Just wondering why you don't remove queen caps... Doesn’t it take you a tiny bit more time and attention when you see those on frames during subsequent inspections? I just remove all the queen caps/cells at the time since I don't need another queen.
@@beek Thankfully you're not in an area where nearly all the feral bees have Africanized genetics. Here we avoid making queens unless there's an emergency and we *have* to, since available local drones yield defensive progeny.
We just inspected a split today and found the new queen! There were no eggs or larvae yet, so I wasn't sure if she was mated or not yet, but I was so relieved to see her and know that the split worked!
Thank you for your videos I am a new beekeeper and a new follower. You said ants do not hurt anything. My understanding was that they can still honey, bring disease, and disturb the bees?
David we are first year Bee keepers we installed a package 4/25. Long story short the original queen left. The hive raised a new queen. We saw her on 5/15. Being a young package I was happy to see you checked on day 8. Tomorrow is day 8 and it appears it is not too early at least to observe the hive and Queen. We will check tomorrow and hope our Queen looks half as good as yours.
🤣 I've never tried Chartreuse as a drink and I wonder how many people know that it's a greenish, yellow drink and eventually the color and drink became synonymous. 👍
Hi David.. I like that simple hive inspection., We been following so closely the progress and has been phenomenal.. Now the next question? Will you spectate for that colony to produce honey this year and what quality how many gallons you think? 🤔 😂 farewell to everyone from NYC 🇩🇴🗽🇺🇸🐝
David do you use an inner cover under your plastic hive top?? Just wondering I just got one to try out see how the bees like it ... thanks David enjoy the content 👍
The mated one is the one smoking a cigarette! LOLOLOL I did a cutout a week ago but did not see the queen. One week later I pulled a frame I added to the hive of drawn comb and found eggs all over it. So being only a week later I have to have gotten the original queen and she is healthy and doing well !!!
Do you worry about doing a split and the hive having too many empty frames or do you checker board the frames? I noticed the drawn frames were only on one side. Do you worry about it being too big of a space I guess is what I'm asking.
Can't hardly see in the shade
Filming bees in the bright sun is tough. A cloud goes over and everything is dark. 😔

I could but most colonies have queen cups just in case, they need to replace a queen, so I just leave them.

I like this feeder board. 👍
Big chest.but it takes a good eye to spot the difference.

Depends on where you live I guess. Ants aren't a problem, as I said, where I live, but yes some ants are a problem in certain places.
Excited to have one of your queens! Can’t wait to see what her colony will be like 🙌

Thanks David for all your content! I can’t get enough!!
Glad you like them!
Hard to miss that chartreuse dot! Makes me feel like I'm steelhead fishing again.

@@beek I always consider chartreuse as a bright green color, like on a fishing lure. Didn't know it was a drink LOL.
I've noticed you keep your nucs on the ground and your hives in the air. Why is that?
enjoying boysenberries now all my honeybee friends pollinated ! 🐝🐝🐝
Boysenberries were created by a man named Boysen who crossed black berries, raspberries and loganberries, in the early 1920s.

I doubt it. Our winters are hard but I may see if they can expand and fill 2 supers. Still have two solid months of nectar flow tonight come.
Great video 😊Thanks for sharing 👍 when are you going to sell a few queens 😊😊😊😊
Not sure yet
David, good inspection video. 85 degrees here in ORANGEVILLE, bees are flying everywhere.
91 here today. It was too windy for bees to fly the last few days.
Orangeville Pa? That was my favorite place to live for a time.
I could have had an opportunity to catch a swarm the other day but it was a missed opportunity
Yea, I’ve passed up a few.

Na, I do no use inner covers on any hives.
You mention it is a great breed of bees, what kind are they?
I've always raised my own queens from strong hives that I like.
Wow. Beautiful queen. What breed David?
Dave, what race of bees are you raising in this video?
These are from my own successful hives. I pick the best hive that made it through winter, gentle, low mites, lots of honey then raise queens from her.
That is a real beauty queen.. What kind of strain is that queen., under what will fit?

@@beek what have to be done to get a queen or cell from her..? Or that generic.. when they come available let me know.. please
What a beautiful queen! Is this hive light on nectar/pollen/resources?
No so much especially for a split and still in May for Illinois.
What type of feeder board ?? Where did u purchase it ! Thanks
I created/invented this feeder board and we sell a ton of them. Here's the link: www.honeybeesonline.com/10f-burns-bees-feeding-system-w-lids/

Nope, it will be fine, as it will be filled fast.
The handheld camera going on... is that new? I like it.
Yes, I know have new member on the team, Pat, helping me film in the yard. Thanks

Beautiful queen
Things are looking good !
Thank you kindly
So informative!
Glad you think so!
