My Dad was in the Air Force and bought a brand new '68 280S in Belgium while stationed in Germany. He brought it back to the states and it was the family car growing up and he was crazy proud of it, not having grown up with much himself. When he passed a few years ago my Mom gave the car to me. It had been parked, probably because of the dual carbs acting up again, and hasn't be driven in years. This video makes me want to do an engine swap and lightly hot rod it...a boy can dream...

The detail when cleaning the symbol of the best brand, is really sweet.
Spa 1971 yeah! When AMG was just a garage in Affalterbach. The 280 body style was so clean and loses those bumpers nicely. Most folks don’t realize the 3.5 model was actually a small V8.
You are wrong! Yes, it was a garage, but until 1976 it was in Großaspach, a even smaller village 10kms away from Affalterbach, hence the name AMG (Aufrecht, Melcher, Großaspach) = surnames of the two founders and the village name.
The only thing that really motivates me daily is the dream of having a collection one day

Cars are nice toys for boys and I love them, but it's maybe more easy to really enjoy them just virtual on a screen then to really own them. Once you start collecting cars, you soon realize that there always will be cars missing in the collection to be fully satisfied. So the desired satisfaction will stay an illusion. But maybe that's just me talking.

My father had a neat mildly modified silver 6.3 300Sel when I was little.
It was like riding in a space ship for a 4 year old.
One of the very few things we bonded over. Thank you for this story!!!

"Epic Custom build" with and perfect choice of intake system for that engine and trans choice to back it up. Well done and so cool result. Must be a real blast to drive for sure to take your mind and body back to an epic time in AMG's racing history. Reminds me of the Sauber C8-Group C mid 80's when the mighty V8 gutteral sound dominated. Far better than modern day F1 racing - wish they would go back to that class

That's a verry good tribute to the AMG cars, which were running in endurance races back in the day, when Hans Werner Aufrecht started his business.
I love the behind of the car
My first car was a 280SE 4.5 in 1993. She was also silver. I ran her hard, but took well care of her. I even dragged raced her at Brotherhood Raceway Park on Terminal Island. For 5,000+ lbs, she ran low 17's. I wish I kept her and turned her into a kleines Schweinchen.

Way to short my man, love the idea of recreating that beast of a car, I've owned 3 280sel's with the 3.5ltr, still have one today, I've also got a Grosser that needs a lot of work, I'd never undertake a conversion though,

very cool. i think there are several ways of building a car like this. the original 6.3 is not that easy to come by and they are not cheap. The 6.9 liter from the 450SEL from the 70s would be an option, but i think the M120 V12 should be an interesting sounding and affordable option? could sound like a pagani zonda :)

Obviously this car has no race history. So another W109 was sacrificed for this disgusting restomod abuse. Very, very sad, there are not so many left.

I think thats not only one, some people built a same car like the original!
@@r.blacky341 He is talking about the original one. It was used as a test rig for tyre development. Mercedes-AMG have since made a replica of it themselves. The original one is lost to history as far as i know.

I still have to get used to the drivers look - but the rest of it - legendary. Beside the fact that I do not get to know what exactly the technical data of all of this is. For sure not the identical engine the 'Rote Sau' once had - so a little bit more information on this might be practical ...

My favourite Mercedes is the W108 and this one is the heavy metal version !! could someone expect that it was possible? AMG made it !! If I had to choose one day to rest with one car til my end day, sure, it would be THIS ONE...

Typically people just custom make metal mounts and place two vintage stopwatches in them. That’s what they did back in the day, one for race time and one for split times

This is about AMG not Mercedes-Benz. AMG only became part of the conglomerate in the late 90s. They were independent for more than 30 years.

Mercedes has watered down AMG and in general MB itself is going the wrong direction. That 3 pointed star that once symbolized automotive supremacy has been fading for some time now
