    The system goes online on April 1 2023, removing human decisions. C-FMVU begins to learn rapidly and eventually becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m., EDT, on August 29.

    I'm just an aviation enthusiast....I am blown away there's an optional/aftermarket auto pilot. What an awesome upgrade! This will be great once you get to altitude as you can kick back and just monitor. Chris is phenomenal. Knowledgeable, capable, thorough, and just a nice guy. Awesome video

      Not sure about the kicking back part. I enjoy autopilot as it helps with the workload, but you constantly have to monitor it. it can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Never let it run though without keeping a close eye on it.

I’ll be leaving in my 40+ year old Century III autopilot when I get my avionics work done next month, and if the work messes up the fragile autopilot, I’ll have pretty much no choice but to go with that autopilot that cost more than your plane. 😂 Fingers crossed that doesn’t happen!

    The Cherokee Six I fly has a dual axis AP by Trio. I understand why the owner was attracted to it and it's ok, but tbh it has a some issues and on many flights, I typically prefer to hand fly. We have the other style of panel (rectangular), and the operation is pretty unintuitive but can be learned of course. Besides any human factors/design gripes, we've had issues with uncommanded pitch movements/trim runaways and other glitches. It's too bad the market is so small and the big name player's gear is so expensive.

    • @GlensHangar
      @GlensHangar  Рік тому +4

      Fingers crossed that I won't have the same trouble - from early testing, I'll probably never really interact with the actual AP panel. Everything will happen through the Dynon panel.

    Hello Glen from Sydney Australia.
    Fantastic episode and technical detail, installing the Trio avionics auto pilot into your plane.
    *The servo motors must be an amazing design to withstand yoke inputs and GPS commands.
    *The anodised aluminium servo support rails: any vibration or twisting present (I'm thinking turbulence flying)?
    * Have you lined the inside of the fuselage?
    🛩️📻

    • @GlensHangar
      @GlensHangar  Рік тому +2

      The inside of the fuselage has been lined with a lightweight foam material - more for looks than anything else. After the rails were in ten aft compartment we did a little twist test and found that they were really stable.

    For about $100US you could easily install a GPS repeater (aka a re-radiator) in the hangar then you wouldn't need to roll the plane out of the hangar to test your GPS connections.

    Genuinely surprised you left the wires not connected awaiting future software adding functionality. Does the manufacturer (Trio) have any concrete answers as to which pins you should be installing it (I assume into the Avidyne) in preparation? Especially seeing as you have it to bits for the annual at the moment.

    • @GlensHangar
      @GlensHangar  9 місяців тому

      The software is done - it works. But like all good things... approval is held up in paperwork with the FAA. So until the FAA gives its stamp of approval, I can't use all of the functions. Frustrating, but I knew that would be the case going in.

      Trying to decide if I should go with the trio or the Garmin GFC500. Dynon does not make an auto pilot for my 1959 182. But I don’t really want to hate to have a new panel cut, why is nothing easy with Avionics! Do you miss being able to shoot ILS localizer approaches? I need to get my instrument rating and I’m wondering if I need that capability to pass my check ride. I guess you just end up flying them by hand.
