Mostly, I just don't have one handy right now, if you look at some of my older uploads they are done on a model 1, though. I do have a model 1 VA6 that needs some work that I might use eventually. The reason I haven't been in a big hurry to do this is I'm not quite sure how to go about recording a model 1 "authentically." There are a few considerations. The headphone jack results in a different, more distorted sound than the A/V port output. The A/V port output is mono only, and the common "stereo mod" isn't quite proper either since it lacks amplification altogether, meaning it's noisier than it should be. On top of all this, a Mega Amp'ed model 2 doesn't really sound all that different, except maybe on a small handful of games. Plus a lot of the games where the sound has appreciable differences (Streets of Rage) I have already recorded with a model 1. Also, my model 2 has great sound and video quality and takes up less room on the desk :)
Your girlfriend Twilght Sparkle Yeah, my earlier uploads are done with a "High Definition Graphics" VA3 but unfortunately that one did die on me. I never was able to really diagnose what was wrong with it. I still have it, though, maybe one of these days I'll figure it out.
***** I just might have to take you up on that. If you like I could maybe send you my dead board to play with? I will PM you if I decide to take you up on it.
and stage 3 is like a 7/4 where the lead synth in the mid-range plays exactly the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th beats, and then back to the 1st and 3rd of the next bar. Goddamn, so much musical richness
Stage 4 is an 8/4 that highlights the 1st and 3rd beat but then also the 6th and the 8th, which gives it such an amazing feeling of uneveness, like it's purposefully unbalanced
Wow, never even heard of this game until today. They really worked some audio magic on this soundtrack. I'm super late to the party as usual, but nevertheless, thanks for the great content!
This indeed was a wicked game. The music made it next level and in my opinion it's some of the best game music ever.. follows a theme through each level and is just awesome.
Unfortunately, the modern emphasis on voice acting in video games has really diminished the ability of soundtrack composers to swing for the fences on immersive and deep compositions. There's obvious influences from Prog rock and 80's metal all over the soundtracks of the 16-bit era, too bad we're probably never going back to this aesthetic.
@@ryanjacobson2508yeah... thats why I really don't like most modern games! They have lost a lot of charm, personality and creativity and it is getting worse it year..... The over the top focus on realism of moder games is very boring to me.
And the boss and the diminished main theme sounds like Larks Tongues in aspic leitmotivs (King Crimson), moreover stage 3 music has almost the main Level V (King Crimson) motif before Fripp made the song...
Whatever happened to the Sonic 1 (Genesis ver.) soundtrack? I could've sworn you did it, but it's not in your uploads anymore. Also, Bio-Hazard Battle's soundtrack is great. Stage 7 is cool.
I'm a Nintendo fan, but I have to give my praises to Sega as the kings of that dark, dank, twangy, crunchy, gritty sound. It pulls you into the game's bleak and alien world. Ever listen to the Streets of Rage soundtrack remade with modern instruments? Take away the Genesis harshness and it loses a lot of its punch.
that's the power of the YM2612 chip, FM synthesis on the Mega Drive had hugely expressive potential and creative restrictions in ways that the SNES audio subsystem, while actually hugely advanced for its time, had difficulties doing
This is Heavy, Deep, Intense... And at the same time, wonderful and soothing. It's impressive how this music is immersive and expands the "living organism" atmosphere of the game. So glad I could buy a copy, because It's one of the greatest Mega Drive games ever created.
The SNES basically used low-grade samples rather than true synthesis. So SNES audio is basically "second-hand"/second generation as opposed to the powerful native synthesis of the Genesis sound system. A good example of this the Mortal Kombat 1 soundtrack, on the Genesis it really has a percussive and tribal resonance while the SNES version sounds muffled and half-assed.
I am garbage at shmups but I have adored this game's OST for ~20 years. I used Winamp probaably about 10 years ago to turn the .vgm files into mp3. People are very confused by my econobox blasting SEGA music. The Genesis soundchip did bass well and that's about it, but that's what KNU wrote for here, I suppose.
lol I played the game so much as a kid and I swear on stage 2 there was that very weird beginning that almost sounded as if the game fps dropped. So fun to see how memory recalls every tiny bit of that soundtrack. Today I m a huge fan of Tool and I see why XD
Good soundtrack, solid shmup. This is one instance where the Westernization definitely improved the overall product. "Bio-Hazard Battle" may be slightly clunky and generic as a name, but it's more fitting than "Crying" and even the so-90's box art is way better than the non-sequitur and lazy original art. Thanks for recording this one!
Only complaint I have is that they got the ship completely wrong, it's supposed to be a biological "ship". But perhaps they figured it wouldn't sell well or confused people if the protagonist itself looked like a monster.
I played this on my old Genesis with my brother's back in the day and even after new consoles come out we routinely throw it back in, It's got such an original soundtrack you just have to experience it with all the crazy visuals
Got this game for my 8th birthday...one of the best gifts and games I ever received! The deep foreboding bass, and bizarre mix of digitized organic sounds is ethereal! This game truly has one of the most alien OST's to match it's equally outlandish atmosphere, and I couldn't love it more! The Stage 2 boss (also on the cover) is totally a cock and balls!
Incredible motiv development through the whole ost, i just love this. It fits perfectly with this game. My personal favourite is stage 3. So damn creepy!

Yeah, My model 1 genesis is a hog in my gaming space.
(even though I pray it never dies out)

This soundtrack is fun in my car with subwoofers.
Amen to this. Door card shaking wonderness
Straight up doinks in my '95 Volvo 940 amigo
Man, am I the only one who loves Stage 2's music? It's a 5/4 that repeats its initial bars 10 times before going to the theme, fucking mad man

@@MrWallow7 I never realized how complex this OST is. I didn't play this game much on the Sega Genesis Classics.
Yes, stage 2 in particular does not drop at the expected time very noticeably
It's hard to chose a favourite when every track is amazing
Dang, that boss theme, sounds like the apocalypse.
Whole thing is pretty apocalyptic. Probably a reflection of peoples environmental and health concerns at that time.
Dude that boss theme was no joke. Whenever it kicked it I felt like OH FUCK
This is one of the most original soundtracks of all time and the composer deserves some respect!
Another fantastic and underappreciated soundtrack! Thanks for posting!
Wow, never even heard of this game until today. They really worked some audio magic on this soundtrack. I'm super late to the party as usual, but nevertheless, thanks for the great content!
Pretty good game and the dark tone is what makes it even more great.
Not gonna lie this game freaked me out as a kid.
This indeed was a wicked game. The music made it next level and in my opinion it's some of the best game music ever.. follows a theme through each level and is just awesome.
This soundtrack is extremely sophisticated. Love how the main music phrase keeps emerging in different themes (see 7:01).

this game is so awesome. Absurd but brilliant shmup, fun for 2 players, SNES could never handle that action. like the ocean stage, so fitting
I used to play with the mosquito-like one (the gray one). Nice music and nice game TuT
17:24 Stage 7 sounds very Steve Reich Minimalist.

I did, I think it is blocked in some countries. Copyright claim crap.
Lemme guess, Sega of Europe? Those guys are dicks
Ну чо круто и все ☝️🤣🤣🤣🌝🌞😂
Kind of decent. Mid soundtrack other than Stage 7

Somehow even tribal.... those drums
This is one of my top five favorite games period. It's so good.
The Genesis had phenomenal audio capabilities. I much prefer it to the muted sound of the SNES.

The polyrhythms in Stage 1/8. Wow.

Sounds like YES or Rush composed some the music here, which is fvckin awesome! 🤘
Kenichiro Isoda composed this. He's an indie experimental musician that did a bunch of soundtracks for Sharp X68000 arcade ports.
@@Nathan-rb3qp woah, what a random piece of information. . interesting. Thanks! 🙏🎶
@@lvx_rose You're welcome.
I've finished this game way too many times...i love this game.
Reviews at the time said this game had a weak soundtrack. I thought they were crazy.
I still play this game just to listen to the soundtrack, same goes for thunder force 3, streets of rage 2, shinobi 3...
This is blowing my mind!!!! So once stage 1 hits, you just never hear 4/4 again😂😂😂 this sounds like Hermeto Pascoal
I used to play this all the time at my grandparents house. What a lovely game.
This is straight SUB WOOFER. One of my favorite side scrolling shooter games EVER. Vastly underrated.

I kinda like that soundtrack. And i like visual style of this game, it looks like biology book 😂
I got a Sega with 2 games; Sonic 1 and this "Nightmare", feeling nostalgy chills by hearing it.
Nice ones to start out with.

11:54 is just insane. The second you hear it you KNOW you gonna see some disturbing shit.
Reminds me of X-multiply. Not exactly the same sub-genre of music though, just in tone really.
I could never get past that snake monster on the cover :(
great! I heard the sound test a lot. lol
Was playing this last night and loved the audio. Had to seek it.
Cheers for the flac upload too
Hard as fuck !

who still remembers how you could "push" away the little pod by pressing arrows the opposite direction , and use it to destroy monsters? XD
The greatest soundtrack of all game time, I played the game to listen, classical 8 bit techno.
Piękna gra i muza 😎
Wow I really wanna play that soundtrack to my ears. This reminds me of a 90s sci-if horror movie I was in :).
Holy shit
Super się tego słucha po latach ♥️
The music was the primary reason I always played this amazing game
An amazing OST. Is there any fan remix or OC?
Thank you for the excellent work you do.
Wouldn't do it if I didn't love it!
An very early prototype of this game was uploaded to the internet by Modern Vintage Gamer.
Stage 4 is so epic, this OST was years ahead of everything else
Thank you so much! I didn't think this would even exist.

love the bass drum beats and the water bubbles
Just imagine this game in full 3D with AAA production values. Like Ace Combat but with monsters. Would be F~cking sick.
Best VG ost ever 😊
Nope
If you take requests, could you do Pulseman?
I wish this sound track was on Spotify

Hey great upload such a nostalgic spooky-ness to the soundtrack! Can you upload the Sound Test of this with only the effects of the game?
