- Yeeeeoowza, that hurt! Thanks a ton for the Triple T torture tour Ted, I really enjoyed the unique mix of cardio and tech. Once the pollen dies down we should definitely get that weekly suffer lined up. ;) Hope you all enjoy watching Ted crack me like Bicycle Works cracked me growing up. Enjoy!

190+ BPM for a sustained period would have me begging for mercy. That was intense.
On the climb it was 200+
What an impressive display of Russo's power, at 60 years old...WOW! Also an informative demonstration of the relationship between wattage and heart rate. Thanks for showing that data.
i once rode with legend Ned Overend... it was a lovely two mile warm up, we chit chatted about the new FSR and some other Specialized R&D components he was testing. He disappeared in about 10 pedal strokes on the first hill climb, never saw him again.
I’d say on a proper xc bike and you’re right there with him! Also, the “oh no, not that way!” cracked me up. Lol.
I may have burned all of my matches once the road was in sight. 🙈
Doh! I felt that one. Lol. 😩
When that climb started at 8:15......oof. Thanks for continued great content Dale. That "music" playing in your head would not have been heard by me over the sound of my heartbeat in my ears..
Great riding. Your guide clearly had the advantage knowing the trail and riding a lighter bike. You were right there. 💪
Lawdy, that's brutal! Amazing video, and big props for that absolutely mammoth effort you put out, wow!
That was intense! And super impressive!
that boss level music had me 🤣
It's cool to see trails that are close to the upper end of my skill range. That looks like an awesome trail.
Super fun, if you have the cardio! 😅
You are just all around rider Dale! Thanks for putting out your videos on UA-cam!
He really put you through your paces. All the heavy breathing sounded like a Dangerous Dave video. :)
⚰️😂
Ted's a monster but he built a beauty trail!
I can here your heart saying to your brain.."Hey! What the Hell are you doing !??? !!! lol
Never thought I’d see you crack Dale. It was actually stressful to me to hear you breathing so hard cause I’m not used to it. Props to Ted!
Two things: 1) Ted calls himself an “old guy” on his Strava page - what does that translate to in revolutions around the Sun?; and 2) really love the story type content of late. Your channel is evolving into a great balance of all-out shredding, education and inspiration. Big thumbs up from this subscriber!
I think he’s around 60.
@@johndelosada5404 Wow, I’ve already been inspired by Dale to raise my game. If Ted’s 60+/- then I’ve gotta reconsider again what’s possible.
Ted turns 60 this year! #goals
Incredible, so i can run pretty good few more years. 👍
downhill/uphill in switch mode on such technical trails is a killing machine!
So good! ❤️
You are a machine too , what a trail and technic up hill stuff !!!!
One more thing... @ddangerousddave sitting back with a satisfied smile saying “take that Dale!” 😂
He was exceptionally cheerful today...
@@DaleStone 😂
I got out of breath just watching! good work!
Great watch. That was some sic riding 👍
So you are human! The man does tire out. Wild! Haha solid ride dude
That pro rider looks so fluid on any smooth sections of the trail..
I rode Ted's Torture Trail (Triple T) back in 2010? I'm still scarred to this day, never again lol
From my understanding this is a popular opinion, haha. 🙃
First I have to say it is perfect nature and trail, second your performance is powerfull and third i will follow jour channel bro - Nice EDIT :)
Nice job you guys did there!!
Obligatory gotta watch this one twice cause jeeeez that power output!
Alternative Title: Guy ignores heart attack for 15 minutes straight
"How To Induce Cardiac Arrest"
@@DaleStone tbh I feel like I hit 190bmp just walking upstairs 😂
I got exhausted just by watching this. I need to go and work on my cardio.
I just can't wrap my head around how can you make such good quality videos. I mean, i upload one and youtube makes it so compressed, barely any details are left. Sure, yours is still not like an original gopro footage, but still so nice and sharp, full of details. Wonderful, but i envy you :D
Lots of trial and error was involved, keep experimenting!
bruh that looks exhausting
That looked brutal.
"You did well Anakin....". 🤣
Sick ride !
Haha. Nice. Cue up Motley Crue. Kickstart My Heart.
Rides like this can be addicting. Something about pushing the limits of fitness. Cool to see how your body changes doing this trail once a week.
100% agreed!
Im exhausted just watching this. Yeesh.
He makes the trail look almost boring with how smooth and consistent he is. Nice job keeping up with him, but its more entertaining when you follow Dave haha
Different styles that both need showcasing!
Nice job Dale, this reminds me of Red Mtn.
I never thought of that, but you're totally right!
Great XC road. I woul love to have this near
Damn, bro. Respect
:-D LOL :-D Ok, first up, fantastic looking "XC" trail, second, me thinks you were wishing that you were on the Revolver this day and should maybe make plans to head back on it - 7lbs> weight difference should help on the climbs. Third weird to hear you huffing and puffing so hard, good job to keep up on that pig of a rig compared to the "XC" whippet. Expect to see your name on the start list of the next BC Bike Race Dale ;-)
The age old tradeoff of climbing efficiency and descending survivability. 🙃
@@DaleStone I think you'd do well enough considering that "old dude" is also on an "XC" rig compared to what most ride these days, probably something very similar to your Revolver.
U did very well 🙏🏽👏🏼👍
Old man's got some legs on him!
Warm-up at 800 watts and 188avg heart rate.... What a beast!
😵
@@DaleStone idek what my giant horse legs could output cause I don't have a power meter yet, but that's some serious energy sucking climbing for sure 😆
"yet" 😘
@@DaleStone you know it 🤪 eventually this mans is gonna be cranking his way up with more data, like a real nerd 😍
I need to go rest🤪😳🤣
Comparing you and Dave I always can hear him breathing heavy, but I couldn't hear in yours and I thought it had to do with camera or something else. Now, I know...well done for hanging in there, you definitely got very good cardio.
I bet the next day was a bit painful 😜
Took a few days to recover from this one, Ted's an animal!
HR and Powermeter !
If you ride this trail every day, you are going to be a climbing monster in no time :D
Oh man, I stumbled upon the channel about 3 weeks ago and I have to admit I'm impressed. And since you are such an experienced rider, I have a question.
Half a year ago I treated myself to a nice new bike and I'm actually quite happy with it, but it came with the Fox 36 performece with the Grip damper and now I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to the Grip 2. What do you think about this?
Or should I convert to xtr religion first? ;D
By the way, love the data.
My opinion there is that it's probably worth putting the money required for the upgrade towards regular maintenance instead. Freshly serviced suspension will always feel the nicest. 🙂
Can't go wrong with XTR though...
Brutal
I would have been dusted within 2 minutes...if that haha.
What the heck Ted lol
Was planning to go ride my bike This afternoon. Not sure Im still up to it, This vid reminded Me how out of shape i am and how much i will suffer 😂
That's the motivation you need!! Hahaha.
You should return for a lap on your XC rig, you know, for research.
*research intensifies*
Hey Dale. Really enjoying your videos lately, esp. the hyper tech backcountry stuff. How do you keep breathing sounds to a minimum with your helmet mount - is your camera chin-mounted or under-visor? You're obviously busting your tail here, and in some of your other vids that are a mix of up/down. My chin mounted GoPro footage sounds like mating season in bear country, even with a wind foam thing.
Thanks Andy! I chin mount my camera. That's a phenomenal description hahaha. Truthfully there is no trick, but I'm not in my anaerobic zone when filming most things! Occasionally I am (Frank's KOM probably best example), but I never find that I'm struggling to get air in, more struggling to process it. 🙃
If it kills you how will mere mortals like me ever survive?
Great content. What program to you use to get that data, and be able to layer it on a video?
An overly complicated method I found using word, excel and notepad. 🙃
@@DaleStone That sounds almost as difficult as the lap was!!
What software did you use to place the power and HR data in the video? 190 is insane!!! I hurt at 160. I can't imagine what sustained 190 feels like.
No software, just a careful method of using excel, word and notepad. 😊
I'm imagining hikers or other bikers down the bottom see you rip past in a full face 🤣
Full face 4 lyfe! ❤️
Now that you know what to expect, do you reckon you'll clean it next time?
I will need a few more hard weeks to keep up for sure, cleaning it won't be an issue!
Can I ask, what are you using as a power meter on your sight?
Usually I use a 4iiii Podiiiium, single sided. Check out my bike check video for more detailed thoughts and opinions!
2 new trails at hydrocut that you gotta try!!
More like 5 by now! They've been killing it. 🤯
@@DaleStone There's also an official short lap TT
How is this with the trails in Canada are they just build or is this surface in privately owned?
That is a loooong and complicated topic that basically differs by individual trail!
Need an XC bike :D
How do you like it??
I love it. 😈
Question Dale - has the Range been discontinued? I do not see it on the Norco website.
That's beyond my pay grade. 🤷♂️
@@DaleStone Hmmmm. I see it as an E Bike. I do not see any "Enduro" option on the Norco website.
I would "Tap Out". Get the paddles...... Defib...
Question: how is Triple T from a technical perspective in comparison to easier blacks like Big Boy Time and Triple Crown? Those steep downhill switchbacks on Triple T look like they are probably more difficult than anything on the Burke trails I mentioned. The cardio challenge of Triple T has me interested - and I can “crack” all I want on the conditioning front - but I’m not sure my technical skills are quite there yet.
Some of the tight switchbacks (such as 2:30) are definitely double black Burke territory with the exposure present. Most of the trail is a tough blue/easy black with an obvious cardio component (especially getting to the trail, given the parking restrictions in Anmore). Everything is quite walkable so give it a go!
@@DaleStone your analysis matches what I perceived - the switchbacks will be hike a bike territory for me, but the rest looked mostly doable from a tech perspective. That said, I won’t be afraid to walk wherever else necessary. But I’d like to challenge myself physically with a trail like this just to see how it goes. Probably not well lol - but progression has to start somewhere!
You'll have to think carefully about you get there, as the "bear claw" (?) trail up from Buntzen has intermittent closures for powerline maintenance. Good luck haha.
@@DaleStone sounds good. I’ll research it a bit and perhaps target a ride on a warm
Summer weekend day where I can take my sweet time getting to the trailhead drop-in. Aside - your “haha” has me picturing you sitting back with a bemused smile as I probably mutter “wtf did I get myself into?” when I’m halfway into this pending “adventure”.
This must have been before you got the Revolver??
Cracked rim, so the Sight must do!
im thinking a revolver might be a good bike for this terrain
Your Norco Revolver could have been the better pick for this challange :D .
Agreed, though it would've been a touch hairy in spots! 😬
@@DaleStone Still it´s another great example on this channel of how good and capable modern XC bikes are (+ the rider skills ofc) 🤘 .
Totally agreed, the moves Ted pulled in the bonus clip I certainly would not have touched!
What's Ted riding? It's gotta be my bike holding me back from matching efforts like this... right? Right?
I'm convinced it's an e-bike, but it looks suspiciously like a normal Scott Spark. 👀
How old are you? That's pretty crazy heart rate
220 minus my age is not accurate haha. Could get it to 207 just a few years ago!
Kind of run you must be aware to your health. Stress or tired, you can break your heart.
I guess the other guy was clipped in all the time on a XC bike…
Why not take the Revolver?
Cracked rim. 😬
how
Why not the revolver ?
Cracked rim. 😬
@@DaleStone ahh what bike is he riding ? For what seems like a very pedally trail you were right on him! Good stuff
A Scott spark I believe!
Dale, sparks are 130mm on fork, 120mm on rear, and 28lb for the average range, 24,91lb for the best one. No comparison with your Sight.
Good ride!
His is definitely on the more XC end of 110-120! An absolute rocketship.
XC is not my idea of fun, because I have no stamina.
I find HR data on someone else almost meaningless. Everyone has different max HR's, so it's not a good indicator of effort. Mine's 180. Is your max 197? 210? 230? Hearing your breathing is the better indicator in this video.
True, a percentage would have more meaning for most people. 🙂
@@DaleStone Or heart rate zone.
That's boring, anaerobic, unchanging! 😉
