The notion cracked me up: the internationally acclaimed Balint being "kicked out" in favor of a Hammond organ repairman. 🤣Meanwhile, we get a short master class... in registration.

Forty fascinating minutes, during which it's abundantly clear why you have such unbridled enthusiasm for Richards & Fowkes! What a gem of an instrument, immaculately elegant both aurally and visually. Thanks for a great demonstration.

I really enjoy the way he explains these stops and the combinations make perfect sense. Bach would have loved you as his student. Absolutely brilliant.

"[the 16' Principal] has a really nice purring sound in the bass." RFC would be so proud to hear that compliment!

Duke University is certainly blessed with fine pipe organs in both the Chapel and Divinity School. I enjoyed your Chapel Recital on UA-cam yesterday. (They aren't all in one location, but we have a nice selection of pipe organs here. A 1989 Flentrop and 1981 Casavant at Holy Name Catholic Cathedral. A 1925 Skinner at the University of Chicago Rockefeller Chapel. And the largest pipe organ in the city, a massive 2015 Quimby at the 4th. Presbyterian Church. My civic pride couldn't resist, I wanted to tempt you to come and play here). From Chicago, U.S.A.

That Doppelfloete! 😍 I've noticed that stopped Doppelfloete stops usually sound very much like Rohrfloete stops, emphasizing the 1-3/5' harmonic, and this one seems to do just that. It would be interesting to hear the Doppelfloete and Rohrfloete (down an octave) back-to-back for comparison.

This is a lovely demonstration of what seems to be an amazingly flexible, well-designed and voiced organ. Thank you, Balint.

It was easily more than 350 people, the most I've ever seen at that Sunday afternoon organ concert series. Great concert!

I have listened to your recitals and demonstrations for a couple of years now and have never been disappointed. I have to say you surpassed yourself this evening - here is a very happy organist in heaven. If I could move from music to painting - you were like a Monet with his palette of colours wandering through his garden at Giverny and capturing the colour and reflection of the lilies! This is not a large instrument but its economy works to its advantage - plus it has three graces, a sympathetic acoustic, a fine case and a superbly voiced stops. One of the the joys was the little excursus about Vox Humanas - it became clear immediately as you played with and without support. I was reminded of a Victorian builder's comment about the 1780 Byfield organ in the church where I grew up in England. He knew the Vox Humana had been replaced with a Cremona because it was rarely in tune and of a disagreeable tone. He then singled out a beautiful metal flute 4' as the best stop on the organ. had you been there, you could have advised!! I was delighted the Hammond repair man failed to appear and you were able develop not just comparisons of sound and texture but give us examples of how best to use the registration available. The theme of the Old Hundredth running through connected this string of pearls and one almost feels we should let you lose on 100 variations. At the Coronation in May, I hope we hear it used for All PeopleThat on Earth Do Dwell - with the Ralph Vaughan Williams fanfare and introduction which never fails to wrong foot the congregation! So Bravo and Duke were very lucky to have you visit and play!

What a wonderful organ! There’s a great acoustic in the chapel and everything sings out nicely into the room. There’s also a wonderful variety of flues and reeds to choose from. Thanks for this great, as always, demonstration!

If you ever find yourself in North Carolina again, I can get you into First methodist Salisbury. It's not a mechanical instrument, but I can't even begin to tell you what an ear blast it is to play.

SO glad you posted. I hope you return to the area again, even to Winston-Salem where we have some really exciting instruments. The chapel was my refuge when I was there 1973-77. I don't really play, but messing around with the Aeolian was lots of fun.

Stunning organ and demo, as always! I don't mean to come across as too elitist, but what in the world is a Hammond organ doing in a venue like that? I like Hammond organs in their own right for what they can do well, but this seems like purely a high-church setting.
