Michael seems to write a script for interviews and just trot the same thing out time after time.

I know it may not be until hell freezes over, but I don’t think we’re going to fully understand the whole Scorpions/Lovedrive/Michael story until Michael and Rudolph sit down together and do an interview talking about everything? He does make some points. However, even back in the day, I always remember that the Scorpions did not leave Michael‘s name out of Lovedrive (or Lonesome Crow for that matter), and always acknowledged that he was indeed a part of it. So when I heard all this later on, I didn’t fully understand Michael‘s position? Because as a fan, I always knew even back in the day that Michael was a part of Lovedrive

Then why isn't Michaels' picture on the Lovedrive album ? slight oversight? or convenient omission to keep the Scorpions image intact.Without Michaels' contribution to Lovedrive I wouldn't even want to listen to that great album .Michaels' trademark sound is all over that album .Just put on the song Lovedrive and wait for the chills to go through your spine when that lead comes in. No Michael and the magic of that album is gone.Same with Coast to Coast . Scorpions knew if you went to see them live, the band that you saw at home on that album, better be the band that's on that stage (especially back in the day). And the contract for the album stated Michael was an equal sixth member of the Scorpions, equal meaning equal representation as all of the other members of the Scorpions. By Michael being omitted from that album photo he was not equally represented.Michael wasn't just a part of the Lovedrive album he was....keyword..... "EQUAL" but they made it appear as if he were a guest, hoping that the fans wouldn't notice.... and they were successful at that. And as for Lonesome Crow Michael was absolutely the biggest song contributor on that album so yeah, it's only fitting that his name is on that album. Michaels' position is that he just wants the true details and credits out in the open where they belong.(sorry for the long editorial.....just felt like practicing my spelling (ha!).... Peace fellow Scorpion fan!

thomas conrad very good points, don’t dispute, deny, or disagree with any of that. I agree with a lot of what he says, but he really does lose me when he says that everything that they did and all the success they obtained would never have been without his (and only his) contributions. The whole entire history with Uli Jon Roth is a big part, as well as the Scorpions after Uli and Michael. I will admit, Michael may be favorite guitarist of all time, but Uli is right up there with him ..and the entire history they had (73-78) leading up to Tokyo Tapes has to be credited for them to gaining attention globally. I guess I’m just shocked at the way he comes across when speaking of Lovedrive. Because, again, as a fan, even though he wasn’t pictured, I always knew that he was a part of that album. And he acts as if he’s JUST NOW seeing all the artwork, credits, and pictures for the Lovedrive album some 40 years later!?

From my understanding, Michael was only officially part of The Scorpions want the tour started in 1979.He was a guest guitarist on Lovedrive ,helping the task that Matthias could'nt handle at that time. Vinnie Vincent wasn't credited for his playing on Creatures of the Night (although later on he was credited but without Vinnie's pictures). The uncredited composing of Coast To Coast to Michael was maybe due to publishing issues at that time and Michael agreed and gave the song to Rudolf.

@@rocklivechannel8897 When Michael was still under contract with UFO when Lovedrive was recorded, it would make sense to me, that he is only mentioned as a guest. I'm not a specialist in contract matters though.

I have news for Michael: Uli Jon Roth (known as Ulrich Roth at the time) did more to “open the doors to America” for Scorpions than Michael did. Tokyo Tapes was a bonafide hit and there was a bidding war among the major record labels for Scorpions - before Michael got involved with Lovedrive - as Tokyo Tapes was the last record on the band’s contract with RCA in America. (Lovedrive was far from the first Scorpions album to be released in America. Also, Michael didn’t actually play on the Lovedrive tour in America because he quit two weeks into the first [European] leg of the tour, so how exactly did he “open the doors to America” for Scorpions?). Yes, Michael was asked to play on Lovedrive, but he makes it sound as if Scorpions had no talent without him and nothing could be further from the truth. That band was ready for America and vice versa and regardless of Michael’s presence or input, it was going to happen. He claims Rudolf commandeered his image with the Flying V, but Rudolf was the first of the two to own a Flying V. Michael played it and, in his own words, “fell in love and refused to give it back”! I’ve read where Rudolf said he sold it to Michael and bought another for himself. Michael often gets names and dates wrong when recalling all of these supposed wrongs that were done to him; I think he has a foggy memory due to his alcohol addiction, which is common. I’m not disparaging him - it’s obvious to anyone who has followed his career since the 70s. He made choices that negatively affected his career and is now using his brother, who he used to credit with being his mentor and helping him with his career, the scapegoat. It doesn’t make sense to me. He has said that he gave Rudolf the instrumental Coast to Coast, so why is he mad at Rudolf for it? Michael is angry that his photo doesn’t appear on the Lovedrive cover, which wasn’t Rudolf’s decision, but more likely some record company marketing guy’s. Michael says that he was never about money, but it seems to me perhaps he’s a bit jealous that Rudolf is a multi-millionaire, despite being a lesser-talented guitarist than Michael. He’s been mocking Rudolf’s abilities for at least four years now, while Rudolf has taken the high road. I don’t know why no one ever questions Michael about any of this stuff. Maybe they’re too starstruck or something, I don’t know. At any rate, I hope Michael comes to his senses and patches things up with his brother. To quote a latter-day Scorpions song: life is too short.

He started playing heavy from the very first record of Scorpions. Metal was in the center of interest in 80' so I think he brought to Lovedrive, this official album release some features of what would happen in the next decade and that's what he's saying. I am not sure how media was working back then but even if there was a promo or the slightest reference that he was back and also wrote some songs on the new album it's really something because Michael had already passed the borders of US with UFO,they knew him! Scorpions had signed contract for US tour during Tokyo Tapes era and that is a fact,Roth was the biggest factor of this success.Michael helped them and he was/is a brand name on his own and he wants the credit for his contribution.

If it wasn't for Michael, Rudolf would be working at Stihl. Matthias would've played guitar for 'Nena' - 99 Luftballons.

Connor Harrison - That’s a crock of shit. Michael is a great guitarist and songwriter, but he’s not solely responsible for Scorpions’ success. Rudolf, while obviously not a guitarist on his brother’s level, has written many a classic song without any help from Michael. Still Loving You, written by Rudolf and Klaus Meine, sold two million copies in France alone. The combined sales of every single Michael has ever released don’t amount to that! The fact that the younger Schenker played on the Lovedrive album is not what broke Scorpions in America. That was a foregone conclusion, as there was a bidding war among every major label in 1978, when Scorps’ contract with RCA in America was up. Scorpions also switched management at that time and the plan was for them to tour America behind the record that became Lovedrive. It took the band just a year of opening for other acts in the States before becoming headliners and that was with Mathias on lead guitar, not Michael. You’re buying Michael’s over-inflated b.s. about how Scorpions owe all their success to him. It’s simply not true. Michael should be angry with himself for sabotaging his own career many, many times over the years.

@@crusheverything4449- Everything Michael said was obvious to me a long time ago... BTW, Rudolf only had Klaus and Uli because of Michael... No Klaus, no success. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @crusheverything4449

Connor Harrison - I thought it was “no Michael, no success”. Make up your mind. You’re obviously one of those who takes Michael’s side because he’s a better guitarist than his brother. Michael destroyed his own credibility as a performer years ago by leaving tours abruptly with no notice and walking off stage, leaving paying fans in the lurch many times. What’s your defense for that behavior? Is that Rudolf’s fault, too? Michael has been one of my two favorite guitarists for 45 years, but he’s had a problematic professional track record over that time. I can tell you this: Rudolf has never left fans in front of a stage, scratching their heads wondering where the hell he went and if he would come back out to play. Michael has done it many times and has never apologized, nor played any make-up shows. He took his fans’ money, though! He’s a great guitar player, no doubt, but he’s no hero of mine. He should complain and point fingers a whole lot less and take some responsibility for his own actions and the detriment they’ve caused him. He should also, at the very least, apologize to his fans for the times he left them in the lurch at shows. If he did that simple thing, my opinion of him would change for the better. Instead, he displays classic addict behavior by blaming the people who are closest to him and who have tried to help him the most, such as Rudolf. It’s sad, really.

This guy is a great guitar player, of that there is no doubt. But he needs to stop bringing up Rudolf, the Scorpions, UFO and all that jazz in every single f*cking interview, it's getting old.

C'mon Michael, what's ur exactly expect? Need Rudolf kneel down say "thank u, brother"? We all know u r the one of those best, we all know u were an important role in whatever UFO or Scorpions. But, the problem is u decide to be an solo artist, u don't want those fame, so stop complain these bullshit again and again, ok ?

All this long attitude to Rudolf and the Scorpions. But one thing is for sure he’s orders of magnitude better On the guitar and as a composer than his brother.
