This build video will cover the steps I took to make this DIY elevated food bowl feeder. The material used was mostly plywood and some poplar wood as well. I decided to make this because I have a larger dog and he always looked uncomfortable eating from dog bowls on the ground. The height is approximately 12" off the ground and about 21" wide to support two dog bowls. The storage drawer is perfect for holding dog food or treats. I used 14" slides for the drawer. My dog loves this so far and it's been a great addition to our kitchen. Learn how to make this raised dog food bowl station yourself! Enjoy!
What do you think about the drawer pull, the metal rod or the bone? Let me know below!
what metals did you use and what was the size for the plywood and the poplar board?
Glad you did the biscuits, gives me reason to use mine. Great job!!
Thank you! I think they would have worked great if the angle was at exactly 45 degrees and the cut was a little deeper. Either way, it definitely helped with alignment.
Great idea. Love having storage instead of just wasted space.
Thanks! Perfect little spot to keep treats.
Dig the dog bone handle. And the back splash trim is a good idea. Nice build.
Thank you!
Amazing job! I don’t have some of those tools so I’d probably modify things a bit but your shop and attention to detail is impressive ❤
The dog bone is what made this awesome! Great job :)
Why thank you, I appreciate that!
A+ on adding the dog bone😂🦴🤙
Haha, thanks! I thought it'd be a nice touch 🦴
Love this and your dog is adorable ♥️
Thank you!
I stumbled across your channel on accident and now I am obsessed. You explain everything so clearly, and make it seem so easy! I cannot wait to start my new hobby thanks to you!
Thank you!! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
@@CasualBuilds how much plywood do i need?
I’ve seen guys install the drawer slides and then build the drawer to size. You’re either really good or lucky having it fit so perfectly. Good video though, excited for more!
Thanks! Stay tuned for my next video either tomorrow or the day after. There's a section where I explain how to get perfectly fitting drawers!
It looks so nice!
Thanks!!
If I had a CNC I’d do something like that too. I’ll be using a metal one for mine since that’s what I have on hand lol
Wicked build btw! I like it.
Any idea how much food the drawer holds for the 14 size you built? I would like to store a 30 lb bag.
what metals did you use and what was the size for the plywood and poplar board?
Have you had problems with water getting under the bowl and down into the drawer?.....from where the dog splashes it around and slobbers it everywhere? If so, how did you deal with the problem? That was the problem I had with the one I built years ago....
I haven't had problems with that fortunately. The bowls I got are pretty deep.
great video and idea! for experience with my messy dogo i will put a rim on the base of the bowls so the water or crumbs don't fall down on the drawer and plexiglass for easy cleaning. how is your drawer now after almost a year?
Thanks! It's held up nicely over the last year - no complaints!
Very nice, greetings👋👋
Thank you! 👋
Hi. First congrats for this great food place for your dog, sure he/she enjoy a lot with that. Can I ask the sizes of that build? LxHxD. Thanks
It's like 24" wide and 12" tall and deep.
Honestly wish I found your channel sooner because your videos take the pressure off from a "perfection" standpoint. There is this weird gap between doing DIY quality and professional design that doesn't seem to be acceptable in the community. You either do it absolutely perfect OR you enjoy it for it's minor inconsistencies. Your channel seems to bridge that happy middle ground.
I try, thank you!
Like the bone 🦴,,thanks for sharing
Agreed, the bone was the best option - thanks for watching!
what causes the imperfections in the miter cuts? i made some faux beams last week and some fit together perfectly and some needed putty like you did.. is it a bad blade, or board movement while cutting, or wood warped different? it was buggin me
Yeah, it could be all of those things. I'm still trying to perfect my miters. Watch the box video from Chris Salamone, he talks about adjusting the angle slightly to help close the gaps.
Awesome!
Thanks, Shane!
I made my last paint mixer from an old 1 1/2" spade bit by grinding the points. The next day I found my actual mixer and tossed it in the "unused tool" box.
Smart! Works better I presume?
@@CasualBuildsI wouldn't say better, but just as good. 99% of the coatings I use come in quarts. It's perfect for those, but I didn't throw the mixer away because the spade bit is too short for a gallon. The best part of it all, nobody wants to "borrow" a useless drill bit and never return it.
I'm starting this build today, will definitely subscribe for future installments...
Hahaha there ya go! Thanks for the support!
Thanks- I look forward to making something like this. Do you know what breed your dog is? Looks very similar to mine, but I don't know what he's a mix of.
Good luck! Great question, he's a mix of a few different breeds. We did a DNA test and there were like 6 different types and I honestly forget - sorry!
@@CasualBuilds we did a dna test too and it said he was a mix of amstaff, boxer, and rat terrier.. But he's 100 lbs, so who knows lol
In total how many pieces of plywood did you use? Going to Home Depot tomorrow and just wasn’t sure
I honestly can't remember because I used a few scraps of plywood for the outer box. I do believe that I used one 24"x48" sheet for the drawer though.
How long did it take.
I'm honestly not sure and the time it takes me to do projects is definitely going to be longer than usually because I'm filming everything.
👍👍
Do you have plans for this? I'd love to make this, but I'm a plans kinda girl.
Work in progress!
Any update on plans for this? Would love to build these for my doggos!
Woodwork
Just what I want!! Except I want one with a lid so no mice or rats can get to the food. Also to control my dogs eating. Why doesn't anyone ever make lids??
I'm sure it can be done!
A simple piano style hinge with another piece of ply and a handle should work well for a lid. You could also router in a round groove so it clears the bowls and still fits flush on the top
The bone was definitely better! It was more creative
Agreed!
Awesome !
Thanks!
