gig970 In Sr Lanka, elephant tusks are displayed in Temples, in some major government and cultural institutions and sometimes in Hotels and even in houses. It's a traditional sign to show the pride of the Sri Lankan culture.
Mostly these tusks are not real, and they are made of wood. But sometimes once a tusker (elephant with tusks) is dead, they are cleaned, painted, designed and displayed mainly in temples. Usually tuskers participate the religious events of temples, so once they passed away, just the tusks are displayed in public as a respect to the tusker. Since very old days, elephants and tuskers have been participating the main religious events organized by the temples. Tuskers or elephants are never hurt and mostly they are treated more courteously than human beings in Sri Lanka.
