Looks like one of those projects that needs to be designed as you go...Nice work!

That's a good looking chair bud. Great job.

Hi mate, I loved this, I have a couple of whole barrels and some extra barrel staves, mist are whisky, so have to sand all the charred bits off the inside. Can I just check, did you manage to make the chair from one barrel only? And/or did you get the table out of the same barrel or gave to use more. I really love it, thanks for sharing.

Hi Mark, I'm glad you enjoyed this. I think one barrel can make a chair and a side table, but probably not two side tables. I don't know exactly because I started with an odd pile of barrel pieces

Awesome instructional video! I like the use of the fast forward to show things that take a long time to do. I think a couple of scenes of the ladies sitting in it at the end would be cool.

Looks great! How high up is the front stile that the back legs eventually rest on? Also, did you scribe the seat pieces so the fit flush to the legs? Thanks for the tips.

Oh, and how far apart are the front legs?

Thanks James! For most of the measurements, I had a kitchen chair nearby I would sit on to use as a starting point and adjust from there. For the height, I wanted 16" in the end, so I mounted the top surface of the front support at 15" high to account for seating plank thickness. I didn't modify the seat planks to sit flush, but that is a good idea! Their curvature did introduce a gap, and screw threads are visible as built. One consideration is that the wine-side of the planks tend to be cracked and weak. If you remove wood from the air-side as you are suggesting then you are taking strength away.

@@djchapman1 Thanks for getting back to me. I built adirondacks with barrels and attempted modifying, it gets tricky... I am building a rocker now and since it's a moving chair I won't modify as you suggested, I want the wood to be as strong as possible given it's state. Thanks and take care.

      James, great video
On your rear height of arc, what was the height for attaching staves for backrest?
In other words, the front was 15” to get 16” on front, what was the height or rear seating intersection. Thanks, Neil

I can't wait till someone explains the per stave measurments. That would be worth subscribing too.

Thanks Bill! I used Kreg 1 1/4" pocket hole screws for all the joints, generally with wood glue as well. I used 1.5" wood screws for attaching the seat and back planks. The carriage bolts were 1/4" dia with nuts and washers. The short ones in front were 2.5", and the long ones for the back rest were 5" but I trimmed them down. I didn't make a cut list, but I had another chair nearby to copy dimensions like seat height & width. Hope that helps!

      No, it really doesn't help.
