    Hey great DIY videos, ive got a 12ft sit in kayak myself and always do my own fishing mods, its a lot cheaper than buying everything from the shops. One question though, when your anchors not being used, do you wrap your entire anchor line around this cleat? Or just tie off the end of the line to the cleat and keep the rest of it in the storage area? Or do you store the line and anchor in a separate area and only use the cleat when you need to? Also whats the size anchor you use...i was hoping to get a 3lb but the shops here only have the 1.5lb. Thanks!

      WhatUpDoe1000 first I’d like to say thank you for watching and commenting I appreciate it. Now as far as my anchor goes I use a 5lbs metal weight from a weightlifting bar. Is round so doesn’t get caught up on anything. Plus it actually has kept me from moving. Now I only have it out if I’m using it, when I’m not it’s either in a storage bag or coiled up neatly in the yak till the next spot. I tie and retie around the clear as needed. Have you seen my anchor trolley system vid for this yak? At the end it explains a bit how the cleat works with the Anchor Trolley system.

      Fishing POV Haha i guess we think alike, i was using two round 5 lb plates as well. The problem is we have some soft sandy bottoms in the local lakes and the plates dont really grip the bottom, they just slowly drag along if there is a breeze. So i bought a proper grappling anchor which will hopefully work better in some current/wind. And yea i saw your anchor trolley video, ill be building one myself the same way. Just looking for pad eyes and thin paracord (hard to find stuff in small town Canada with no hardware stores around). Oh and heres something else i use...small strong magnets superglued to the kayak..great for holding lures or fishing pliers. Im on a budget so always looking for DIY mods! Cheers

      WhatUpDoe1000 I like that magnet idea that’s pretty cool. I take it back it’s a single 10lbs weight not 5lbs and so far I’ve not had many issues but the vegetation helps keep it in place a bit. There should be a few links in the video descriptions for places you can get that stuff pretty cheap. Never spell kayak backwards, ha! Or racecar.👍👍👍Awesome video!!! Thank you!!! Great idea using the awl to mark your holes, it made a nice "centerpunch" to start your drill. You gave it your "awl" making this vid!!!

    I just installed mine with 2 1 1/2 screws. I used liquid nails clear silicone seems to work bad ass. Yes cleat will very slightly move as long as you don't crank on it will be fine for an anchor. This is just my experience. Fyi it's a sit on top

    For me, the actual install part is not an issue. However I have a question that might be dumb... I noticed that you installed your cleat at an angle. All of my big boats in the past have had cleats installed longways, running lengthwise. My question is, is it a major sin to install them running the direction with the beam of the yak and not length? Is there some sort of holding power that might be minimized if I do it lengthwise?

    • @FishingPOV
      @FishingPOV  2 роки тому +1

      Not a sin at all, it’s personal preference since for the most part it’s only being used for an anchor and in some cases is attached to a trolley system so it’s technically just to hold the rope and keep it close so it’s manageable. Thanks for watching.

    So, I'm guessing by where you placed the cleat, you won't be using ome of the "closure skirts" or diaphrams that keep water out.
