To me this verse gave me comfort in knowing the purpose in God’s plan for allowing troubles, sufferings and hardships in my life. We can be victorious, while Jesus becomes exalted. As long as we have Jesus we’re winners no matter what happens!
Yes! Praise the Lord! Jesus defeated the devil on Calvary, and made a show of them openly! Amen, Brother Bagwell! I want to be a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God!
I've been saved since June 10th, 1984. So around 40 years ago, I was really going through something, and the adversary of my soul was tormenting me constantly.... the more I tried to pray, the more the enemy tormented me. All I could do was that my prayers seemed like they were bouncing off the walls. Then something happened... the Lord spoke to me. I wasn't brought up in church. My parents never took me to church except once a year to a family reunion at a church in North GA. This is what the Lord spoke to me... He said, "Do you remember Job?" Like I said, I knew very little about God and His word, but I knew it was God speaking to me... so I said no, sir, I don't remember Job... then God said, "Do you know why I allowed these things to happen to Job... again, no. God said because I had confidence in Job just like I have in you... praise God. That's all it took for true, Victory!
Watched and enjoyed. Great class! We sure don’t enjoy sufferings and trial but I pray the Lord will help us to go through them with the dignity and grace of a child of God, and to God be the glory! Amen, Bro. Mike.
Thank you for this lesson on suffering and remaining strong and faithful under the load. I like the thought of being a trophy unto God although I don’t feel worthy.
Preacher! What a Great message God blessed me to hear from your lips! Thank you Greatly! I needed to hear that! One of my most needed favorites! God Bless you!
Amen, Preacher. This was a much needed reminder for me in my life. I have been in a trial for over a year now and I will confess, I see no end in sight. But may The Lord's will be done in it and in my life... Thank you Preacher for the truth and the encouragement of The Word of God.... Love you Preacher
Great study, Dr. Bagwell! Verse 5 is a hard verse to understand and explain. In the previous verse, Paul is bragging on the church in Thessalonica. He is encouraging and uplifting them because of their patience and faith in all of their persecutions and tribulations. Verse 5 is set under the umbrella of difficulties and tribulations that we as believers are going to experience as we live for the Lord. Paul is saying in verse 5 that all the persecutions they are going thru are a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God. He is saying it is a road sign or a public, visible sign of the righteous judgment of God. God says these persecutions are appropriate in the eyes of God. God never wastes trials and difficulties that come our way. "Suffer" ties into the persecutions that we have in the previous verse. God uses heartaches to shape us up and help us grow. It keeps us humble, keeps us praying and keeps us studying the Word of God. If we handle the hardships correctly, we will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God. God allows these things to happen, and He works on us first, but then in verse 6 He will deal with those who did persecute us next. God can stop any trial but He allows them to come to strengthen us. God gave us a hunger for His Book so that He could put us on display to a lost and dying world. See Job 1:8. God believed Job's faith was strong enough that those trials and tribulations would not waver his love of the Lord and his worship of Him. He lost everything but he still worshipped God. See Eph. 2:5-7. God has already placed us positionally with Him in heaven. God will show the exceeding riches of His grace and His kindness towards us through Jesus Christ. God will hold us for all eternity as trophies of grace. See Col. 1:13-15. After our sins were nailed to the cross, He spoiled principalities and powers. He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them. God defeated the devil on the cross of Calvary and lifted him up making a show of him openly. Suffering is out of our hands. Every problem God has allowed to come our way has been righteous. God has never done wrong. See Rev. 16:7 & 19. See Psalm 19:9. When God child trains us, when He chastens us, He is true and righteous, He has never done anything wrong. See Gen. 18:25. God always does right. God knows exactly how much we can bear. He will never put on us more than we can bear. If you are a 3rd grade Christian, He will not put you through a 6th grade test (1 Cor. 10:13). There is a university of trials and sufferings that every Christian must enter and pass. A pound of suffering will yield you a ton of glory over there. See 1 Cor. 3:11-13. At the judgment seat of Christ, the Lord will examine how we made it through the trials set before us. It will be wood, hay & stubble or gold, silver and precious stones. See Romans 14:10, 2 Cor. 5:10 as well. "May be counted worthy"/καταξιόω/kataxioō/suit or fit. See 2 Peter 1:11. We want to be counted worthy of the kingdom of God. You will not go to heaven by the skin of your teeth, you will have an abundant entrance based on how you have handled the trials and difficulties of this life. "Suffer"/πάσχω/paschō/pain, agony and bloodshed leading to death. This is used in relation to the Passover lamb. Suffering is a part of growth. See James 1. The trying of your faith brings patience. Patience begins with handling suffering. See Romans 5. Suffering is involved in our growth and development. See Act 9:16. God said that Paul would suffer for His sake. See John 15:18 & Job 23:10. When God has put us through the fire and the olive press, we shall come forth as gold. See Phil. 1:29. It is given on behalf of Christ not only to believe on Him, but to suffer for His sake. See 1 Peter 4:12. We should not think it strange when we have fiery trials. There are two views of suffering: Along with the heartaches comes the reward and the blessing. If we have the pain, we will have the gain. Great study, Dr. Bagwell! Thank you so much! I really needed this study today. Please be praying for me in the ministry. Love you and Sis. Debbie very much!
You reminded me if 1st Peter 1 Peter 4: 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy ar e ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
