My favorite "scene" is when Person was trying to push Larry around. The cold look on Larry's face showed that Person had -0- impact with the GOAT . Larry knew exactly what he was doing & how to come out on top no matter what the obstacles were.
One of the greatest, Larry had all the skill, offense, defense, assists, rebounds And all about making everyone better around him a true team player and leader. A three-time MVP!
Larry was a master of trash talking but the fact that he could back it up with blazing hot form spoke volumes about just how great a player he was 🏀👍😄🏀
I was a lucky kid to have been at many Celtics games in the Bird era. My brother and I still talk about it. The C's looked like factory workers and played like the Harlem Globetrotters. And Larry didn't just call the plays when they were up. He'd tell em' what he was gonna do with the game on the line. He talked to coaches and even the ref's. We were in the fifth row and a lot of times we could hear him. We knew we were watching something special. So did his opponents.
You describe everything required to be GOAT. There is none other than Larry Bird. That kind of talent derived from his mind set can *NOT* be duplicated.
Factory workers!! 😂😂😂 great description! The first game I saw on TV like 2 centuries ago was between a blue team vs a green team. I had no idea of basketball (I am from Mexico) and since green is my favourite color, celtics had a new fan. I wasnt aware that I was looking one great game between celtics vs pistons in Birds era. I will never forget that day. Larry and all the factory workers were my heroes and obviously they won that day!
Larry Bird was the most complete basketball player ever. EVER. He didn't have the graceful athleticism but he didn't need it. Tough as nails he did everything else on the court and was almost otherworldly. Unbelievable passer, shooter and rebounder. He talked trash but he backed it up. Bird also had the intangibles and the killer instinct and would destroy opponents and dominate in today's game. He was also one of the smartest players ever on the court and would be thinking 2 or 3 moves ahead. Bird is All-Time starting 5 forever.
@@N1120A One thing I noticed watching these older videos was that there was no such thing as an off balance shot for him. However contorted his position w as, the ball was always in an optimal position for a pure release. Heard another state that his ball handling was NBA point guard level.
This is the generation of basketball that I grew up watching and IMHO was the greatest era of the NBA, so many NBA legends and Hall of Famers played during the '80's and '90's. The Celtics/Lakers rivalry of the '80's is still one of greatest rivalries in sports history. 👍✌️
This is one of the reasons it was such a joy to watch Larry and the Celtics and magic with the "Showtime" Lakers in the eighties! Grateful to have been able to be witness to all that!
The reason Larry Bird was such a great trash talker was that he was the most intelligent player on the court. He was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. And he did it with no malice or anger or any resentment, it was pyschological warfare, and Larry Bird was master of it. Everyone knows about his success as a player, but let's not forget he was fantastic coach and executive as well. He is the only person in the history of the NBA to be named Rookie of the Year, NBA MVP (3 in a row), Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year with the Indiana Pacers organization. He was the single smartest person ever to play in the NBA. And all of this in an injury-shortened career, where he performed his magic in such a physical condition that he had to lie down next to the bench, in airline aisles and many other places because his back was so bad. He also sat out an entire year because of bone spur surgery on both feet. If he had played his career at the peak of health, who knows how many records he would have set. And though you cannot name a single GOAT in the NBA because of the difference in the different eras, Larry Bird could have played in any era, along with such greats as Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Jerry West, Oscar Roberston, Elgin Baylor and quite a few others. They would dominate in today's game, because it's no longer a team game, it's all about individual statistics. And 75% of today's players are not mature enough to handle tough AND smart players of their caliber.
Undisputed no.1 is when he promised Chuck Person, who was not playing, he was going to give him a Christmas present (it was apparently a Christmas night game) and after scoring went by the bench and told him "Merry fucking Christmas!"
There was this one player that was absolutely ripped, muscles head to toe, and Larry just walked up to him and said, "those muscles won't help you tonight." Every time Larry hit a shot on the guy, he would say, "muscles."
Magic wanted one thing And that was to be friends with Bird who wouldn’t have any of with it until they did that Nike commercial where Larry met Irvin and they became friends for life-two of the greatest and probably the greatest rivalry since the Stilt and Russell!
Isn’t it amazing how it’s often the quietest & most un-assuming people you meet are often the ones who can inflict the most damage on you mentally??? 🤪🤪🤪
I only have 1 favorite thing my entire life. Not food, drink, color, song, or movie. However, I been watching Larry since 1980. He's my only favorite. He holds all the credentials.

Worthy said "Jordan will make you look slow, but Bird would make you look stupid" in a 9-year run from 1980 to 1989, Larry Bird got 67% of all MVP votes that were cast. All other players combined only received 33% of the votes.
Bird had that 30-12-10-9 steals 2 blocks game--the near coveted quad-double in 1985, in 31 minutes in 3 quarters--they were beating the Jazz so bad he didn't bother coming out in the 4th quarter--don't ever call him a stat-padder. He dominated guys when he was a rookie, and even later on with a demolished back from '86 on until retirement in '93, bone spurs in both ankles in '89, and double achilles tendonitis. His game was most complete. Most people forgot he made multiple all-NBA Defensive 2nd Teams and even led the league in defensive win-shares one season--don't EVER say Bird can't play defense. He broke up more 2 on 1s and 3 on 1s on the break than anybody. He could beat you any which way. The REAL GOAT.
That " feel like 43 tonight story" was one steal away from a quadruple double, but wouldn't go back in to get it, "naw I've done enough damage tonight"
There’s a interview out there where Gary Payton tells a Larry bird story ! Proof Bird is the biggest trash talker in NBA history ! And Bird is the real GOAT !
Having been a Celts fan since the late 50s, I have had the privilege of watching many outstanding players, but Bird was on a totally different level when it came to clutch and passion. He earned the nickname Larry LEGEND every single time he stepped on the court.
Great video. Had a story I hadn't heard. Bird is the GOAT. Even if the opposite teams fans hated him you know good and well they were wondering what amazing play he was going to do next.
Wilkins was badass. I think the rest of the story that isn't shown here is that Bird did end up saying something like "I like you, rook. You got heart". Which apparently is about as complimentary as Bird ever got on the court.
Payton would talk to HIMSELF if there wasn't anybody there (true story). Even Payton says Bird talked more trash and better than him. Payton was just vicious with his stuff. He'd talk about you, your game, your momma, it didn't matter to him AT ALL!!!

Man, what’s crazy to me is these guys that Larry Legend punked were NBA superstars- Wilkins, Kemp, Clyde The Glide (one of my all-time favorites) and Bird had his way, anyway! I’ve heard multiple guys say that Larry told them exactly what he was going to do against them, and he always came through!
