate it for vanity sake though. We're inflating it so the Spotify algorithm seems the song getting bigger and bigger, without letting the playlists take over too big of a percentage.
      This hybrid ads / playlist strategy is definitely getting into black magic territory though. The theory is that Spotify wants to see a song continually growing, and if it does it will keep rewarding it with algorithmic coverage. However playlisting engagement metrics suck, so its important you don't corrupt Spotify's algorithmic model of who the song is for. In practice i've seen it work a few times, but its hard to prove for sure since you can't really A/B test it.

      @@AndrewSouthworth yes I guess from my experience I can say I got RR all the time when I did slap house, but when I did my own type of "pop" nothing happened lol. I should correct my statement, when I say strong genre, I meant to say niche genre, not broad. And "trending" is even better if you can find something like that. In my experience, I think its because people who listen to slap house are likely to put my song in a slap house playlist. Similarly anyone who like dubstep metal will put their song in a playlist with similar, and that niche feeds into Spotify´s algorithm pushing you out. Hip Hop and also Pop are a bit too broad.

    Hey, Growing streams alone is not enough effort for an artist. For long-term success, artists need to build a genuine fan base, and social media is the most vital tool for doing so.
    If a music gets 1 million streams, it is unlikely that they will return for a new release. So, once again, artists must pay for steams.

Furthermore If I plan on releasing an entire album but only one song is advertised on Facebook can I just count on the other tracks on that album to be immensely outshined? Thanks in advance.

      Rain is getting 30k-40k streams per day, and right now the new EP has gotten about 35k streams in the 3 weeks its been out. Basically the new song isn't doing well with ads, so most of the streams are just people that liked rain checking out his other songs or from people that followed him from Rain.
      This is fairly normal. Sometimes the spill over to other music is much better, sometimes its worse. If you're promoting an album it isn't the same as this though because those songs are all on the same release, meaning after people hear one song it will autoplay the next song.
      If a song takes of algorithmically on that album though, it doesn't mean the other songs will get a large lift. Because only that individual song will be on those algorithmic playlists.

    Isnt it kinda bad to do this kind of a big budget campaign with only 1 song (on spotify)?People are less likely to follow with only 1 song they heard (me including, i also listen to 2-3 before following. Many people have just 1 good song and then i wont follow personally). Also with a few more songs you could have put them into this release and the 2nd song would have at least gotten 10% of the plays the 1st song got.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  11 місяців тому

      Its all real people, I have several other videos that go over this. It's advertising, showing ads to people in between content on social media. You actually get most of your streams AFTER the campaign is over. Plus the spill over to social media followers, DM's and UA-cam views / subscribers is pretty great.
      You can check the song on Spotify yourself. Additionally we haven't run a single campaign on the song focused on UA-cam music, but the song has 126k on UA-cam Music.
      If we wanted bots this would be the most expensive way to get them. We specifically do this because we want highly engaged real listeners.

If they know they’re gonna make whatever they invest back, then it’s a no brainer. Kendrick album promo campaigns ran in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is chump change to the big league.

      While a certain amount of growth is expected song after song, even the most famous artists in the world have marketing budgets. Nobody ever really stops paid marketing, not even brands like Apple and Coca Cola and Nike, which are universally known.
      Another thing worth pointing out, they increased their budget in stages. Most people do that. They started with a smaller budget, we told them the campaign was crushing it and asked if they wanted to increase so they did. It kept doing better, they kept increasing.
      I'd imagine the next song they'd do a similar strategy since it worked so well for this one. They'll definitely profit on this release with Spotify alone, never mind the other DSP's and other monetization sources.
