these guys have very clean composition and production skills. the strings, percussion and keys are all very crisp, clear and seamless. many people try to pull this sound off and few of them really can. most of the time, the songs wind up sounding either too busy and thrown together or they sound as if the creator was trying way too hard to be minimalistic and in doing so, wound up lacking any discernible overall feel or emotional expression. this song is a good example of the right way to do it.

Let's be clear here, Kisamos are brilliant and this song is one of the best in the album. What I can't understand is why would they do a live performance with the two standing close to each other, moving their bodies and pretending to produce live sounds without even changing a whole lot of the album version. The piano sound is screaming for them to be played live, I would've liked it if one of them was playing piano and the other one taking care of the electronic instruments, this would've been a real live show.

They don't pretend everything. I would like tosee a "live" version too but they are no performers, mainly composers and they are adding some things cleary to this performance.

      Jose Hernandez well let's see:
(Not counting the two sm58's/ speakers/ stands or any of the number of things they might be running inside Ableton, etc.)
      - 1 Macbook Pro = $2k-3k (depending)
      - 1 Ableton Live 9 Suite license = $700
      - 1 Arturia Minibrute = $500
      - 1 iPad (mini) running Lemur (Maybe something else, but doubtful) = $400-600 + 20
      - 1 Kaoss pad (KP3 Plus) = $350
      - 1 Novation LaunchPad = $100
      - 1 Novation LaunchControl = $100
^ and that just leaves the white box with pretty colors... which to my eye, looks a lot like like a Native Instruments Traktor Scratch A10 with masking tape/ a classy marker job for labeling I/O, but I'm not 100% certain. The stereo RCA (red-white I/0) of the A10 would compliment that of the KP-3.. and a stereo RCA to quarter inch TRS cable would connect the minibrute's master out to Ableton. anyways. That'll run you another $500.
Other things I'd have would be a solid powered USB-hub ($20-50) to make sure all of my peripherals are properly powered as MacBooks are pretty notorious for under-powering their ports. Then a surge protected power strip/ condition to properly/ cleanly power everything. (Can run anywhere from ($50-700)... you'd hope the venue would supply clean power, but you never know.) Anyways. -chuckles- hope that was [henry david] thoreau enough for you.
Oh yeah, the number = $4740 - 6620. (Sorry, I'm from America and am too lazy to run the conversions to pounds.)
Anyways, they're definitely running several instruments/ processing (probably UAD-2) plugins that I can't see and haven't noted above... and those strings are real and were either recorded back at his studio in Reykjavik or at an even nicer place. The piano is most assuredly his personal Bechstein (no clue on this one as it was restored.. I'm guessing like $40k at least), miked by either a couple Coles 4038's ($2800 a pair)/ Neumann KM84's ($1600 a pair).. I'm not about to list the outboard gear he uses.. this response is long enough already, lmao.
