Montana Rail Link Minnesota Memories -A Look Back-

- The Montana Rail Link will disappear into the history books at the end of 2023, and will become part of the BNSF Railway. Having been established in October of 1987, it grew to become one the of renowned and well known regional railroads in all of North America. This video highlights a few times when MRL power came to Minnesota, over the past few years.
In this clip, we'll some of the few times I caught MRL power when it visited Minnesota. Over the years, power would stray over this way, and it was nice to get a taste of this neat railroad. While I never got out to the MRL itself, it was a treat to see, and catch these few trains over the years. Lets hope the MRL power stays with BNSF Railway for MANY years after the merger.

BNSF has taking over MRL
That they sadly have. :/
Its really to bad you never made it out here to MT. I spent many days watching heavy trains going over Bozeman Hill with SD-45 helper sets the roar of them echoing off the canyon walls was amazing. BNSF will get rid of all the cool and rare power they had.
I recently bought some N scale SD40-2s that gonna get repainted for MRL 250 and gonna purchase a second SD70Mace in the MRL paint in my way of paying tribute to the railroad
It's sad to think, it's all over tonight...
Sad day for railroading to say the least! :/
bnsf better not complain about not having enough locomotives or people working for them@@SD457500
Any idea why these three locomotives were 700 miles from home?
I think it was something along the lines of run through power, and sheer luck. Certainly a neat catch to see. In 2008, they were leased to CP for a bit.
Saw MRL when I went to Montana. Man I wish I recorded videos of them. Got some pictures of a SD40 when it was working a yard. Love the video, happy new years to ya.
At least you got to see the MRL when it was the MRL. Thanks for watching, and the comment!
Fly high MRL
1987 - 2024
They had a GREAT run. :/ Hope you enjoyed the video!
@0:17, prince of the rails, MRL 250
RIP MRL
I hope the power and ops don't change for quite a while!
Yep
Goodbye mrl rr 😞
Hopefully the BNSF takeover is slow, and MRL lasts for many many years.
Wow that sure was a long time
It was, and a treat to see! Thanks for watching, and the comment.
@@SD457500 You're welcome
Huh, didn’t know mtr often had trains run to Minnesota. Still, nice to now right before their end.
It was *very* rare when it happened, but was a treat on the off chance it did. Thanks for watching!
@@SD457500 I see
RIP MRL
I wish I could see some of those locomotives
I know a few of them are still around! I need to get out to Montana one of these days; thanks for watching.
