You know - after hearing news reporters & commentators who don't know their butt from a marshmallow - it's really refreshing to listen to someone with the background, knowledge & articulation to explain a process and it's history in detail without a lot of BS. Nolan was a great tour host !
One of my first jobs was grinding cams with masters back in the 80"s, I also spray welded cams and made performance cams for my dragbike back then. Cool stuff brings back memories.
I forget how long ago it was but Hot Rod Magazine a profile piece on Ed. What I remember the most was him at his desk and all the "stuff" EVERYWHERE and the description of that "stuff". He knew what and where everything was. He truly was one of the last Legends that laid the foundation for this incredible hobby.
Back in the late 50s dad used ISKY cams in his E/Gas 55 Chevy. It has been a long time since I've heard "three quarter cam" and "full race cam." Brought back memories. Thank you!
ISKY Cams are the best. I only run and will continue to run ISKY cams and lifters. ISKY cams were the hot cam back in the 60s as well with there polydyne cams. Won a lot of drag races in the early 60s.
I was ready to order a Comp Cams cam for my hot rod until I saw this video and learned that Alex is sponsored by Isky. Now I"m ordering an Isky cam & kit. I believe sponsors do their sponsoring for a reason. Good choice of racer to sponsor, Isky. Alex is a new generation hot rodder who will represent your company well.
Great insight into the progression of Cam grinding, I love that they are still a family owned business and how long some of their employees have been around. Keep them coming Alex
Your background videos are always interesting and introduce me to new processes. I loved the '55 project and it's fascinating to see some of the tech required to achieve such a build. So just keep them coming, Alex! Thanks for all your content. 😊
Great video and great family owned company! Just bought a cam for my 351 Cleveland from you guys. Called before purchase with some tech questions and you guys actually picked up the phone and I was speaking with a cam grinder - wow! You're not gonna get that kinda of treatment from the other guys.
Wow, what a great video! Very cool and informative. The background, history, design & machining, and the evolution of cam science & technology. It would be so cool if you get more of this type of video for other engine parts (blocks, crankshafts, rods, pistons, etc.). Tom M., Hawthorne Ca.
Hey Alex, Your absolutely awesome. You will be in the 6's. I hope this year you make the mid 6's. I have all the faith in you as a driver and your father as the builder. I can see it now. Take care and be safe.
Some say you never forget your first love. Mine was an Isky 505T- Magnum...and some girl than hung around. I don't remember her name. DK, ASE master tech since 78
Thanks for giving the little guy and imo one of the 2 best cam companies out there some publicity. Every Isky Ive used smoked any brand of copycat grind..no failures. They sell good stuff sad so many never even heard of them. Patronize the little guys while they are still here!! We still have choices.
As a recently retired 50 year toolmaker/"A" grinder hand, I can say that this is the type of work that I did for years, small batches, one offs, no room for error. Those old machines were made of the finest meehanite iron and lasted forever. My last job I ran a Jones & Shipman I.D./O.D. grinder that was probably 50 years old at least and it would repeat and hold a tenth or better all day. That said, modern machines with nano pitch scales and linear motors with temperature control are accurate to microns, and due to being computer controlled, can complete the part in one operation, concentric diameters and cam lobes as well without removing the part from the machine, minimizing the possibility of errors.
Alex, I believe this is the most interesting video I have watched on UA-cam to date! And I have watched a lot, UA-cam is basically my crack! Great video!
Thank You Alex! I have up until this day always wondered how Cams were ground! Epic Video!! Thank You for teaching an old guy! Keep doing what you do!!
It's refreshing to see a company moving forward while respecting their history. I hope they always have people that can grind cams on the original machine. It will keep them grounded. I've seen companies bring new people in to move forward that no nothing about the business and won't listen to the employees when they say there will be problems with the the new processes. They been there 40 years and tried different things and have a pretty good what works. The new guy refuses to listen and destroys the business doing things that could have been avoided. Isky seems to be taking all the old knowledge and refining it, not ignoring it and trying to reinvent everything. I hope they're here in another 200 years.
You go Alex ... Awesome to see young guns giving respect to the Old timers that are evolving with the times. There is nothing like ISKY to go from hand grinding to custom made and now even the customizing the CNC machine for their needs. It was GREAT to see behind the scenes ... I cant wait to see Isky's new youtube channel ... Thank for convincing Willy Wonka .... keep up the great videos!!! "Quig"
New subscriber here and love the content ! I am single parent that is raising 2 daughters & can see myself through Dennis' eyes...oldest wants to drag race & trying to find her inspiration/motivation with young women in the sport, stumbled onto your channel...what a blessing for my daughter to see your videos ! There is an incredible back story to our situation but too much to post here...again, thank you & best of luck !...
Alex, this video made me want to buy cams from them. You seriously should be compensated for this. They should make an Alex Taylor cam and that's where all hell breaks lose!!!! Ata girl!!!! Isky should pay up because Alex Taylor is goin fast and stayin pretty and that shits not cheap!!!!!👍😛😮
As high end as tat machine is, it probably is calculated thur software usage from the amount of material it has removed. Being a custom wheel, I doubt they want to over dress it and wash the life down the drain.
That thing is moving. I hate to see that thing come apart. I worked in a machine shop and saw these little 4-in in diameter ones come apart. Parts of that thing flew past my head like a bullet. I can't imagine that thing coming apart. That would be catastrophic.
I’m 62-1/2 years old ,& can STILL remember when the “ Cam -Wars” were raging in the 1960’s between Isky & Crane & all the adds in magazines of the day . Cams ground on the “ World famous “ Norton grinder was Isky’s calling card to fame. Then when “ Comp -cams “ suddenly emerged as a world player all those adds showing a cartoon Ed flying his airplane over the dump truck dumping cams off at dealers and his comments about how quantity cannot beat quality and so forth. Then his interview’s in Hot-Rod magazine , and then me & my Father FINALLY getting the rare opportunity to meet “ The Man , the myth , the Legend “ himself at the 75th Year of HOT -ROD magazine Show up at Pomona years ago & getting some great memories from just sitting & “ Bench -racing “ with all the legendary purveyors of speed equipment there that year…… PRICELESS. Ed truly was & still is a pioneer in his field & wasn’t afraid to take chances & risks to succeed . A true “ Outside the box” thinker , like Vic Edelbrock, Stu Hilborn & Bruce Myers , all of whom are sadly no longer with us . But the legacy men like these have left behind for others to follow is HUGE, and with video content like this will hopefully not be forgotten, and can be enjoyed by future generations for years & years to come hopefully. Thanks for posting this one, & glad to see the company is still going strong👍.
Totally enjoyed this whole vid!!!!! Amazing information and "behind the scenes" looks of an amazing company and great products!!!!! Alex huge thanks for providing the access and great info!! Need to get the next level BBC cam/valvetrain and make competitive power without going all Billet aluminum blocks & heads!! Love this Episode well done!
Cool video Alex. I got the grand tour of Isky's by his son a few years ago. That was before the cleanup so his office was an amazing waist deep collection of cool memorabilia.... I noticed stuff like SCTA newsletters from the early 40's in the piles. Also got to see all the stuff out back... space junk, old cam grinders, old cars, prototype tires and all.... and in the lobby the Christmas cards on the wall include one from Elvis thanking Isky for his help on a movie ! Plus learned all about the cam grinding too so this is a nice refresher since the rest of the tour overwhelmed the sense too much to grasp the tech!
Hello Alex thanks for the awesome inside look at Isky Racing Cams I really enjoy seeing that the old ways are still doing used right next to the new ways
I have an Isky Z-33 cam in my 427 which is in my 1966 Chevelle which is my first car that I bought in 1980. We built the 427 in 1983 and it outran a Vancouver policeman and made believers out of a lot of people. It still runs great 41 years later. Thanks to Ed Iskenderian.
I had been to Isky several times while living in LA as a walk in customer. Great bunch of people. My work was a couple blocks away from their old old building in Culver City. It is like a shack. Wondering if Ed has considered retiring yet.
Great job showing and telling, love to have a flat topic cam for my 460v8. 1990 year motor. Thanks again for showing telling see ya next time see ya bye.
7:20 Here in Brazil, people make 2500 hp with these old 6-cylinder chevy and run 7 seconds low in cars with stock chassis / bodies and DRAG DOT RADIAL tires
What a great video! Thank you so much for the behind the scenes look at how cam grinding works. I've always loved Isky cams, in fact they are the first company I bought from back in the early 80's.
This was really interesting to see the history and how far technology has come to build a 6 second car that can drive off the track to the next town and do it all over again, while only really needing to change tyres. I know nothing about engines, and even less about race engines, but even I know that is crazy talk, and not that long ago would have been considered impossible.
The use of turbos are a big game changer. They can make huge power, but it remove a lot of the stress on the engine when they are just "idling". A Clark Kent/Superman type of identity.
This was very interesting. I met Mr. Ed at the Engine Masters competition 2 different times. He is a very amazing guy. At his age he still remembers everything and he tells so many great stories.
What a great informative video from an intelligent woman...The best part, No safety glasses, hard hats and vests...Common sense does still prevail in this world...Fantastic...Next cam I buy will be an ISKY...I love old school to new school.
Thanks so much for this video! Being an Old School machinist (never got the opportunity to work with anything tied to a computer) I found this video very informative.
Alex, really enjoy all your content really enjoyed the Isky tour. Your channel is one of my favorites keep it up looking forward to drag and drive events and getting your car running into 6's, not doubting you like Nolan did..
I really enjoyed the visitation at Esky learned a lot things that I always wondered thanks for everything thanks for showing us that I really did like it keep up the good work stay safe God bless
You will get in the 6's I have no doubt . You need to make more videos so we know you're still there. You really make great videos, no matter what the content is. GO FAST AND STAY PRETTY !!!
Behind the scens whit Alex ! Total awesom by A awesom girl. Now we vant moore ! And see all companys secrets=) And the sixes are just around the corner!!!!!!!!!
This is awesome taking care of the work force for years 😀👍🏻 and progress with new technology, but still keeping the old school tools so that if the computer stuff's up , you can still do stuff 🤙🏼 and congrats on the the guy's being there for decades that is so cool 😀👍🏻👍🏽
Well we've known for a while that you're awesome. It's amazing to see how far the whole process has came in 100 years. I'm still trying to get used to getting the laptop out to change the tune instead of some screwdrivers wrenches and lights. I'm the old guy messing with this new fangled technology LOL
She’s a living doll. Great video. I also run an ISKY. SOLID cam and hydraulic lifters. For 40 years. Didn’t know it till I called them one day about it and the dude said it’s a solid cam. I said I got from PAW. I ordered a hydraulic cam and lifters. He said that’s why they’re out of business. To many fuck UPs. Any thoughts people?
Very good video. Informative and entertaining. Now we need a follow up with some spintron and some dyno testing! And yes, Alex, you are fast! Good luck on your quest.

One of my first jobs was grinding cams with masters back in the 80"s, I also spray welded cams and made performance cams for my dragbike back then. Cool stuff brings back memories.
Did you work for one of the bike cam companies? Web, megacycle, cam motion?
@@robertmason8341no I worked at local shop, we did all kinds of crankshafts and camshafts for local rebuilders.
I forget how long ago it was but Hot Rod Magazine a profile piece on Ed. What I remember the most was him at his desk and all the "stuff" EVERYWHERE and the description of that "stuff". Isky is number 1 on my list been using them for years. Great company 👌
Your background videos are always interesting and introduce me to new processes.
I loved the '55 project and it's fascinating to see some of the tech required to achieve such a build.
So just keep them coming, Alex!
Thanks for all your content. 😊
Nice job Alex! Not an easy video to edit and make flow so well. Very impressive! Nice job kid.
Great video and great family owned company! Just bought a cam for my 351 Cleveland from you guys. Called before purchase with some tech questions and you guys actually picked up the phone and I was speaking with a cam grinder - wow! You're not gonna get that kinda of treatment from the other guys.

Very cool to see the history, the way the process evolved, the old machines, loved it! Thank you young lady.
The tour was very interesting. Like you, I enjoyed the history of the process over the years. The sit down at the end was pretty funny too.
Thanks for giving the little guy and imo one of the 2 best cam companies out there some publicity. Every Isky Ive used smoked any brand of copycat grind..no failures.

Alex, I believe this is the most interesting video I have watched on UA-cam to date! And I have watched a lot, UA-cam is basically my crack! Great video!
Awesome work Alex, it's always nice to so much history in a company. Love it.
Thank You Alex! I have up until this day always wondered how Cams were ground! Epic Video!! Thank You for teaching an old guy! Keep doing what you do!!
A company that is in it for the future! But yet old school to keep people employed !
Kool video Alex! Like 👍 it!

I love the thought of Ed in his garage with that first machine...experimenting with the early hot rod cams... Now I want an Isky for my flathead:)
From someone who was there in the 60s, Isky was the $#!+, the first choice.
You want a Isky - 404

Looks like cam grinding has gone from an art to an exact science but Isky is both. Great informative video
Extremely cool to see the process!!!
Really interesting. Thx for taking the time to share this with us
Cool seeing the inside of their shop, Also made the top 20.
WOW, a company I thought was dying is NOT. I hope they never stop doing the old stuff. Thanks for posting this video, very informative.
This was really cool. I’m excited for their diesel cams now
Alex, this video made me want to buy cams from them. You seriously should be compensated for this. They should make an Alex Taylor cam and that's where all hell breaks lose!!!! Ata girl!!!! Isky should pay up because Alex Taylor is goin fast and stayin pretty and that shits not cheap!!!!!👍😛😮
The "Fast Girl" cam series? 😁
This video is a great Ride, Thanks Alex. I really enjoy this stuff..
I’m interested in how the grind stone is trued and how does the machine account for wear on the stone. Cool machine
I was thinking the same thing!
As high end as tat machine is, it probably is calculated thur software usage from the amount of material it has removed. Being a custom wheel, I doubt they want to over dress it and wash the life down the drain.

I just turned 62 and have had an Isky Z-33 cam in my 427 66 Chevelle since 1983 and it runs great.
Pretty cool. I saw an interview with Ed a couple of years ago. I think he was over 100 at that time. I hope he’s still thriving.
One of the best videos I’ve seen on UA-cam! Good job girl!

As a computer professional, it was interesting to see the evolution from hand ground cams to CAD-CAM-CNC ground cams.
Love these tours. The first cam grinder is awesome, and glad they kept it. It’s history!
Awesome video, you managed to cover a lot in a short amount of time.
Hello Alex thanks for the awesome inside look at Isky Racing Cams I really enjoy seeing that the old ways are still doing used right next to the new ways
Awesome vlog Alex, really enjoyed it!
I had an Isky solid roller cam in my 800 HP NA big block Chevy in '91. They were the only ones that had the right numbers for my build.
I use to regrind cams on a valcan. In the early 80s at a machine shop in New Mexico. Thanks for the awesome fun video! Brings back memories.

Nice job on the interview.

I know a lot more about cams now than I knew before, witch was almost nothing. Thanks for the video.
Awesome tour, its cool to see how its done!!
What a great video! Thank you so much for the behind the scenes look at how cam grinding works. I've always loved Isky cams, in fact they are the first company I bought from back in the early 80's.
I am completely astonished. I love history issues. No wonder everyone swears by ISKY cams. Amazing
Alex with the insider footage! Thank you for giving us car nerds view of Isky that we've never seen before.
Wow that was so interesting, thanks for filming and posting.
What an awesome video. The tour and info was great!!

I just ordered a new Isky Cam for my 360 Gremlin build last night! Great show of the shop!

Man, what a great guy. I am so impressed. Top video as usual.
If there's a single person that dislikes Alex, for whatever reason, i would suggest that he/she find themselves a very good Psychiatrist!
Very cool to be able to see where the magic happens - ISKY cams are a pioneer of drag racing equipment 😎

Well we've known for a while that you're awesome. It's amazing to see how far the whole process has came in 100 years. I'm still trying to get used to getting the laptop out to change the tune instead of some screwdrivers wrenches and lights. I'm the old guy messing with this new fangled technology LOL
Very interesting thank you Alex
Excellent video, Alex! Entertaining and informative...and never dull! Good job!
Great tour video, props to Isky for the brilliant company philosophy 😎👍
loved the interview and education on this segment
She’s a living doll. Great video. I also run an ISKY. SOLID cam and hydraulic lifters. For 40 years. Didn’t know it till I called them one day about it and the dude said it’s a solid cam. I said I got from PAW. I ordered a hydraulic cam and lifters. He said that’s why they’re out of business. To many fuck UPs. Any thoughts people?
Loved the video so much info to take in. Thanks for going there
that was great thanks Alex and Nolan for the tour
Very good video. Informative and entertaining. Now we need a follow up with some spintron and some dyno testing! And yes, Alex, you are fast! Good luck on your quest.
I'm also impressed with Alex Taylor !
