      Filming bees in the bright sun is tough. A cloud goes over and everything is dark. 😔

    Just wondering why you don't remove queen caps...
    Doesn’t it take you a tiny bit more time and attention when you see those on frames during subsequent inspections?
    I just remove all the queen caps/cells at the time since I don't need another queen.

    • @beek
      @beek  4 місяці тому

      I could but most colonies have queen cups just in case, they need to replace a queen, so I just leave them.

      @@beek Thankfully you're not in an area where nearly all the feral bees have Africanized genetics. Here we avoid making queens unless there's an emergency and we *have* to, since available local drones yield defensive progeny.

    We just inspected a split today and found the new queen! There were no eggs or larvae yet, so I wasn't sure if she was mated or not yet, but I was so relieved to see her and know that the split worked!

    Thank you for your videos I am a new beekeeper and a new follower. You said ants do not hurt anything. My understanding was that they can still honey, bring disease, and disturb the bees?

    • @beek
      @beek  4 місяці тому

      Depends on where you live I guess. Ants aren't a problem, as I said, where I live, but yes some ants are a problem in certain places.

    David we are first year Bee keepers we installed a package 4/25. Long story short the original queen left. The hive raised a new queen. We saw her on 5/15. Being a young package I was happy to see you checked on day 8. Tomorrow is day 8 and it appears it is not too early at least to observe the hive and Queen. We will check tomorrow and hope our Queen looks half as good as yours.

      🤣 I've never tried Chartreuse as a drink and I wonder how many people know that it's a greenish, yellow drink and eventually the color and drink became synonymous. 👍

    Hi David.. I like that simple hive inspection., We been following so closely the progress and has been phenomenal.. Now the next question? Will you spectate for that colony to produce honey this year and what quality how many gallons you think? 🤔 😂 farewell to everyone from NYC 🇩🇴🗽🇺🇸🐝

      I doubt it. Our winters are hard but I may see if they can expand and fill 2 supers. Still have two solid months of nectar flow tonight come.

    The mated one is the one smoking a cigarette! LOLOLOL I did a cutout a week ago but did not see the queen. One week later I pulled a frame I added to the hive of drawn comb and found eggs all over it. So being only a week later I have to have gotten the original queen and she is healthy and doing well !!!

    Do you worry about doing a split and the hive having too many empty frames or do you checker board the frames? I noticed the drawn frames were only on one side. Do you worry about it being too big of a space I guess is what I'm asking.
