    I have a 1987 Toyota pickup 22r and recently had the carburetor replaced and right away I noticed that it wants to die on take off so I have to give it gas slowly and every once in a while it would start sputtering and a few times it would just shut off and start right up and be fine. Justt yesterday it kept sputtering and it shut off around 7 times so I just parked it, I sure hope I can get it running great again because I don't want to get rid of it, thanks.

    Mine doesn't start well, so this is great to see. Can you do a video with how the cruise control is supposed to be hooked up? I just bought an 84 Toyota Dolphin and feel lost. Mine is chewing through oil. Open to advice, have been searching hard on how to fix and hoping to avoid ring job or overhaul (140k miles so not crazy).

    Thank you for your video. I have a 1984 Toyota Pickup. The choke according to my mechanic is non-adjustable and recommended that I take it to a carburetor place to have it rebuilt. I have a lot of trouble starting the truck from a cold start. I saw where you mention that the stock carb choke is riveted (3 rivets). Is that why it is non adjustable? Would it be feasible for me to buy the OEM choke that you reference in the Amazon URL above and relace the existing choke as long as I drill out the rivets and replace with screws? Would you use some kind of self tapping screws or would you use a tap to make threads for a machine screw?

      Might give it a little rev when turning the key off. This leaves a bit of gas in the carb. Then 2 slow pumps and start.

    I have a question on the vacuum lines. Can you make a video on where they go? I have a 83 22r Toyota pickup that I am selling

    Mine it takes so long to start when it’s cold later on the coil gets hot, is that normal?

      Does it take a long time when its cold or when its already warm and been started?

    I have a question how did you flatten the passenger side butterfly before adjusting the choke? TIA

    • @DougGoneWild
      @DougGoneWild  Рік тому +2

      Are you adjusting it while it's cold? With your hand, slightly open the throttle cable (about ¼ throttle is fine) and at the same time close the passenger side choke plate with your finger. Let go of the throttle while holding the plate as far closed as it will go (this sequence has the same effect as stomping the gas pedal before starting the truck). Let go of the choke plate and if your choke is closing correctly then the plate should be about 1/8 th of an inch open. If you open the plate with your finger it should spring back to the closed position. If it does not spring back when pushed open, your choke needs to be adjusted or your coil needs to be replaced.

    Mine likes to blow black smoke like it's choking out for about 15 minutes. Any ideas?

      Honestly man, I had a truck in the past (10+ years ago) where I tried everything to get it to not dump fuel and black smoke while it was cold. I ended up just buying a new carb on Amazon for $100 and throwing it on to save the headache. Worked flawlessly afterwards if you aren't able to diagnose it. This is the one I bought and its still running on that pickup to this day: amzn.to/45Kh3vt

      Same issue here once it warms up temp gauge get exactly half way it’s fine, anything below, it’s choking at idle sounds like it have a healthy cam in it and usually cut off but driving it’s normal..was trying to avoid buying a carb if it was a 10minutes adjustment or clean..

    So how do you adjust the other butterfly?

    • @DougGoneWild
      @DougGoneWild  Рік тому +2

      The driver side butterfly valve is vacuum operated and only opens under full throttle. I've seen people use a rubber band to open it fully all the time with no negative effects.
