Finally I found a book vs the show video on Dark Matter. It's been 8 years since read the book so it's good to have a refresher course on what's new and what isn't.
Yeah so much new in the show! In the final video I'll pick which I like best but as of right now I would say I am liking the show even more than the book.
@@WhytheBookWins I do hope that the very end is different in who he chooses to make the decision for the family. I'm not sure the 15 year old son was the best choice, or at least the book didn't explain why it was.
Why is no one mentioning that in Episode 6 we actually see a third iteration of Jason and Amanda in the hotel room scene during the last 15 minutes of the show? The show has established that every time we hear a SNAP, followed by a cut to a new scene, we are transitioning to either Jason 1 or Jason 2. However, in Episode 6, we see Jason 1 with Amanda (from Jason 2’s universe) resting just outside the box, where Amanda mentions “Not your world?” followed by “We are almost out of ampules.” Then, we hear a SNAP! The scene cuts to an exterior shot of a nighttime street, followed by an interior hotel room shot where we see Jason and Amanda walk in through the door. However, this is not the same Jason 1 and Amanda that we just watched in the previous scene sitting in front of the box. Remember, the SNAP has established that every time it’s heard we are cutting to another Jason. Previously it was either Jason 1 or Jason 2, but it couldn't be either of them in this context. The last hotel room scene in Episode 6 scene implies that we are witnessing a Jason and Amanda 3! The concept of infinite possibilities, as mentioned in the show, is now visually represented with another set of Jason and Amanda, performing nearly identical actions as Jason 1 and Amanda did earlier in the same episode.
Also, I love the differences between the book and the show; especially the Daniela stuff. One of the things that was difficult to wrap my arms around when reading the book, no matter how compelling and exciting I did find it, was the suspension of belief needed to allow that smart people could be so obtuse and blind in their interpersonal and scientific observations. That said, I would also suggest that - given his purposeful and dark mindset - it’s possible that this Jason2 is an amalgam of several of the other darker Jason’s from the book, yes? That’s what it feels like. Thanks for the great content.
Yeah my first time reading the book I couldn't put it down! The second time through wasn't quite as engaging though since I knew how it ended. Glad you like my videos 😃
I’ve watched all the reviews that have posted, and I’m really stunned that nobody saw Leighton on the dance floor when Amanda and Jason were (attempting) dancing together. Have a look…
I think they do want to have a second season, but I had assumed season one would have the whole book and season two would be doing its own thing. I hope the book is not dragged out into a season 2! But if there is a season 2, I wonder if season 1 will still be the same ending as the book...
@@WhytheBookWinsAs far as I’m aware it’s going to be a limited series; in Crouch’s former show Wayward Pines, the first season covered the trilogy, and the second season was original plot lines and went off the rails.
I am enjoying this show so far. I haven't read the book, but I am very interested in reading it now! Also, I am going to go see Furiosa for the second time tomorrow 😊
As a Show only fan, .. 9 episodes ... would be perfect ... if they have Jason 1 figuring out time travel and fixes everything starting with Jason 2's apparent timeline. fanfic
I read the book and forgot a lot. I was wondering with the addition of the other son why he couldn’t write the remembrance tree and go back there. Other than that I like the book. So glad I found a comparison video so I don’t have to go back and re-read.
I’m really tripping on the show. The remembrance tree. “You don’t talk like one”. He’s in the world and thinks it makes him who he is but no. Ohhh same author screenplay. Nice. So one can’t enter another world except for observing. But it took a lot of practice by Jason2. But now there are multiple drug sources. But is box workable just by heavyness? Must see more.
I would be curious what you think of the book! Part of me thinks that someone who has already watched the show wouldn't find the book as interesting tbh. That's not to say the book isn't good, but my second time reading it wasn't as good as my first time through because I already knew what would happen.
I really like this series. I’ve been thinking of reading the book, but I don’t want the book to make it so that it ruins some of the stuff in the series so that I would know what’s gonna happen. It sounds like from what you’re saying that the book is different from the series but still the same is that true?
The show has everything from the book pretty much, along with their own additions which makes me like the show better. So as of right now, I would recommend just sticking with the show honestly. Once the series ends maybe I'll feel differently though but we'll see.
The book is a fun, fast read that's mostly about Jason and traveling between worlds. The show gives Jason 2 and Leighton a lot more to do. Them meeting up and entering into a deal doesn't happen in the book. I'd hold off on the book rn especially because act 3 is coming up.
If anyone could explain to me, like I’m 5, how is the box physically available in Jason’s 1 world. Like, Jason 1 hasn’t built it yet. I’d understand if it was like a portal that opens and closes but the box is a physical object that just appeared in the middle of a warehouse.
Blake crouch says he wanted to extend & improve on the book, still the best adaptation of a book I’ve seen! It’s a fun show! 😎😎😎👍👍
Oh cool! Yeah I'm loving what he is doing with the show 😃

Me too. My dad and I read the book together 8 years ago and loved it so its fun watching the show with him.
I didn't know Blake Crouch was making the changes. I'm enjoying the differences so far, it keeps the story surprising for book readers.
Totally agree!

Science fiction really isn’t my thing but I’m happy to see Joel Egerton in this so I might give it a go
It is scifi but grounded in reality so I think you may like it!

Oooooh, I love this observation! The book just follows Jason 1 so I hadn't considered the show might be showing us other versions of Jason and Amanda.
Great content! Thank you

Definitely! And that's true Jason2 could be a combination of Jasons...I hadn't considered that. Thanks for commenting!
I loved the book I remember that I have finished it in a couple of days .. and the adaptation is wonderful ..
Loved your videos ❤

Oh yeah I did notice that! I meant to touch on that scene as well as later in the hotel room.
I'm starting to wonder if the TV show will be more than one season.

It definitely does seem like it will have a second season, it has really great reviews. Also I’m not sure how many episodes season 1 will have…

I’m becoming a fan, I think I may get the book. I usually don’t buy science fiction book usually it’s about history etc but I’m considering it

I think once a door is opened on a world, that automatically makes a version of the box appear in that world.
It appears whenever the traveler opens it from the inside
