what was your favorite length?
Shoulder length. I'm flirting with layered bra strength length if that's a thing.
LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!
Shoulder length
13 years into the loc journey. They are way to heavy now for my peace. As beautiful as they are am done with the knee length. This video was perfect for the knowledge. Thank you.
I'm only 4 months in, but I'll definitely be trimming my locs once they get past a certain length
I want to cut my locs FOR spiritual reasons. I was deep into depression for a very long time and I'm trying to start over
Same here
When yall are ready, DO IT! I just cut my hair this week… Wednesday and not just physical weight was lifted but spiritually, I felt BRAND new. Like God really has created me ON purpose for a A purpose. I’m currently in my healing journey and I didn’t realize how much cutting my hair would play a role. And as I grow and heal I will trim all the old hair from old ways of living until it’s fresh and new!
Facts. Starting my locs down bad, now I'm in a great state of mind, my new set will be glowing
After 8 years I went from waist length to ear length bob and I absolutely loved it but now, back at waist length, a part of me wish I would have kept it all. My locs would have literally been at knees! I even thought about reattaching them! But I love every decision I have ever made about them and I have always had curls at the end of my locs do to the texture of my hair and I love that about them too!!!!!!#15yearsin
Mhm bet u wont cut em that short again😂

I had to cut both for both #1 & #2 and being 5"2 and petite the back pains and neck pain was getting ridiculous. I love my state of being to not put myself through that pain.
Some pretty great info here! Thank you!
I’m caucasian with 11-year-old dreads and have trimmed about 16 inches off twice in that time (they were mid-thigh length each time and still long after the trim). I’m back at that length and needing another trim so actually decided to do some research this time to see if I could learn something new!
My hair type is naturally a mix of 2b to 3a in different areas and I’ve found it a bit tricky to find info for caucasian dreadlocks online. For me, when I trim my dreads I then have to comb out about 2-3 inches of the tip and then crochet it, piece by small piece back into a blunted tip. They don’t unravel on me (luckily!) but my hair texture just won’t lock up, or round out those ends again. I already use the crochet method for my root, length, and tip maintenance anyway, so it’s pretty familiar to me. I’ve just got to keep that in mind when trimming since they’ll be an extra few inches shorter after I’ve finished reblunting the tips!
My worry comes from enjoying that combing out step and worrying about taking it up too far, or wanting to keep going! So far, so good, but being able to brush my hair (or better yet, have it brushed) is one of the things I’ve missed since getting my dreads! Those few weeks that it takes me to blunt the tips of my 61 dreads after a trim can be fun, albeit tedious!
If you haven’t already, it might be nice to have a few videos highlighting the differences with even more hair types, including the difficulties and differences with locking up and maintaining straighter hair textures in dreadlocks. For example, I can’t do root interlocking to maintain regrowth or I’ll end up with these weird holes, loops, and bubbles in my dreads, which I have after caving a few times when I have had really long regrowth. Dread maintenance looks different for everyone, but there are some big differences with straighter vs curly/coily hair types. Might be handy to have more of that info out there!
8 years in, I’m considering trimming. It’s so much weight when washing. And I deliver mail, always outside. I work in Louisiana, my hair feels like a sweater on my back during the summer. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Please cut them
Thanks for this video! Almost three years in, I cut 4 locs recently. They all had hair that was flat like pancakes, all at the same length. I got tired of seeing that. I did use haircutting shears, but I did cut straight across and blunt them. All my ends are loose, but these haven’t unraveled yet. It’s okay if they do. Love your podcast and videos!
I trimmed 💇🏾 mines this morning and you did this video on today..
I messed up then because I trimmed my locs straight/even/horizontally with
barber💈 scissors ✂.😳
I started off with 113 locs and now I have 28. I have 28 locs now because I have a faded haircut style with my locs. I love the ponytails look with my locs and I was able to do so by me cutting majority of my locs off.
I didn’t know curly ends were a trend !? I’ve had my locks 11 years now, curly ends and all -they’re passed my butt and between getting caught under said butt, in the seatbelt clip and my armpit , elbows, around my neck and in every other situation imaginable ,I’m ready for a trim ! But I want to keep my curly ends
I'm 20yrs in...I never imagined I'd get to this point BUT...I've got constant neck pain...They're floor length now and I love them STILL but I'm here hoping to gain confidence before I trim lol...I'm putting it off for the last year or so...
I want to retrim the locs as I first growing it out bc, say if u having a bad moment in your own city, and u feel like nobody love u, or u r curse to being alone in this world by yourself, and u dig deep into being your best version of yourself better then u old self that grew the locs long in your hair, u want your locs be the inspiration of your old self but, u need to cut them in order to forget about the past that all the obstacles and rejection that u went threw in your life, to be more confident, not to cut them all the way down to the point u have a 1 inch hair but to start regrowing them out, to have the new version of your locs to be the inspiration of your life, I’m jus making a questionable statement
I LOVE IT!!❤❤❤❤ I’ve been called the Black Pocahontas for years then my world shattered! Now I’m just Nyei!!. 🤣😢😒😩🙄I was so sad I had to cut my locs but at the same time glad I did. I can tell a huge difference but I can’t wait til it grow back to the length. Just certain styles and looks I miss. But I’m even more in touch with how I take care of them.
Your locs look amazing and I definitely plan trimming my locs for my 10 year locanniversary next year and I definitely got to buy some sheers now 👍🏾👏🏾🤗.
I started my locs in 2012, 6 years ago I cut them into a Bob and now they are back at my butt. Going back to shoulder length for my birthday this year! I’m tired of them getting caught in my armpit lmaoooo
Do they unravel when u cut them? What to do if it does?
@@streetsharksbedfordpoint6.933 it doesn’t unravel , best to cut them at an angle to make sure but mature locs shouldn’t unravel. Idk your hair type tho that might make a difference
Your hair looks great! No excuses necessary 🐱
You look amazing, and so do your locks. Thanks for the tips 🙏🏿
Heaviness!!!💯💯💯 I do want a trim….back to between BSL and MBL…working up my nerve, since I wanted to keep them 10 years before a change…. But I don’t think I can make it that long! 🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️😂
🎉🎉🎉 Congrats on 10 years. Cut them locs!🎉🎉🎉
@@georgina4874 I’m at 8 years now… working towards it. I think after this summer, before sweater-weather hits. 😂👍🏾 Trim to BSL sounds like the plan.
I've had my locs since 2014. They ended up growing to my tailbone. They were super heavy and hot, and I couldn't take it anymore. I've had them cut twice, and I'm going to cut them again this month. I feel so much lighter after cutting them!!!
I have had some weak ends and I just pulled them off. I didn’t try to reattach them. I let it go! Lol I’m ok with my length. Mid back length. My Locs are layered because I chopped the front off because they had too many “straight ends” in the beginning. I’m glad of it because they are not as bulky as they would have been. I didn’t know that they would bud eventually until later.
Your green, blue hair is so pretty!
I'm thinking about cutting my locs bc my hair is getting too long, in the way and when i retie my hair out takes forever. Thanks for this video it was very informative
This sure did help because this is my first time, and I was definitely about to get those kitchen scissors 😅 Thank you!
Great video and information
Very helpful. Thank you!
Personally I want to trim my hightop set, specifically in half, and donor the trimmed locs to my sides and back.
You can always crochet the tops back together 🤩🤩🤩
I’m 12 years in they are to the backs of my legs and I really want to cut them shorter so bad but everybody keeps trying to force me to grow them to my knees same way they tried to force me not to loc my hair
I’m thinking of trimming them so I can reattach them on my sides to get full head just in case I want to a little farther down the journey I’m barely at 5 months
I Been Having My Locks Since 2009, They Were Too Thin, In 2020 I Combined Them Three In 1, Now They Are Much Thicker And Long, But Have Two Different Set Ups, So I Would Like To Trim Out The Part That Was Joined To Level Them Up.
When you said don't use sissors, I was so confused lol, because I call sheers hair sissors. Then, when you explained, I was like, "Oh, she's talking about kitchen sissors 😂😂😂.
Empress 👑
Thank you!!
I am 6 months in and I don’t think having long hair is what I want in my loc journey. Even with weave and braids prior to locking I realize that shoulder length or shorter bob lengths are more for me. I swear too easily and I can’t take all that heaviness on my big head. My reason for locking is because I was obsessed with perming my hair to weave straight weaves but my hard 4c hair would curl right back up every 2-3wks and I’ll be right back to another perm. Then it’s the braiding pulling my scalp or too costly for me sometimes, or braiders not listening when I say “I don’t want long braids” or, “I want it mid length and not so dense cause I just wanted it to wrap up in a light bun”. It never worked out because they’ll still go ahead and braid or they wanted. It also was just the wait time in salons. (Which I stopped years before just deciding in wigs and braids) I hated going to a salon spending a whole day, then telling you to come for a certain time and still have thousands people ahead of you, charge so much and still, your hair looks nothing like you requested.
All in all I just want to give my scalp and hair a break and enjoy my free time without worries of trying to look “European” or whatever with the long weaves.
So I do think I’ll be cutting my locs whenever they get pass my shoulders for as long as I have in locs.
Sorry for the rant! I’m venting lmao 😂
I cut my locs due to breakage after surgery and my ends have not sealed up almost a year later
I never thought id trim my locs but i have had them for about 5 years and they had gotten SO long (bra strap length) , they are heavy, HOT and all one length.
It drives me crazy when the back of my hair looks like an EKG… LOL I need to have a good shape to my hair. I cut/ trim to maintain a good shape
6 months in middle of my back and just want my tips off but thinking I will wait until they fully mature before I do
Im about to cut my locs to bra strap length. Some of my ends are weak because of bleach. The front of my hair is bra strap length but the back is almost at my bum.
Thank you! This was helpful. I'm going to a professional.
I have a question I'm wondering if I should trim my locks only because I had an inch or two to fall from my block it was probably like three of them but they were at different times I had 12 recently do it today so I'm trying to see should I trim my Locs do to that I have tried a lot of different colors and I think that it may have something to do with me bleaching my hair as far as like the different colors that I tried the vibrant colors what should I do
Scissor trims all the time, whenever i dont like an end🤷🏾♀️
I’m 5 months in and I noticed that I have some straight pieces towards the ends of my hair that’s not really locing but I think I want to trim them because my hair will grow faster after all the dead hair/damaged hair is off I think my hair should grow faster that way
Correct! Trim away with a razor, not scissors
I just started my loc journey in January 2024 and I got bangs which I love but they are getting long very fast and I’m worried I won’t be able to keep them for long 😭
Is it okay to start trimming your hair before it matures?
What if you find weak spots in your locs? Do you suggest repairing or cutting them?
Yes. I definitely would cut the week spots now. It will grow back.
Do Razor kits have shears or scissors?
Whose hair was that in the thumbnail? I thought we'd see their hair as it's beautiful.
Im cutting my locks for lint issues. Its so long i can see the filth. I see the depression.
here after i trimmed them 😭💀
I just want to round off the tips there’s slight longish hairs that surpass the tips.
Why was this recommended to me right after I finished trimming mine straight across with scissors
Why not bangs? I've been locd for a year and 7 months and I love how they are framing my face and want to keep that look.
I wanna trim my 15 years old locks
Why not scissors
damn my scissors broke
What do you use to cut them if not scissors? How unhelpful!
😴
My hair is very, very thick. They get so heavy. It's hard to wear updos for me without concern for neck pain. So I trimmed them a few times over the past 10 years. I used scissors the first time 🫢😮.
If I comb out the end after I cut I then twist it will ir loc again
