    The comment about how electric fans have a speed dial labelled off-high-medium-low reminds me that Technology Connections did an excellent video on this a few months ago. I had wondered about it myself. It is all to do with the peculiarities of shaded pole motors.

    I can't see any comments for it so:
    The capacitor and resistor between the micro and pot is an easy way to do a basic ADC..
    You toggle the IO pin's pull up/down resistors/internal logic and count how many cycles it takes for the pin to go high/low, this is the analog value.
    It's not super accurate, but for something like this, plenty good enough and you can use a cheaper micro.

    When I heard the pump, I had instant flashbacks to my brother's silk-screening shop. The atomizer gun reminds me of a spotting gun used to remove unwanted ink splats on silk screened garments. Using carbon-tetrachloride squirted through a very tiny nozzle, it put out a strong fine needle-like spray that was forceful enough to break up the ink. The unit wasn't rechargeable, which would have been helpful indeed, but I'm sure it would have been today. Being the early 1990s, rechargeable devices like we have today weren't as common.

    The diode after the regulator might be an alternative to a resistor or inductor.
    May 'good' supplies would rectify and smooth, then a small drop in voltage, followed by another capacitor., so it may be belt and braces against motor interference.

    I think the more interesting thing in this video is the label from the cleaner...
    Usually only food and drugs are labeled with ingredients, except for proprietary mixes.
    Here in the US most cleaners you can only tell the formula by smell, some say "ammonia free"(but that's one of the more distinct smells already), and there are many off-brand copies of each.
    The majority don't have any kind of labeling outside of branding and the warning saying to wash it off and call poison control.

      The data sheet for a 7805 regulator suggests 1 uf on the input and 0.1 uf on the output, but there is very wide latitude in what will work. As Clive points out, 100 nf, which is 0.1 uf, is very common as a bypass capacitor.
      The other way to think about likely values is to consider those 10K resistor / capacitor values as low pass filters (they are), and decide what frequency you want as a cutoff frequency. You can then calculate the capacitor size. For instance a 100 nf cap will have a corner frequency of 160 Hz, which might be a little higher than you want to filter motor cogging.
      A 1 uf cap would have a corner frequency of 16 Hz, which would be lower than necessary, so you might pick something like a 0.47 uF cap. But 1 uf might be cheaper than 0.47 uf, so you might instead pick the larger cap. A lot of this sort of engineering is to calculate the ideal part value, then value engineer by finding the cheapest part that is "close enough".

    Hellow, I bought my atomizer 1 month ago, and in one ocation I charge the atomizer with another charger, and more later I tried to charge with the original charger, but the problem is that when I disconnect the charger from the atomizer, this doesn't charge, I have to conmect to the stream to make function. ¿What can I do?

  • @serisman1042

    Wonder why they went with an external charging circuit? Seems like it would be more convenient and cheaper construction to just have a USB input on the gun itself and have that circuit board internal. The way it is now, what's to stop you from accidentally plugging something else (like a 'normal' 12v power supply) into the barrel plug, potentially overcharging the lithium cells?

    • @bigclivedotcom
      @bigclivedotcom  4 роки тому

      They probably switched from an external 12V charger to the USB one because it was much cheaper and divulged them of the liability associated with cheap mains powered chargers.

    Idea for a new youtube video Clive - no one has done a full comparison yet as far as i can see on youtube!
    I have never used an oscilloscope just getting into electronics and ready to go more in depth.
    Have seen the pocket oscilloscopes but would be nice to see a head to head of all 4 after seeing Diodegonewild youtube of the DSO188!
    DSO138 vs DSO150 vs DSO188 vs DSO068 would be interesting.

      I have a pocket scope here which I bought after seeing an enthusiastic paid review. It's extremely frustrating to use due to the menu system and ease of changing a wrong setting. It's notable that the person who did that review has never used it in one of their videos since.

    So my silly question is I have a set of low voltage fairy lights with a three AA timer pack. I have quite a few of these timer packs at my disposal and I'd hope to do a UV LED and glow resin project. Unfortunately much to my chagrin upon finally getting around to measure the voltage output to the leads of these timer battery packs I come to find that they are only putting out 0.020 volts at the lead wires for the OEM fairy lights. Long story short am I missing something or is there anyway that I might be able to continue with my intended project utilizing these packs or do I need to find a new avenue for powering my UV LEDs?

    • @drunkenmonkey1457
      @drunkenmonkey1457 4 роки тому

      20mV is 0V for most purposes, have you checked the timer, batteries and any connections?
      Maybe the lights are pulling down the voltage, or need to be connected if they're not already.
      Even if they're not suitable, then it could be pretty simple to put something together, I imagine you should be able to find timer boards somewhere, battery packs are widely available. A microcontroller and an RTC module would work for a timer, and you could program sequences into it, if you like that sort of thing.

    Maybe the diode has something to do with lowering the max analog voltage that can come from the pot. Only thing that is immediately obvious.

    Is it really 11th generation charging? and do the 800ml bottles have a net weight of 7kg as per the advert? and importantly does it really stop So2 and Pvc gas being created from water?as per the literature on ebay surely the blue LEDs will protect us, by a more complete disenfection! thank god it has built in battery so its not limited by distance.....All this for between 28 and 78 dollars....I can see better uses for this when the price drops after the pandemic... like touching up creasote on the garden fence panels....Thanks BigClive

    Are the two 0.33 ohm resisters in parallel limiting the current to the motor or just current sense?. I don’t see another path for the motor to source power other than through the 10k pull down resistor
