- The 28BYJ-48 Stepper Motor along with the ULN2003 Darlington Array driver board are a popular and inexpensive way to integrate stepper motors into your Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or any other microcontroller projects. In this video, I take apart one of these motors to better understand how they work.
You can see a detailed explanation of how these motors work, and how to drive them here: aka.ms/28byj-48
Love it. I was having issues with an Elegoo kit that contains the 28BYJ-48 and ULN2003, and it doesn't work. I actually have a 1986 bachelors degree in Microelectronics & Computing, but have never played with Arduino or steppers until last week.
Your video helped me to go back to first principles (without destroying my only 28BYJ-48), and to write a simple driver for Elegoo's Arduino Uno clone that worked first time.
I've seen quite a lot of misunderstanding about the 28BYJ-48 online. Some people say it has a 32x gearing, others 64x. I think they are mistaking full and half step modes - which given the misinformation in the Elegoo kit and in other places, is quite understandable.
Using your video and my half-step code, I indeed, got 64x 64 steps per revolution. Confusion over!
very well ( explanation of each part , Video length optimization , camera quality and sound level quality)
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Many thanks, just saved me one motor and made me more intelligent than yesterday.
Thank you very much! Finally someone who says "a real answer" for why the 28BYJ-48 have 11.25 ° per step! Not data sheet or other sites. thank you!
Very well explained and no unnecessary "funny" comments. Thank you very much.
Great job to learn how basic stepper is made and works.
Outstandingly useful.
i like these teardowns - get to see how it wassolved - without the problems then can adapt to what required . I made one of my 28 ################### with seperate center tap -
great video! really helpful
you made my job easy thank you so much. initially I thought there is a brushed DC motor that could lead to lesser life
really thankful for those video you made!! it's helpful and easy to understand!
nice!
No flyback diodes?
I was probing this motor pins today but didn't see the expected inductive spikes when current is interrupted.
how its Backslash will effect if you wanna build 3d printer or cnc router?
hallelujah! now i get it. thank you.
If you push/pull on the brass shaft is there much lateral play? Mine seems to have some play.
10/10 THANK YOU SO MUCH
I'd love to see the robots that make these! $1 each. Must be a massive robotic setup.
Great video. Thanks 👍
Thanks for informative video.
Thanks for the vid! How would you go about connecting the magnet rotor directly to the output shaft? (removing the gearing completely) I would love to give up the torque for higher speed...
Actually, I guess maybe you could slice away the gearing half of the motor and just use that intial shaft as the output shaft?
I've got a similar looking stepper, but the back says 6v 10ohms part number 20BYJ01-160HR.. it didn't come with a driver, but the ones I have, all have a trim pot to adjust the vref until it corresponds to the maximum current you want to drive. But I can't find any datasheet on the motor, so how do you know how much current it can take? Or without opening, the number of steps per revolution? And what happens if I apply 8v-24v instead of the 6v?
Can i use these type of stepper motor for making Arduino mini cnc machine ?
Sure, here's an example from "Mr Innovative": ua-cam.com/video/-iNXNHksqpM/v-deo.html
Just search for 28byj-48 CNC and you'll see other examples as well.
Great video, answered everything I was wanting to disassemble and look at. Curious about the rumors of steppers getting deteriorated by being disassembled, one video debunked it for hybrid steppers, same apply here?
Bret, How does a set of teeth get associated with (polarized by?) a particular coil, and not by any of the other coils? BTW, Excellent tutorial, thank you
Sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Wesson Martin instablaster =)
@Paul Dawson Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Paul Dawson It worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
@Wesson Martin you are welcome xD
Please help to create source code for 2 x stepper motor 28byj-48 with mpu6050. I have no idea the algoritm between the degree mpu and degree motor sync.
i kinda confused for this stepper motor category, is it hybrid or Permanent Magnet stepper motor ?
Do you know if there is a 2 phase version of this?
Hi I saw this video and I was wondering where did you get the motor? I found one but it has 5 cords instead of the 4 cords which I need to replace.
It SHOULD have five wires coming out of it. The Blue and Yellow wires are the ends of one coil, and the Pink and Orange wires are the ends of the second coil. The red wires is the center tap that attaches to the center of each coil. You can watch my follow up video to this where I explain what the wires are, and how to use them: ua-cam.com/video/B86nqDRskVU/v-deo.html
Can you tell me from whereIi can have some sort of gear that would fit on that shaft please ?
Has anyone tried to replace the shaft in one of these?
Nice video, cheers.
How come the coils are parallel to the motor shaft!?
Thanks a lot! finally, i found a textbook is wrong.
can we drive 2 dc motors with these instead of a stepper motor
How much torque can it deliver?? Can I use it to make a 2D plotter??
a lot. yeah, way more than enough for that.
THANKS
thanks u verry much
