I like your video's. I just got a echo show 5. The bass, mid, & treble came all set to their lowest - settings. I moved all three to the midway point and it now sounds great!

Oh good to know there an equalizer like the Show 1 & 2. I'm returning my 1st Gen (3rd time) because of hardware issues with wireless or the display. So Amazon let me trade-in for the Show 5 plus a discount. Got worried about sound but I think I'll be happy
Thanks for the demo. I really like the sound of my Echo Show 5 on movie dialogs and vlogs. For music it's acceptable up to volume 7/10 ; beyond this level the compression kicks in too much.

I've just done a quick test with my Show 5 which I have sitting on the base plate of my PC monitor, which itself is raised about 2 inches above the desk on a block of wood. If I move the Show 5 to the very edge of the monitor stand there is a very slight increase in the very top sounds (cymbals) and a very slight reduction in the boominess of the bass, but there's not a lot in.
To clarify, the comparison is between having the speaker fire onto a solid surface and bounce of and firing into 2 inches of open space before hitting a softer surface. I personally wouldn't worry either way, especially as, if I'm listening to music for a long period, I switch the output to my music system via Bluetooth.
In both positions, I can feel the vibration of the speaker through the monitor stand, so I think the big difference in the video between sitting on the surface and being held in mid-air has more to do with it vibrating that massive desk and therefore accentuating the bass excessively.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the sound of the Show 5, as good as my 1st gen Show and much better than my 2nd gen Dot.
Hi Craig, A masterpiece on your part you gave the tech info about each device but didn't use that as the focus of your video. You did the best thing by letting hear with our own ears what each sounded like with insightful comments mixed in perfectly. If Amazon decides to sell a stand for the Echo Show 5 they should give you a cut of the profits. I would get a stand under one for sure as you mentioned. Tremendous work yet again thank you.
I actually like the mid and high range of the 5. The others seem to be muted in those ranges, at least in the video. The 5 also sounded cleared than the other Shows. I think you agreed as I’m typing as I’m listening!
I'm only speaking from the perspective of the video. It seems that the two larger Echo Shows may have not picked up on the microphone as well due to the speakers pointing either back or to the sides. Based on what is described, the sound quality is roughly similar between the Show 5 and Echo Dot 3rd Gen. And that's a very good, useful sound. The Show 5 is a neat device used as a bed-side alarm clock and I wonder if pairing it with an Echo Sub under the bed wouldn't be a pretty awesome combo...
This video confirms that I have a Show5 device will be great for videos and audio books while I am in the kitchen. Thank you for the review. I might continue to broadcast the music to the whole house while doing household projects. An Amazon music subscription may be in my future.

Thanks for comparing all these devices. I finally got to see how the screen on the Show 5 stacks up against the 1st gen. Kind of what I was thinking it would look like. The Echo Spot had the same sound problem. The speakers were on the bottom. Agree with you they should be on top or on the sides if it is possible.
I prefer the sound from my show 5 than my 3rd gen dot I’m waiting for my show 8 to arrive tomorrow so hoping that sounds even better
Great comparison video. I think the show 5 is best for a nightstand speaker and the 2nd gen show would be great to have in a kitchen or living room area. I will be getting the show 5 to put in my bedroom on my nightstand to replace my echo spot. Thanks for the great video.👍👍
Ok random & possibly a stupid question but... could you not turn it 180 dog so the speaker is facing up just to test the sound difference? Not ideal but would give a comparable test.

For medium to loud music I choose the Studio, but for any speech related listening, or listening at low volume I prefer the show 5 which is more soothing on the ears. I much prefer the show 5 sound in a bedroom setting.

I truly think the echo gen2 Plus is my favorite sound of course lack of vision makes me really notice it. It has the best spoken word and really nice music. I'm deciding which echo version to buy and it is surprisingly complex because though they all do essentially the same thing they do so in different ways. I'm leaning towards the Echo Show 5 as a bedside clock radio but then again the Echo Dot has good sound and is totally unintrusive... But of course the Tall Echo has the best audio. See what I mean? I will probably plug in or use a Bluetooth link to different speakers anyway. If there is any Alexa feature to add, I would like to be able to rename Alexa to another name with the possibility of a different gender or accent. That would be cool. But it's probably too difficult for the developers to do on a system wide basis. Hearing your audio comparison and the statement about the Dot being the best bang for the buck makes this video worth the time.

I think Show 5s have been popular here in the UK, ordered mine and had to wait a month for delivery, still two weeks to go. 😢

Hi Craig, my reading on the specs of echo show 5 + stand is that, having the front camera and clearly set to a cryatal clear voice combined with the skyoe video call is that the device is prepared for this use, and the integration with ring doorbell also turns the echo show 5 into a video intercom.
Seems that the delivery here in Atlantic Canada is delayed, but I'm expecting mine to arrive soon.

Yes, Amazon says they can be stereo-paired.
Can you pair a echo show with the echo sub?
Great job as always. I was curious, have you ever tried the echo drive? I use it all the time. As a truck driver, I love it. Has built in garmin GPS and now even has a traffic cam as well. If you haven’t tried it, I recommend it. Should be a good video for you to do (if you haven’t already)

Still, Echo Show 2 will back itself up until it hits an object behind it when listening to loud music.
I have 4 of these and and it's all the same.
The show 5, might do the same.
Echo Show 2 music is awesome despite it's tendency to move backward when played loud. :)
I'm tempted to pair 2 x Show 5s, so I can get better stereo over my bed -- not sure how that will compare to the single Echo 2 that I currently have in the corner though.
Hello Paul, I don't know if the lower end will be enough compared to the Echo. If I was going for stereo, I would wait until black friday and look for the new Echo 3rd gen that is coming this week to be on sale. The new 3rd gen echo has improved sound that the Echo Plus 2nd gen brought last year. During black friday or cyber monday you should see some good discounts. I will be doing a video this weekend on the Echo 3rd generation with some sound comparisons. I will do a comparison next to the 2nd gen echo, Dot and Show 5. Maybe that will help you decide. I would also consider getting just 2 echo dots for a stereo pair. Thanks for watching.

I did stereo-pair a couple of Echo 2s earlier, as an experiment -- I now realise that they only support music, which is a shame as most of my listening life is spent with audible books.
Probably going to seek out an alternative solution.
Nice job. Consider getting the Amazon stand for it at $20 and see if that helps. I'm not going to listen to mine playing music, though, and am more interested in how it handles voice commands versus the others in situations where distance/ambient noise are a factor, especially.
After seeing this I did, in fact, order the Amazon "official" stand for the Echo 5 and it came today. It takes care of the sound concerns you have and it's fit/adjustability make especially nice for getting the exact viewing position you want. It's magnetic and has a nice rubber pad on the bottom to keep it from sliding around too easily.
thanks for the video. My echo first gen is dying so was considering a 2nd gen echo or possibly a show 5. I doubt we'd use the screen much but its cheaper than the regular echo. Sound definitely seems more balanced on the regular echo so will probably go that direction
If one were to connect a Bluetooth Soundbar to each of these devices, using the same Soundbar and just moving it around, do you think there would be any quality difference

We like the audio quality of the Echo Show 5 . . . Until . . . you pair a bluetooth device, or an Amazon remote. After disconnecting the bluetooth, the built in speaker looses it’s fidelity and sounds very tinny. To return the fidelity to the built-in speakers, I have to unplug the power and plug it back in. Also, when I paired the Amazon remote, the mic function did not work; all the other features worked. I had to pair the Amazon remote to my Echo Dot, and then the remote updated itself and the mic function would work on the Echo Show 5. I may just have a faulty device. Thanks Craig . . . Bob

I totally agree with your summation. I think it is right for its price point in terms of sound. To be honest, I think most of the currently available echo's are good for casual listening, the moment I want something more I plug them into a full stereo system and use real speakers. But to be honest 90% of my time I am listening in short spurts as I do a job around my home or in my car. I have seen some youtube videos with some audiophiles who go that next step, but I personally think for most of us the echos are good enough on their own most of the time.
I have to say I think this echo show 5 is a game changer, although it is not as good as the show 2nd gen, it is great value and pulls together most features that I think people would want. On the odd occasion, you do want some serious sound plug it into a serious stereo. I can see all of my echo dots being replaced by the show 5.
Final note, as I have been listening to the show at mid-level volumes on my desk, I have been perfectly happy with it. I have Denon speakers on my desk which my previous Fire 8 was plugged into, I haven't been tempted to plug them in as yet. I have found the show 5 perfectly adequate in this situation.

I returned my echo sub since I couldn’t use the stereo pair of echos and the sub with the fire TV Cube for video. I also felt like that money could be spent on additional tech. If you feel like the low-end is missing in the sub would help that it could be a good buy for you. I do think the sub works well. It has only 2 mics. If you have a smart home, it wont cut it. Dosent hear NEARLY as good as a 1st gen dot. Mine are going back.

Hi Craig can you use the Web browser on echo shows to go to the bbc I player and itv hub to watch stuff and same with disney plus as you can't get these apps will they work if. You went to the main website for them like disneyplus.com

First let's try the 2nd Gen Dot: Balanced sound, crisp and clear, intelligible faithful audio reproduction. You can actually understand lyrics! Now try the failed subsequent products: Muddy, want to levitate across the surface they sit on by vibrating hard at low frequencies, low buzzing sounds like they somehow have both a wool sock and a free-slapping 8" long rubber rod or a bedspring stuffed inside. Only recommended for use in the low rider you own to annoy your parents and the entire neighborhood since you don't really ever want a job anyway. Besides, zoot suits with long watch chains will never go out of style. May help compensate for hearing loss from subwoofer and earbud abuse, but alas no help with the lip-reading you resort to in order to get by in life day to day.
Based just on this video I think the Echo Show 5 sounds really good to me especially against the Echo Show 2nd gen. Maybe it sounds different in person vs over hearing via a video.

I've seen some reviews of stands for the Dot and they seem to help the sound. It would probably help the Show 5 too. Amazon sure doesn't make it easy to find specs for their speakers. I searched around the other night while watching TV and I didn't really find anything. At least I know the wattage now. The Dots are OK for kitchen or bedroom speakers. They're cheap enough to get two when on sale for a good price. Two Dots or a full -sized Echo are about as good or better than most Bluetooth speakers in this price range

Have have an Echo Spot and picked up the Show 5 yesterday. My opinion, the Spot sounds better but I like the larger screen on the Show 5.
I replaced my spot with the show 5 because of the bigger screen and in my opinion the show 5 has much better sound quality than the spot
It’s Prime Day, and Amazon had Show 5 with trade in of my Spot that worked out to it being free! If the sound is even close, then I’ll be happy.

I don’t yet own a Echo Show 5 so I cannot answer about the clock faces, but as for turning the screen off. Yes the Echo Show’s Screen can be turned off if you want. Just say Alexa turn off screen. The entire screen goes dark.
