I have a heavy Dartington crystal cut bowl that has been in every room and on every flat surface. It didn't fit anywhere so I decided to donate it but then had a lightbulb moment. It now serves as my cat's very fancy drinking water bowl!
I have interpreted what you are saying about decluttering and unwanted advice as "respect boundaries." :) Unfortunately, I do know the other side to this coin. My Mom passed away at the end of April, and she was a hoarder. I cannot describe to you how difficult the hoarding has made everything after losing her, especially since I live over 2,000 miles away. By hoarding, I mean rooms you couldn't enter, huge piles of "stuff." We still have 2 storage lockers of who-knows-what to deal with. And sadly, she was depressed and anxious most of her life, but would never admit that the hoarding made her life so much more difficult. So - everything in balance, right?! :)
Sophia, I liked what you said about each persons decluttering is different from anothers. Stop criticizing someone for THEIR stuff & style!! Love what you have! Enjoy your life! Don't be afraid to let go. Just be happy.😊 Thank you for your wise words!!!
Love visiting you in your home. I always really like your music selection for your videos. Sophia, All those videos where people are minimalists and have no furniture in their homes and want us to throw out every thing reminds me of the stories of the great depression that my MaMa used to tell me about. MaMa survived because they lived in the hills of New Mexico on the out skirts of Santa fe and Madrid. My Grand mother was an herbalist Dr. and midwife and made beer. This is how they survived. Off the land and exchanging medical services for a goat, milk, a chicken and so on. I've been poor and had nothing but now we are in a much better place. I'm with you Sophia, I love my stuff. So many memories. Some things are not replaceable too. So just shut out the voices and do what makes your heart sing. Your my favorite vlogger
My mom feels the same. Went through 2 wars, had to leave her country on a refugee boat with nothing but a suitcase and a baby. She lives her stuff and I do too.
I agree, I think people need to keep their homes the way they want it. I stopped watching home improvement shows because when they where finished with the houses they looked all the same. Grey and white. I’m a senior and I have gotten rid of a lot of my stuff so that I don’t have to try and take care of it. Less stuff for me means it’s a lot easier to clean my house. I can get what I need out of my cabinets. They are not full of stuff. My stress level has gone way down.
My Mom unexpectedly passed a little more than 2 years ago. I had 24 hours to move her belongings from her senior apartment. Everything ended up in my oversized single garage; from the very front door to the very back wall and from the floor to the ceiling. She used to tell me to just throw it all away. However, it wasn't that easy; in fact it was extremely difficult to sort through her personal items. Everything I picked up made me cry because it immediately brought back a memory and I was filled with guilt when I even thought about parting with it. It took me almost 2 years to finish. I sworn I wouldn't put my children through that kind of process. I'm not a minimalist, but I do know there is a lot of stuff that I do not need or want. I want to do what I can to part with these things so my children do not have to put their lives on hold to deal with something I didn't want to do myself.
I totally understand what you say. My mom has passed and I have closets and garage filled with wonderful memories of her. I'm just getting ready and have started to declutter the things that were her's. I miss her so much but I have fond memories of her.
Even though I'm not a maximalist, I think minimalism can be taken to extremes. In fits of desperate decluttering, I have gotten rid of items I regretted later so many times, and now I am more cautious.
It’s so interesting how we all are different from eachother, and so similar at the same time. I think we all want to live a good life, have a home we enjoy and food in our bellies. Yet how we accomplish this is widely different. For me, I loved the death-cleaning thinking. It has helped me think about what I want to focus on (telling our story with a few important photos) for our kids. More than anything I would have loved to have that from my grandparents and earlier generations.
You hit the nail on the head regarding “stuff”….you keep it if you love/use it and can find it a home. My decluttering got easier when I looked at it and asked “what do I really want to keep?” Rather than what shall I declutter. ☺️👍💕
I so agree with you Sophia. I never wanted my mom to do without something she wanted just because I would have to get rid of her stuff after she passed away. I wanted her to enjoy her life and her stuff. I look at it this way, our kids are, most likely, going to inherit the house and money so it is OK if they have to do a little work getting rid of our stuff that they don’t want. Haha
I just started the jar decluttering method and it’s working for me. I’ve had 0 motivation and it helps me to do at least one thing every day. Thanks Sophia👍
I loved everything you said! It’s all about perspective. Some people think my house is cluttered and others think it looks nice and not cluttered ( meaning less cluttered than their own home) For me it’s just right in the middle! Ok week there are a few areas that need attention but I can’t spend 24/7 cleaning and decluttering! I have a life to live, bikes rides to take, spending time with family, spending time outside in the sunshine!! To be honest if it weren’t for UA-cam I would not know that others have such seriously uncluttered homes. I actually have less than most people in my own personal life yet people think I have too much? 💜👍💜 That being said I do not think you should keep stuff just to eventually pass it down to family, if it does not serve you get rid of it. If you love it keep it! 💜 Don’t keep it because you think someone else you know will love it eventually. 💜 Don’t get me wrong my son will have plenty to have to go through when we go, but I am working on having at least less. I am dreading going through my parents stuff honestly though. 🥴
That makes so much sense about living your life how you want instead of worrying 30 years down the road when our kids can call some donation center to come with a truck and load it up!😊😊😊
Yes! Smile on face when I see your videos pop up! 💕 You are honest. You are so on point. I’m still pouring stuff I don’t use or love. I had to empty my moms house. Sucked. I have been giving stuff I don’t use or need. Kids grown and settling in their own houses with some awesome grand babies 💕 when son had first kid passed on his baby stuff. Baby book, blankets, and such. No point me just keeping in a hope chest. Let him enjoy before it gets ruined. Some stuff I’m sure people laugh at me for keeping. My grandmas Easter Bunnyville. Not worth anything but I smile every time I walk by China hutch and see it. Found memories.
Right on! We are quick, also, to judge ourselves by others' yardsticks. Live with the things you love. Children have been responsible for their parents' estates, however meager, for thousands of years. Try not to live under the gloomy, depressing cloud of "what if". I, too, like my stuff and have requested of my kids that they allow my body to at least cool off before they call the junk removal specialists, LOL!
You know I have always had the same mentality about keeping things that I love but I am beginning to realize that I love a lot of things. I’m tired of cleaning and constantly reorganizing all the things. I want to spend the second half of my life enjoying myself I want to quilt, write, bake and sip tea. I will never be a true minimalist but I want a bit less.Am I the only one??Is this a mid-life menopausal crisis😂😂I’m tired of spending my weekends playing catch up.
Great video! I like when projects take only a short time to complete, yet we put them off sooo long! 😂 I got your mug (the cleaning one) in the mail…love it! Now I need one that says “live your life!” 💜
I like decluttering every six months .....some stuff i get rid of n some stuff i put away.....i like less stuff it makes my life simple but each to their own......i think your home looks beautiful inside n out n if u love your house the way it is so be it......it's your home n no one else should tell u what to keep in it....love ya
Part of decluttering may not mean getting rid of anything but re-staging items you love throughout your home to give your eyes a fresh landscape to enjoy. So you can enjoy all the things you love!!
IDK I have a few neighbors that are hoarders they 3 garages full of stuff that's one . Then I have one who has been sighted by the city to clean up so many times . He has finally got ride of 2 junk cars .
I agree with you about what decluttering is. I have a few items that are of sentimental value that have no use whatsoever, but they remind me of loved ones and bring good feelings to me. Frankly, I have read Marie Kondo's book, and I got anxiety reading it.
Well said! My daughter wants me to stop collecting things he is worried about what is she going to do with it all! I say take what you want call an auctioneer, I am not stopping!
Kudos Sophia! Good talk 👍 Now that you mention there is this one wood vase I have and keep moving it from place to place. I guess it’s going, I’m not loving it! . That being said I have stuff that I am loving that I do change around change placement from time to time instead of buying new stuff. 💜
I am minimalistic in decor that sits out (for example I keep nothing on the mantel unless it is a Holiday) so when people ask me if they should keep this or that I always tell them I wouldn’t if it was me but I’m VERY minimalistic so they need to make their own decision.
Hi Sophia, thank you for sharing another declutter video. I agree with everything you were saying regarding living your life, not someone else’s. It is sad, yes, that we have become such a judgemental society. I think platforms like Pinterest and UA-cam have a lot to blame for that. The picture perfect homes imply that these are the standards by which we should be living. The problem is that we are not all alike!! I, like you, love old things which don’t suit new, modern homes. And, although people mean well, judging and pressuring others is not the way to help. I suffer from bad depression and anxiety and, although I could use some help to get my house in order, I won’t ask for it, for fear of being judged. I immediately click the like button when I see a new video of yours because I know I am going to enjoy it before I have even see it. You are such an inspiration so thank you for being you, Sophia. Take care and stay safe and well. With love and best wishes from Di (from Down Under) 😘💕🇦🇺
Great show.....I just got to my food pantry today. I am one session behind you. However, Sophia, for some reason the time and effort you put into going into such detail means the world to me as an insentive to get the decluttering done. Keep up the good work. Hugs
Yes, Sophia I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your ideas, your life, watching your boys grow and mature, and for sharing your garden, and great the conversations. You are loved dearly Sis. 👏🏾👏🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️!!
all this people worried about YOUR stuff like if it’s theirs 🙄 and worried about what YOUR kids are gonna do with everything, people please stop !! there’s something call state sales and people love going to them ,her kids can keep what they like and sell the rest and make some money 😉
Yey on the talk on ”everyone should declutter what THEY want to declutter!” Not trends, not Instagram Photoshop or other people rules,,, And I personally AM trying to be a minimalist, trying to live with a more minimal mindset in regerads to buying, decor, the things I own (in most areas) etc! But also minimal is totalyta different for everyone ”HAVING WHAT YOU NEED AND LOVE!!” I think the only general rule to when I would say someone NEEDS to declutter, is when they feel like they can never achieve order, or Keep a relatively tidy home. Or when the stuff affects their mental or physical health. But otherwise, our styles and likes and hobbies differ sooo much! Like ”stuff” is your hobby, in a way, stationery and Books are mine, while someone might fit 3 Huge hobbies onto their iPad, so they are ”invisible”!!! That does not mean that our hobbies are better or less worthy than any other!!
Hi Sophia. I was with you for DOC Round 1. Yay for Round 2. Wonder what items will Go this time?! I find I love things for a season, then pass them on.
Wise words regarding decluttering. I know five years ago I went a little OTT but the concept has worked for me once I appreciated my interpretation may differs from others. Tfs & take care 🌺
My kids know what are sentimental to me. I told them to keep certain family items to pass down to family. I said everything thing else, keep what you want and get rid of the rest.
@@plynn136 I don’t feel like it is. The things I want them to keep are mainly pictures and family jewelry. I’m not rich or well off so all I really have are personal items to leave them. They already know that I have picked out certain items to leave to each of them. I don’t expect them to keep any of my crafty stuff, books clothes, etc unless they choose to.
Totally agree with what you said in the beginning! Like you told me in a reply to a comment awhile ago, "Be who you are, adjust in the end". Wise words! :)
I love your house and decorations. I wouldn't worry what other people think. l agree we should be happy. It's not like you can't get around in your house. I like stuff just like you do. There is alot of pretty things. I just get rid of old things when I get tired of it and buy new if I like it.
My annoyance right now is the smart meter thing in my kitchen and living room. It doesn’t go with what I have on that particular shelf and makes it look untidy. My husband told me off for hiding them behind the ornament as it was preventing it from working properly! Eurggggh.
I like my stuff too and I like to change with the season. I seem to hurriedly put last seasons away in the wrong place just to get it out of the way. This is how I accumulate a mess of unrelated items that later have to be sorted and put away. So tedious.
You know they say we come from people who were hunters and gatherers. The men hunted and the women gathered things. LOL I’m constantly get rid of things and getting things. I guess it will stop when I go to heaven .😍
Minimalism no but i am quite enjoying having a container and if it is too full consider getting rid of items. Eg annoying cupboard full of crockery doors did not close. I had inherited dinner services so i got rid of some .now when i have guests i actualky can open up and use the nice stuff .giving me pleasure
I was interested to see that all your Amazon packages came in plastic mailers. Here in U.K. they use cardboard and paper. I think the US have some catching up to do regarding recycling and reducing single use plastic.
That's a fabulous handbag you found! I think you're doing great keeping the amount of clutter down, especially with your curb picking bringing things into the house. (I'm being sincere, so don't read this in a snooty voice.) I like stuff, too. You've made so much progress from your early videos, it gives me hope for myself.
Yes! I hate hearing that we “should” declutter so our children don’t have to deal with it after we die. Too bad. I’m using this now. My kid can use some of her inheritance to hire a skiff and someone to load it. It’s a time honored tradition! I’m decluttering the stuff we don’t want or need because we had a bad habit of never getting rid of this stuff and I’m tired of dusting it.
Hello Sophia I just wondered and am interested to know if all of the decluttering you have done, particularly with the 30 bags in 30 days series, was in part done out of a pressure you felt to let go of stuff? The reason I ask is you seem so much happier about your position on decluttering now and having the stuff you want in your home. I’ve really picked up on this in the last year. Watched you for years and love your videos. Thank you.
I have two huge Christmas bins in my dining room. Covid got our entire family and my daughter died. None of us are physically or emotionally ready to jump into anything.
I think we need to have a life not thinking so much about cleaning, dusting, organizing, donating, re arranging our stuff. We have lots of things to do in our lives and do feel better by creating more me time for ourselves and loved ones. This do not come by having stuff that is creating an environment of hard control. So emotional and energy level evaluations are good tricks for our awareness.
My husbands mother has at least 3 storage units filled with "stuff" and as far as I'm concerned her adult children(including my husband) being left to deal with all that mess is not right. That is my personal opinion. I myself/We are more on the fence of minimal/simple living only keeping what we love and enjoy! Nothing more nothing less! Our adult children are the same way. They request items as they want or need them, I am not leaving anything behind to burden them aside from what they personally ask me for long before I am gone. Out of respect to our adult children we owe it to them to ask them what items they may want after we are gone. We should deal with our own "stuff" before we are gone! America is one of the most wasteful places in the world from the facts and evidence we are the only country with countless landfills full of "stuff" that nobody wanted! Yes thats the world we live in! Unfortunately...thanks for sharing your opinion on decluttering! Thanks for sharing as always! 👍🏽🥴💐
@@helenmak5663 thanks. I think some parents don't realize just how hard it is for adult children to go thru and discard of their parents possessions, it IS a burden and it is not right. Enjoy your life while you are here I agree wholeheartedly but do NOT leave YOUR possessions to your children. Good day to you! ☺️
I've never understood that whole "minimalist" crap. Seemed like most people just did it because it was popular, not because they really wanted to get rid of things. Some videos were actually kind of cringy; letting go of things you could clearly tell they didn't want to part with. I don't do trends anyway. I like what I like and if I see something I like, I'll buy it!! Especially real wood furniture on Facebook marketplace! Lol! I'm not saying I'm a hoarder at all, because clutter kind of drives me crazy, but I do like things! Things that were my Mom's and/or Dad's for example (lost my parents so I tend to have more sentimentality for some of their things I have). So yes, I definitely agree with getting stuff you love, but don't go overboard for sure. Chasing stuff around your house because you don't love it it pointless.
Hi Sophia! Great mantra! Listen to “Live Your Life” by Nick Cordero. He is the late husband of Amanda Kloots. He lost his life due to COVID at the age of 42. The song really inspires me to LIVE MY LIFE! 🥰
I shudder every time you say street find. There are a zillion beautiful things out there. You can’t have them all. STAY OFF THE STREET. You originally did it to find things to sell and bring income into the house. Now you just keep the stuff. You were happy before you found an item. Sell it or leave it where you found it
I have a heavy Dartington crystal cut bowl that has been in every room and on every flat surface. It didn't fit anywhere so I decided to donate it but then had a lightbulb moment. It now serves as my cat's very fancy drinking water bowl!

Hi Nancy! I know right? I totally agree with everything she said. 💜
I love how comfortable the dogs look on the chairs. Our pets have the life.
I was depressed and had anxiety back in 2016/ first part of 2017. With your help, Sophia, I found my perfect amount of stuff. Thank you xoxo

Ok confession time. While you were sorting out your basket, I was dancing to the music. 🤣
💃
Decluttering is getting things out of your house permanently, anything else is storing things. Only you can decide what has to go though.
Hallelujah ! An honest approach on decluttering! Thank you Sophia!!
Agree with everything you said. to each their own,.as far as their homes. Great decluttering on basket and dining room..

That small round brown tray is great for corralling remote controls etc on a coffee table!!! I’m sure it will go fast!
LOVE, LOVE the peppy music you had going at about 5:30!!! Id like to have that playing while I speed clean! Makes ya wanna move!
all this people worried about YOUR stuff like if it’s theirs 🙄 and worried about what YOUR kids are gonna do with everything, people please stop !! there’s something call state sales and people love going to them ,her kids can keep what they like and sell the rest and make some money 😉
LOOKS MUCH BETTER... I DID GET MY MUG IN THE MAIL,I LOVE IT!
That's so nice of you,,,,,,, hello 👋 how are you doing I hope you are having a wonderful day, I really appreciate your comment.
Wise words regarding decluttering.
I know five years ago I went a little OTT but the concept has worked for me once I appreciated my interpretation may differs from others.
Tfs & take care 🌺
As someone who loves her,STUFF, I agree with you. If things are making you stressed, then by all means clean out but I kind of like my clutter. TFS.
My kids know what are sentimental to me. I told them to keep certain family items to pass down to family. I said everything thing else, keep what you want and get rid of the rest.
Isn't that still a burden to them?
@@plynn136 I don’t feel like it is. The things I want them to keep are mainly pictures and family jewelry. I’m not rich or well off so all I really have are personal items to leave them. They already know that I have picked out certain items to leave to each of them. I don’t expect them to keep any of my crafty stuff, books clothes, etc unless they choose to.
Totally agree with what you said in the beginning! Like you told me in a reply to a comment awhile ago, "Be who you are, adjust in the end". Wise words! :)
YOUR SKIN LOOKS AMAZING!
Great editing job Scott👍
Trust me. You ll know when he edits. That was not it.
Loved your video ❤
I thought I needed to be a minimalist but I like my stuff too.
I love your house and decorations. I wouldn't worry what other people think. l agree we should be happy. It's not like you can't get around in your house. I like stuff just like you do. There is alot of pretty things. I just get rid of old things when I get tired of it and buy new if I like it.
Wow this purse is so beautiful!
My annoyance right now is the smart meter thing in my kitchen and living room. It doesn’t go with what I have on that particular shelf and makes it look untidy. My husband told me off for hiding them behind the ornament as it was preventing it from working properly! Eurggggh.
That's so nice of you,,,,,,, hello 👋 how are you doing I hope you are having a wonderful day, I really appreciate your comment.
That handbag, OMG, I covet it 😂
I agree!
My goodness you look soooo good in your top. Hair fab, ... My house is so full of stuff!!!!. I don't do declutter ING. To busy hanging on to stuff..💕👍
I like my stuff too and I like to change with the season. I seem to hurriedly put last seasons away in the wrong place just to get it out of the way. This is how I accumulate a mess of unrelated items that later have to be sorted and put away. So tedious.
Decluttering seems to never end------yuck!! You did a good job, at this time my declutter job is getting my son's family moved out.
You know they say we come from people who were hunters and gatherers. The men hunted and the women gathered things. LOL I’m constantly get rid of things and getting things. I guess it will stop when I go to heaven .😍
And heaven will be a goodwill outlet in an upscale area with a cart that is never full.
Sophia you are such a classy. Beautifil lady ... I love watching you. 💕 All the best my fried
So happy to be with you today Sophia
Minimalism no but i am quite enjoying having a container and if it is too full consider getting rid of items. Eg annoying cupboard full of crockery doors did not close. I had inherited dinner services so i got rid of some .now when i have guests i actualky can open up and use the nice stuff .giving me pleasure
If you want to keep the small tray, it can go on the console bottom shelf.
I would be rocking that crocodile purse every day!
VERY WELL SAID!!!!!
Love my hoody from your merch
Love this doc but why is one Video privat
Did Sophia make a video on her weight loss journey
I de clutterd Facebook. Happier.
Thank you.
Mostly my realizing none of the stuff made sense.
I have two huge Christmas bins in my dining room. Covid got our entire family and my daughter died. None of us are physically or emotionally ready to jump into anything.
Sorry for your loss, may your daughter rest in peace🙏
So sorry for your loss Betty.
Amen!!👏
DOC was 2020 not 2 yrs ago.
Pretty top,and your eyebrows and skin look 🤩
Totally agree from the first word to the last.
👍🏼
That's so nice of you,,,,,,, hello 👋 how are you doing I hope you are having a wonderful day,
I've never understood that whole "minimalist" crap.
Agreed. I'm waiting for "maximalism" to come back.
Yes!
Loved u r long hair... u look lot pretty with long hair :-)
💜
Those sounds like good Facebook groups to depart from.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
👏
you can't save everthing. lol and you do you.

Hi Sophia! Great mantra!
Listen to “Live Your Life” by Nick Cordero.
He is the late husband of Amanda Kloots. He lost his life due to COVID at the age of 42.
The song really inspires me to LIVE MY LIFE! 🥰
Oh sorry for that, hello 👋 how are you doing I hope you are having a wonderful day, I really appreciate your comment.
I shudder every time you say street find. There are a zillion beautiful things out there. You can’t have them all. STAY OFF THE STREET. You originally did it to find things to sell and bring income into the house. Now you just keep the stuff. You were happy before you found an item. Sell it or leave it where you found it
Ouch, are you her mom?
I shuddered reading your unsolicited, nasty comment!
