- As part of the Thameslink Upgrade Programme, Platforms 1-5 at London Bridge reopened today, along with new entrances on the Tooley Street side of the station.
That nice man Chris who took me up in a helicopter last week, showed me around!
Music by David Cutter: davidcuttermus...
That Network Rail geezer knows his stuff. What a boss!
No he doesn’t as the arches are the originals and not new. And it’s St Thomas St not St Thomas’ St.
No one I know says Tesco or Asda where I'm from. It's always Tescos and Asdas. I reckon he's done the same with this name.
@@rudimental8917 Everys littles helps
@@smilieevie6998 no they arnt new or old they are referbished and modified at the bottom and stop picking on the guy for his speech defect
I know im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost the login password. I love any assistance you can offer me.
Chris is brilliant, I want to spend a day being toured around London stations by him!
Aye, he's a grand lad...
Yep. Totally agree
A Week
count me in
I worked on this project from the start when it still had the old train shed roof..it is an amazing transformation..I was night shift for the whole project..blood sweat and tears went into this and some good laughs👍👍👍
Thanks for improving London Bridge Station. Using London Bridge used to suck so much. It's a lot easier now.
I like it a lot :) "modern" done right. I like the wooden ceiling panels. the corridor or arches looks super cool. The outside looks good at night time. Plus it hasn't completely demolished all of the old bits. Its still got a nice architectural balance of old and new where they work well together. This looks like how the 60's rebuild of Euston Station SHOULD have been. Blend the old with the new seamlessly.
Great video Geoff, brilliant!! As a retired BR/Southeastern driver I visited London Bridge Station recently after 5 years away and it blew my mind. It was totally unrecognisable from the old days, it took me several minutes to get my bearings, but it is world class and a credit to the developers.
Wooks Londerful, Geoff! Network Rail should be proud of the work they've done over the years!
Corey Reid Isn’t He now Meoff Garshall?
I hate that Retwork Nail don't get the credit they deserve
Totally agree - it's been a fantastic achievement to keep the trains going while the work has been carried out, and the result looks very impressive.
Wooks londerful
Wondon Bridge station really is Londerful.
Chris is a great sidekick.
Maybe a Geoff and Chris Network Rail show in 2018, where its just more of this? :)
Mac·au that would be great 👌
I was going to suggest he may have to have "platform" shoes, but maybe a Segway?
They should do a "Least Used" county video together. You can just feel their geeky train enthusiasm!
Chris knows his stuff backwards and forwards. Let's have more Chris.
What a beautiful building. Good passion from Chris too you can tell he loves his job
I had the pleasure of driving the last train out of Cannon St in December which didn't call at LBG. They've done an amazing job with the rebuild, so well done to all involved.
Very beautiful. Good to see the War Memorial has been preserved and been given a proper place in the station.
'Brondon Lidge Station' - delightful improvisation from Geoff and Chris, turning a slip of the tongue into a feature of the video. 'If you see something that doesn't look right' (from the station announcer) - Chris points at Geoff. Laugh-out-loud stuff - and informative with it. Vloggers at the top of their game . . .
Love the video Geoff. We need more videos with Chris in. His knowledge and enthusiasm really adds to the videos he's been in and you both have a great on screen chemistry.
Such a beautiful new station! Thanks for the tour, Chris... it's a place to be proud of.
Have to say the presentation is super , a lovely station .
the wooden ceiling is gorgeous. and Chris is so knowledgeable, include him on more shows.
A really enjoyable watch. Great dynamic between you and Chris too which made it all the more interesting. Always good to get people who know their topic too.
More please.
Chris is great - a great representative for Network Rail.
ha ha cool. Could talk trains with that chris fella for hours. Love the enthusiasm and knowledge
Best thing I saw about London Bridge today! Thanks Geoff and Chris, great showcase of an amazing station.
The arched hall is bloody gorgeous. I'm going to walk in wearing a Hogwarts gown and just spend the day waving a stick.
This architecture is certainly on par with the quality and aesthetics of the old victorian station designs...
I think a graphic showing how the station has changed from 1836 to 2018 would make an interesting video.
St. Pancras is based on restoring as much of the old as possible, with the new accenting parts; London Bridge is a re-build, a brand new station building and platforms, with some old parts retained. Very different.
The longest pause after "I've got glasses, get over it..." hahaha ;)
They look great
I remember London Bridge Station from decades ago,
when I commuted in daily from Brighton.
My recollection is that there often seemed to be building
work going on, with hoardings and scaffold etc, somewhere or other?
Essentially, they seem to have hollowed-out beneath
the platforms, which are now suspended above your head in a light, airy and
cavernous space.
And they’ve incorporated many other great features
too.
This is truly impressive.
I'm liking London Bridge Airport.
😅 Mee too
My flat is by this station! So glad I can roam around the new station and walk along a reopened Tooley street once I’m back from myholiday
that war memorial is a nice touch.
Gorgeous station!
Looks so much more modern i like it
Great station, great video (as usual). Chris is also very entertaining.
What an amazingly knowledgeable person Chris is. A star for the railways.
Most interesting, I have been watching the progress on and off over the years and it looks great now it is finally open. Chris seems very knowledgable and compliments Geoff well in presentation terms.
During the division of Berlin, there was a duty-free shop at the Friedrichstraße station, in the “international” portion.
London Bridge is one of my most use stations because of my orthodontist; so I am going to enjoy seeing when I go again
As a daily commuter from King's Cross, it does annoy me how St. Pancras toilets are free but King's Cross is 30p. However, I have found that most of the time, staff are cleaning one of the two toilets and therefore the barriers are open at one of the toilets. It may just be that I am lucky.
But I can't wait to visit London Bridge soon, happy new year Geoff!
you can walk to st pancras and back. or patiently wait until your intercity train comes.
Sneeky (top) tip. Head upstairs to the Parcelshed pub where there are free toilets. Like you, I hate paying to do nature's bidding!
Enjoyed watching that - I used to work with Chris. I suspect that what he doesn't know about that station isn't worth knowing.
Wonderful station, walked through the building when the work was underway, so very good to see it done. Chris a knowledgeable and informative guy. Hopefully the regular users will appreciate all the work done, as someone who doesn't live in London very envious of the new investment.
I actually think the glasses look pretty cool on you Geoff! Season's Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa!
Love the video, and the glasses! Chris is fantastic, you both make a brilliant double-act, more please!
Geoff rockin' those glasses like the Tenth Doctor and his "Brainy-Specs".
Never been to London Bridge - now with Thameslink I can get there from Cambridge :) next time I'm in London I will!
Wow, London Bridge looks mightily impressive.
We like Chris, he's fun! (Can you let him talk a bit though without rushing him?!)
We've had the pain; now the gain! Amazing station. Can't wait to get a TL train from the ECML down to Brighton via LB.
What a huge and beautiful station. .as someone says.it looks like an airport. .excellent achievement.
This is a really helpful and informative video, I feel as though I know my way a little around the new station now. Great double act too!
The War Memorial is a very nice touch. Much credit to whoever got it so 'right'.
latimeralder1 Totally agree....it's beautiful
i was one of the workers who did a lot of the stainless steel work ,, also the booms over the entry machines ,,, glad to see it all in place
All these videos you are doing are saving me money in that I do not have visit them, however I will still go. I used to use the Tooley Street overbridge every day for while, which I assume has now been coverted to some sort of emergnecy exit. That area used to be intersting in the peek coming down the ramps trying not slip if it was wet and then get across the bridge to exit the station. Still overall I am really impressed with the work NR and their partners have done. I think it will many awards in the next few years which will be rightly deseverd.
Last time I was there (November) the Tooley Street overbridge was open, you can take the escalator up to the bridge and it takes you to the upper level of the station. No longer does it access the through platforms but you can get to the terminating platforms
The station looks brilliant!
As does the glasses!
Geoff, to answer your question about the KX/STP toilets - essentially the KX NR side is operated and managed by Network Rail who decided to charge for their toilets, St Pancras is owned by LCR and operated by Network Rail (High Speed) Ltd, who decided to have free facilities (though talks are in place to charge there too, as the toilets are being misused!)
The arch walkway has a Thames tunnel feel to it. It’s stunning
It looks grand, I didn't know how it look before, ya the little guy in the orange jacket ,
I like the station very nice good video
New London Bridge station looks amazing! I was in Senate House Library today - if only my uni hadn't been closed today I could've bumped into you guys en route.
Can't wait to take the Platform 1 train to New Cross again!
Crows feet! They have always been called the Arrows of Indecision.
Stunning, I love the columns.
Another London station to now be proud of. I hope they've made it Millwall proof.
Almost 6 years since the works began and it has truly paid, however Thameslink trains will come to those who wait. You'll have to do a video when platforms 4 & 5 open Geoff.
In May
Thanks for the update. I left London 8 years ago. Did not even know they was upgrading this station. This was my local station to travel to work every day. They have done a great job. Just hope the trains run on time now =)
I had lived outside England during the main revamp and it was a shock to see the amount of work done to the station. It feels like an airport imho
Spectacular station., the transformation compared to the old one is amazing.
Looks great.
The glasses suit you, Geoff! LBG isn't too shabby either :)
LOVED THE NEW STATION TODAY, SO EXITED THAT NOW I HAVE THE OPTION TO CHOOSE BETWEEN CHARING X AND CANNON STREET TRAINS
p Odunlami thanks
Happy new year to all fellow Geoff fans, and to you Geoff of course. Love the glasses.
I used to go through London Bridge every day to work from Gravesend to West Norwood. It was grotty and reminded me of the old Manchester Piccadilly. Looks really nice now! :)
Forgot to ask - can you still see the V2 rocket from the new platform 1?
Very beautiful building design and very beautiful architecture design, more good space rooms, I like old building Victoria building with arch
I was at London bridge around 2pm and got a free tea from Pret
My god Geoff my mind is blown. I haven't been there for a few months now. Its just been construction site for so long wooow, looks great finally done!
Perfect - how lucky you met up with Chris.
Chris is amazing, how does he remember all that!
And the glasses suit you sir.
I love Queerly Rick tours.
It's my favourite type of tour a Queerly Rick tour
Im not even into trains but Geoff just makes it so interesting to watch,
Lovely station
Excellent free toilet knowledge 👍
It looks impressive! The only thing I don't like about the new station is the redevelopment resulted in the closure of one of my favourite London tourist attractions, The Blitz Experience. I did so hope they would find another location, but alas they seem to be gone forever.
You make informative fun. Chris you were a great addition, too
That "if you see something that doesn't look right" Message was really charismatic :D
Brilliant station. Fantastic Design!
thank you for post , i wanted to know what it looked like but house bound now
That was great, and Chris seems utterly delightful!
amazing!
Love those glasses
wow so airy and open, I bet at peak it will be so much more pleasant
I find myself mouthing “see it, say it, SORTED” quite often
I can't wait for Thameslink to run through London Bridge again, it add's about 25 minutes to the Journey to go via Elephant & Castle.
If fortunate enough to not get signal checked at Tulse Hill or Herne Hill, then East Croydon to Blackfriars would actually take about the same amount of time, whether via London Bridge or Elephant and Castle. This is because although East Croydon to London Bridge is fast, previously getting to Blackfriars was very slow, with the single line track, etc, plus having to wait for a path into the old platform 6 at London Bridge. It will be quicker than before when through services resume however, due to the Bermondsey dive-under easing congestion south of London Bridge, and the upgraded layout with doubled track into Blackfriars.
You need more videos with Chris.
Thanks Geoff, very informative and wonderful commentary by Chris and yourself. BC
Nicely done! Thank God!
Looks great! Very open and airy
Great video, brilliant music and fun Spoonerisms! Who would ever click on 'I dislike this video???' Keep up the great work Geoff!
Finally, an interesting station!
Looks wonderful there and just in time too. Happy new year Geoff
I think it is a thing of beauty and am impressed how the station was kept functioning throughout. I am not a daily commuter but use the station quite a lot. Seems like a job very well done and a real success story
Chris knows his stuff plus great noise at 9:32
Me and some friends were coming up from Hastings in mid 2019 and had to get off here early (we were on our way to Waterloo East) for an emergency loo break. We're very glad we did, it's a gorgeous space and so open. We just jumped on the tube one whole stop to Waterloo to make our next train. With all the traveling around London we did that weekend this was the most stand out station. They did a great job maintaining a lot of the old while modernising it.
about the discussion of the best end of the train to be at when arriving at london bridge - in japan they have posters showing where the exits will be at stations further down the line. you don't have to be a regular commuter to learn the best place to be, you just check the poster. also when getting off the train the onboard LCD display shows the platform layout of the station you're about to arrive and the street exits, interchange exits etc. Their main stations also have the "airport" style concourse with lots of shops and concourse area on the ticketed side of the barrier.
What a great looking station - you have to give credit to those who ran the project and those who worked while us commuters where still using the station. Thanks for this video, its great.
Looks very good!
Ahh... Brondon Lidge Station. My favourite ❤. 😂🤣
