HS2: More Capacity, Cutting Carbon and Better Connectivity

Britain’s new low-carbon, high-speed railway, High Speed 2, is designed to address three key problems facing the nation:
Capacity - HS2 will add vital capacity to the existing rail network by placing high-speed services on their own pair of tracks, creating thousands of extra seats and space for more local, regional and freight services on the existing network.
Carbon - HS2 will be the low carbon alternative for long distance travel, reducing the need for car and domestic plane journeys, and play a vital role in delivering the Government’s goal of Britain becoming net zero carbon by 2050.
Connectivity - HS2 is the most important economic regeneration project in decades. Better connectivity will act as a catalyst for growth and help level up the country, boosting growth in the Midlands and North, creating new jobs and opening up leisure opportunities for millions of people.
