Grog being the one to speak on patience is interesting to me. If there is a class in D&D that can truly encompass the balance of emotions it is not the monk, but the barbarian. Being able to channel their rage when necessary instead of letting it fly freely is one of their major strengths and Grog knows this.

When Keyleth turned to Grog for help was beautiful honestly, she had a right to be mad and learning from the rage master herself how to control it better was incredibly helpful and I loved the interaction. I was really happy that Beau and Fjord were so much more closer, seeing them interact is wholesome.
Yes. Vs Raishan was where Keyleth REALLY grew up. Which made raishans demise that much more emotionally satisfying because she'd been waiting for that moment
Jakira Kumahata Scanlan (in battle): Grog, don't you want to rage? Grog: Hold on! I'm measuring the distance from the enemy and wind resistance for maximal movement towards them.
My friend did something like that in his campaign. There was a formula for a potion that tapped into the whims of fate; Upon drinking it, the characters stat numbers get randomly reassigned and their class gets rerolled. Drinking another potion would reset them. The party's Wizard used his high Int to tinker with the formula and eventually figured out how to control it, and created a potion that would set his rolls and class to a pretty ideally statted out Barbarian. He'd then hot swap between Barbarian and Wizard as needed, though he accidentally downed himself once by going back to Wizard when his hit points were low enough that the loss in Constitution KO'd him.
Expendables 2 has the perfect line to describe Grog and to a lesser extent, Vox Machina. “We keep it light until it’s time to go dark... then we go pitch black.”
Grog may not have been one to RP often, but in his moments, he shined the brightest for sure. Between this and the “Fix him!” scenes really shows quality over quantity.
Coming back after Campaign 3 Episode 66, where we get to see that Keyleth remembered Grog's advice and is now passing it on to someone else who needs guidance.
We didn’t get many Keyleth and Grog moments but the moments we did were great. I always imagine when Keyleth gets to the anger part of grieving, Grog is there to help her have an outlet for it.
Yeah I kind of felt like transcribing it so I transcribed it. Keyleth: How do you do it? Grog: Do what? Keyleth: You're able to utilize your rage when necessary. How do you keep it suppressed when it's not needed? Grog: Ah. A good question. Keyleth: Please enlighten me, Professor Grog. Grog: Right, it all comes down to one word, really. Keyleth: Yeah? Grog: Family. Right, before I was a part of this group, I had no family. Pike took me in, I met all of you, and I had a purpose. Keyleth: Yeah. Grog: So before that, like, I would be down to fuck anything up at any time, no problem. Keyleth: Sure. Grog: I still kind of am. Keyleth: Yeah. Grog: But! I realized that if I fly off the handle too soon, it screws over my family. And that's no good... because I care about you. Most of you. So for me, you're gonna get yours. It's coming. And I'm gonna help you, and I'm gonna high five you when it's done. But until then, you keep that shit tucked inside. Let it build. And then, when the time is right, you let her have it, and I throw you into the fray... when the time is right. Keyleth: Promise? Grog: Yeah. I promise. Keyleth: Deal! .... Grog: But listen, if at any time, it gets to be too much, you just go. We got you. Keyleth: Okay. I don't want to let you guys down. Keyleth/Grog: I won't. / You won't.
TheRealDerohneNick i agree. having a low intelligence score and a 'decent' wisdom score creates moments like these, where instead of being booksmart (the reading scene was priceless), he can learn life values like the strength of his family
I love this scene for several reasons: if taken out of context this looks like an old vampire teaching his fledgling how to control her blood-lust. This, I think, is the only real interaction between Grog and Keyleth, or as I like to call them, the Godparents of Vox Machina. And of course, its just a really sweet scene between 2 comrades. side note: 200th comment :)
I love this moment. Keyleth is supposed to be turning into some Ashari leader but how the hell is she going to lead being so emotionally high strung, impulsive, insecure and awkward? The story of Vox Machina is like the story of where she learned how to be a leader. Because they all are broken ppl who have huge failings but together, they work like a single well oiled machine. Keyleth won't have VM by her side her whole life, so she'll have to learn from them and start applying those lessons now, so that she can become something more than she is now.
Sadly, I feel like Keyleth never finished that development. Yes, her epilogue essentially says that she does but it's an informed ability at that point. Grog developed his character a lot more with a lot less time.
Why are people upset about Keyleth/Marisha being upset and angry with Raishan. This is the very dragon that allowed Thordak to run free, killed a quarter of Kiki's people, killed hundreds in the attack of Emon and probably thousands more other times. I'd be snappy as all hell with that bitch too and at least she's trying to learn how to better control her emotions through the guidance of her friend. Gods forbid she tries to better herself or have any kind of character development.
It's Keyleth. The half-elves as a general rule kind of all had slower, more drawn out character development, but Keyleth had it most of all. With nearly every other character, you can point to a moment that was a definitive turning point, after which the character changed their behavior. Keyleth... didn't really have that. You can definitely, 100% see a difference between her from episode one and, say, this episode that the clip comes from (and anyone who says otherwise is talking bullshit), but it's a much slower process. Hers was a storyline with multiple smaller turning points, her journey ending with subtlety and solemnity. Over time, she's honestly become my favorite character. At first out of spite but later, like Vax, because of the wonderful storyline the player and DM created for this character.
@@ladyofrillwater I may be so bold as to say that if you were to write the Story of Vox Machina into books (Or a TV series). It'd be the story of Keyleth. Sure, Each Arc has a focus on the other characters but due to Keyleth's slow growth and admittedly milquetoast character. She'd be a perfect focal point.
The problem I personally have: She is completely off the rails in her interactions with Raishan. Yes, tgat Dragon did all those terrible things, so much more of a reason NOT to antagonize her. 1v1 Raishan could murder Kiki like it was nothing. So what is so frustrating is that she is speaking completely out of bounds and potentially puts her friends and all of Whitestone in mortal danger, all because she has the foresight of a teenage brat.
@@draochvar9646 "1v1 Raishan could murder Kiki like it was nothing. You can't provoke someone that you're asking for help and then get mad at them for being provoked. Raishan had already established that she was asking for help to defeat Thordak, and that her very offer shows why she isn't killing them. Keyleth threatning Raishan doesn't change the fact that Thordak is still the bigger threat, and that no matter how insulted Raishan is by Keyleth's rant, she can wait until after Thordak is killed before getting her revenge for Keyleth "speaking out of bounds". Raishan isn't a primal beast, she's intelligent, her alliance with VM was always strategic and puny humans speaking out of line isn't going to put her in such a rage that she'd kill Keyleth and ruin a huge opportunity to kill Thordak.
