I was on the Princess Ruby from January 15 to February 12 for a total of 28 days. I originally did a back to back, but when I was on board, they offered a single solo offer of 50% off. So I added two more weeks to my cruise. I paid less for a balcony and I did for the original interiors and I had a great time.
Very cool! I love that ship. I rode her over from SF to Galveston.
No mortgage no car payments no utilities property taxes and a few more things 😉
Yep, it's kinda great! :)
And you get housekeeping, food and entertainment. 😂
@@sct4040 awesome brother 👌😎
Internet is pricey and sketchy. They have starlink but it's throttled IMO to about 3mps
@@1JohnnyCruiser thanks 👈👍
So pretty where you’re sitting!!! I love it!
It really is...and no one is ever there in the mornings!
@@30AndAWakeUp I mean, honestly, that’s a better selling point than the beauty. 🤣
I'm really enjoying your cruising series! You do such a great job explaining everything.
I appreciate that, Chris.
Thumbs up for Kevin. Driving for 100,000 very soon.
Haha! Thanks man.
Thanks for sharing! Regarding the coffee package - I was just on the Regal Princess Feb 5-12th. I attempted to purchase that coffee package on the app a few days before the cruise but because it was too close- I was unable to. My first day on the cruise I went to the specialty coffe location and asked if I could purchase it there. For $36.00 I purchased “unlimited” specialty coffees which also covered my roommate at no additional cost. Hope this helps for future cruises😊
Very cool! Thanks for the info, Tanya.
I also forgot to mention we were never charged for all the bottled water we got so I think that was also part of the package. On another note, so you can book a cabin as a solo guest without paying for the second person?
Thanks for the room tour and for explaining everything so clearly. Those onboard credits really help to lower the price.
yeah for sure. Princess gives lots of onboard credit.
I saw they have alarm clocks that start adding light to the cabin
Thanks to your channel, I found a cruise from San Diego up to Vancouver (they take the ships up for summer)… super cheap!! Thank you for telling us about cruise plum !
Very cool! I love that website.
I'm doing a repositioning cruise from LA to Vancouver in April. It was so cheap I couldn't refuse. I'm skipping a balcony for and outside cabin this one time because of the cooler weather
Thank you this video explains things perfectly no BS.
Glad you liked it!
Sorry I missed the premier! Stupid work. Think I'm ready to retire for realz. That is a very good and thorough breakdown. If that space as a skylight at top I'd call it an atrium too. You really are closing on 100k subscribers, way to go! I forgot what you'd said you'd do once that happened.
I know..why does work have to interfere with everything! :) no problem, tara..thanks for stopping by!
Super info! Gorgeous solo suite & ‘atrium’ 😊 Lots like you are having a blast! Go Kevin to 100k!
Awww thanks Jan! :)
Missed it! Watching now!
No problem, Ke Le!
Thanks Kevin for sharing the cost savings I hope you do that for each cruise as well as a tour of the different amenities that the different ships have to offer-can’t wait till you hit platinum with Princess!
I just hit it today! :)
@@30AndAWakeUp wonderful! Congrats 🎊🎉🍾
Great breakdown of costs and packages, Kevin! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, Ke Le! :)
Nice meeting you
Very nice meeting you as well.
The coffee would be my downfall too!! So glad you shared the coffee package option! Thanks for the breakdown! I really want to cruise to Antarctica and to New Zealand! Love following your adventures!
There are some great cruises to both!
Outstanding job of breaking down your costs…thanks
Thanks, Peggy! :)
That was incredible
Thanks 👍
Always good information brother! Thank you for sharing! I have been on a few of these during my maritime Security voyages. Absolutely amazing. Awesome video 👍👍👍
Thanks brother! Lots of security folks on this one.
@30 And A Wake Up Very informative! Probably not for me--I'm a landlubber mostly.
What does "lots of security folks" mean and how can you tell? And why would they be on there? Are they like Air Marshals?
Great video - love the honesty. One month to go until I join you living on ships!
Im excited to see how it is on the other side of the pond!
@@30AndAWakeUp I’ll be starting in Dubai, so a very different experience!
@@FraserAtSea Very cool
Great info! Was planning on taking an around the world cruise when I retire but looks like I may be able to stretch it out for a longer stay than 90 days for not much more money to do it the way you’re doing it. Feel like I’m going to learn so much from you during your cruise series! Thanks for sharing Kevin!
check out cruiseplum search engine...you'll find some great deals :)
@@30AndAWakeUp will do. Thanks for the tip!
Another story about a retired person says he pays about $90,000 a year to live full time on a cruise ship.
Nice if you can afford it.
Most retirees can’t.
you can do it for way less than that
The stock price for Carnival Cruises is $11.14 a share as of 2/21. With broker fees would be around $1,200 to get the 100 shares of stock and the $250 shipboard credit per cruise. Talk about a great hack!
Yep...for sure. I bought mine.
I am confused is this ship that he is on royal Caribbean or carnival where one can buy shares and get the $250 credit
Thanks
If you want cheap cruises for next winter, i advise you to look at MSC for the red sea from Egypt and Costa or MSC for the Emirates from Dubai.
I did 4 weeks of cruises this winter on the Costa Toscana for the amount of 1700$ with taxes and gratuities included, and in April I will do 2 repositioning cruises from Santos Brazil until Copenhagen Danmark for a total of 35 days on the Costa Firenze, it will also cost me around 1700$ for the 35 days.
Thanks for the info! I'll check it out.
Discovered your channel from searching cruises and I’m staying along for the journey! Keen to see more videos!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you for the brake down on costs
No problem 👍
Awesome to see your channel growing. You deserve all of the success coming your way!
Thanks man.
I am also just retired military US Army 👍😎 own two properties getting ready for this venture 😉👌
Very cool! And congrats on your retirement.
The Piazza has the same decor as the Discovery Princess, right down to the glass blue "flipflops" hanging from the ceiling.
Yeah, I think all of that class are similar.
I wish you could plan my Alaska cruise this summer! I’m only finding $350-400/ day solo for a balcony. I got too claustrophobic inside.
Thanks for the video!❤
try cruiseplum...early or late season..i think you can find a better deal than that
January 2024 I’m doing two back to back cruises on grand princess leaving Melbourne victoria Australia 🇦🇺 - balcony with queen bed this will cost me over $10,000 AUD. 28 days - anything for my own sanity and peace and quiet
I’ll be on Grand on the way over to Australia
We were in the exact same cruise that you were. We had an amazing time we ♥️ Princess!
Very cool. I love Sky!!!
Great video! I missed your live too. Now I have to catch up. I was just thinking about taking a short cruise as soon as I am "free to roam" Thanks for sharing.
That will be fun! :)
We like the inside cabins to. Naps are easy and price is easy on the wallet.
Yep!
I enjoy your videos, when I retire this fall I plan to spend 2024 cruising all over. I have 3 cruises in 2023 and I planned for 2024 so far but plan on doing a lot in 2024
That sounds like an amazing adventure! I'm excited to hear about it! Maybe I'll see you out there!
Great info, as usual. I'm looking forward to being much more savvy with my bookings in the future. Now that I know you spent a year in Thailand I'll have to check those vlogs out as it is my favorite land vacation I do.
Yeah, Thailand is great. Can't wait to return later this year.
Great video. You explained everything well. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful! And thanks for watching.
Hi Master Chief. I just found and subscribed to your channel. Have you mentioned the meaning of "30 And A Wake Up" in past videos? I did a quick search of your earliest videos and could not find anything. As a fellow Navy retiree, I thought others might be interested. During Vietnam, most of us were assigned for a specific time period, usually one year or exactly 365 days. Almost from the day we arrived, we started to count our remaining time in country by the days remaining plus "a wake up" which was the day we were scheduled to fly home. So if you asked anyone (short timers particularly) how much longer they had left, they would always answer so many days plus a wake up. It has often been said that we were not in Vietnam for 20 years but one year twenty times. I am enjoying your videos.
Yes! When we deployed, we always had a countdown until or return home. When I first started traveling I would live in a country for 30 days before waking up in the new one. Thanks for your service by the way.
I am glad you like or can do this. But I think it would be lonely and boring. I like watching. Though. But these are great. And i am happy for you and this incredible lifestyle.
yeah, it's not for everyone
Hello Kevin good to see you beautiful ship your on '' and hey that looks like my kind of cruise to Belize'' enjoy you trio and good to see you my friend big hugs
Thanks so much leona! :)
I’m doing 28 days starting this Sunday. 14 day back to back. Could be broken into 4 7 day cruises. On Regal can’t wait.
Very cool
Congratulations on achieving Premium Princess status.
Im excited to use it next cruise!
Hi Kevin, great to have your videos back on UA-cam. Out of interest, what was the internet speed and reliability like ?
It was ok..not like what you get at home but good enough for me to upload youtube vids and watch youtube.
The most annoying thing in the cabin is the metal flap that holds down the tp. Trying to lift that up and pull the toilet paper in a dark bathroom in the middle of the night can be a challenge.
yeah, it is aweful
Agree! Thumbs up for nearing 100k! 👍
Will you be in the same room for both cruises? Wondering if you have to leave and reboard...
My room was changed but to an identical room. Yes, you have to leave and reboard to clear customs. It's an easy process.
Great video. Be aware it’s not stock in Carnival Cruise line but stock in Carnival Corporation. A big difference. You also get extra credit if traveling solo so you can climd higher in the different levels faster.
Thanks for the info! :)
Good to see you back in action! hope all is well, bro! Can't wait to get some of our Voyager funds back!
Thanks bro...been a crazy process with Voyager.
Add ones are highway robbery! Internet $314! Seriously! Buying a package for “specialty coffee” and sodas?
The alcohol packages are often more expensive that the cruise it’s self! Did one cruise….never again!
yeah, they'll nickel and dime ya
Lucky you. I got hit big time for being a solo cruiser. When I asked about deals going, the agent reacted liked I'd asked her to donate a kidney!
Ive discovered that most agents are really good at finding deals for solos. Check out the website cruiseplum...you can search as a solo occupant. It's not a travel agent site...just a search engine.
I agree we solo travelers get treated like lepers sometimes 😡
Great info. You should have a series of vids on how you decide which cruise line is best and how to maximize status , like branded credit cards , stock, etc. everything was great except friends don’t let friends drink foo foo coffee drinks. Good tips . Make me consider trying a cruise . Been on a few liners to visit ,but only traveled once on a freighter( another topic)
yeah i definitely will as I experience more lines
That inside cabin is nice I could do that I only took one cruise on Carnival ship that inside cabin was horrible and bed was not comfortable great way to spend a year traveling while seeing new places with room, food and transportation covered that total cost isn't bad cruises are definitely more cost effective if you get the basic cabin and drink the free beverages.
Yeah, I have to have a good cabin for sure :)
Amber Cove is in the eastern Caribbean not the western Roatan and Cozumel are in the western Caribbean
yeah, I jacked that up :)
Great content. And thanks for sharing your internet cost saving strategy (cruise line status).
No problem
6:35 Thanks for the tip about stock ownership and cruise credit. Gonna go get some. 👍
yeah, if you cruise enough..it pays for itself pretty quick
I had no idea Royal Caribbean gives $100 on board credit per cruise if you have 100 shares of RCL. I'm asking my broker now
Great information about the military veterans onboard credit and credit if one owns 100 shares or more of Carnival Corporation stock and advise on getting onboard credit when booking. Also props for giving the gratuities to the crew. The crew members work long hours and have earned the income
Yeah, definitely.
😢Shareholder benifits for onboard credits Applicable on sailings through July 31,2023 Reservation must be made prior to February 28,2023
well hopefully the shareholders vote to extend it
The fact that you get completely screwed unless you cruise so much that you get to the high tiers makes me actively not want to go on cruises. I'd rather spend my limited vacation time not subsidizing other passengers.
Of course when I'm retired I might go cruising a lot and then it would make more sense.
Understand
thanks for that i can see myself doing that some day soon i hope
Awesome!
Glad to see a new vid.. One question i didnt hear you memtion. Do you ever have to buy a hotel somewhere in between ships. Or ia it easy to book another ship right away??
Usually no...but sometimes I do. And I just use accumulated credit card points to pay for it.
It’s nice that you get all the discounts. So for the 21 days did you stay on the cruise ship? I think you also need to include the air fare cost which is another high expense depending where the port is.
So i have the chase sapphire reserve and get lots of points for travel...I've been traveling full time for 4 years now and have never paid for a flight...i just book with the points I earn
I alway heard that area called “The Centrium”
hmmm...I havent heard that one yet...but makes sense
Might just be a RCCL name.
I lived on a Princess ship for a year and got paid to do it 🎉
Nice!
I did back 2 back on royal Caribbean symphony of the seas last august and got to do western and eastern Caribbean definitely check that ship out!
I definitely want to try out Symphony! Looks like a beautiful ship.
Excellent video
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the great informative and inspirational video and congrats on your bargain hunting skills! It’s a challenge when traveling solo. We’re you able to pick your own cabin for your journeys? Thanks and enjoy your life!
I usually just let them pic the cabin...and so far I've been ok with the choices :)
great fare total!
yes!
Single supplement usually brings the price way up. I try to go when they do the specials like this time only 10 percent more as solo.
Yeah, i use cruise plum to find low supplement deals.
You can get free drinks and specialty coffee in the Platinum elite lounges.
can't wait!!!
Great insight. Thank you. How reliable and stable is the internet service? I
It's ok.....not great but ok
Solid breakdown.
Thanks for sharing so much.
Have any coupon codes, or affiliate links for that nomad bag?
Thanks J. It's down in the description.
Haven't cruised in many years but just watched another YT'er show cost and almost fainted! So glad you showed another option. Are the shows free? Saw your mini frig in your room..are you allowed to bring drinks/liquor onboard or are required to buy in the onboard shops? Might bring my Nespresso, lol!
I think you can bring on a certain amount of sodas and waters but it varies from cruise ship to cruise ship. I havent heard any of them allowing alcohol but not sure.
When and if you go back to van life and are in Oregon you are welcome to camp here at the eagles nest property
Thank you so much. And I am sure I will at some point. :)
$2,289 is less than my monthly utility bills. 😮
😯🙃
So much better accommodations than the silent service...
Haha! Absolutely!
I think it is called a rotunda
Thanks!
Wow, that’s actually do-able. I assume you aren’t paying for a home on land somewhere so the cruise costs are covering “home”, food, and transportation. Sounds good to me.
Yeah, I dont have any bills but travel! And to be honest...this was one of my more expensive cruises.
@@30AndAWakeUp wait, you don't have a home on land? As in no house or apartment anywhere? Wow...that's so interesting! So what do you do between excursions? Stay in a hotel?
@@everettedl ive been traveling full time for years...i rarely have days away from ship..but when I do..i use credit card points earned from cruising to pay for a hotel
@@30AndAWakeUp that's awesome! Clearly I need to watch other videos! Lol But what about income? I know military retirement is part of that, but is there anything else that you do to supplement that?
@@everettedl believe it or not...youtube almost fully funds my travels
This is such an interesting idea. Living on a cruise ship never have to cook for yourself genius.
Haha…yes! Or clean!
Your room prices don't look like solo prices, I am booked on a cruise with Carnival Horizon and my inside room for $600 cost me $1200 solo, thanks Carnival.
they are...check out cruiseplum...you can search by solo rate and find lots of good deals
I think the cruise liners should pay you a fee! They get incredible “real life” publicity from you videos!
haha...nah....then they'd want to control what I say :) but I appreciate you saying that
What's the Internet like? Was it stable throughout the 21 days?
yeah, it was ok. Good enough to upload youtube vids and watch netflix.
I cruised back in November when that ship first got starlink and the download was like 50 mps. This time it's like 3mps and the voom representative refused to answer any questions for the record. I don't doubt the WiFi is throttled to reduce their costs with Starlink IMO
You may want to purchase 100 shares of carnival looks like you will break even quick with the number of cruises you are taking. I gifted both of my kids 100 a piece last year when they were 6 bucks a share
Already did...just didn't have it when I booked this cruise :(
Hey Kevin--did you end up doing the long-term visa package in Thailand? Is that your home base now?
Yeah, I have the 20 year visa...I'll be there in October and I do consider it my home away from home but not a home base yet. but in the future for sure.
That sounds like I could almost afford to spend an entire year cruising!
definitely is!
What do the lounges provide - I noticed this on higher level status screen shot you showed
Not sure to be honest!
Love the advice on drinks package. How many cups of foo-foo coffee does it take to break even?
I’m also looking at hot tea. Would it be better to bring my own foil wrapped English Breakfast and herbal teas or would that be readily available?
6 as well. Hot tea is free. They have all kinds of brands available. Tetley English Breakfast and lots of herbal kinds.
Hi Kevin, just wondering if you could use a personal satelite internet package indendent of the cruise that would be a lot cheaper.
Not sure. But hopefully that will be reality one day. Maybe with starlink.
@@30AndAWakeUp yeah that's what I was thinking. Great to have you back travelling Kevin. It's always exciting to see what you are doing.
TMobile is supposed to be teaming up with starlink. Who knows if it would even work onboard if the cruise lines jam the signal like a Vegas hotel
east is west...west is east 🤗
Im like wait...cozumel is east of puerto rico....but yeah....cruise math says it's the other way :)
@@30AndAWakeUp All good! Great vid with good info!
My dream is to cruise all the time, but I’d have to divorce my husband, because he doesn’t like water and no interest in traveling.
try to find something he likes...maybe the casinos?
Did you spend anything on laundry? Of course it is complementary once you reach Elite status.
Yeah, I forgot to mention… $6
I’ll be living on a cruise ship for 62 days but all apart within 2 years 😂
Still pretty cool!
Key, not cay
haha..the oldest debate in the Caribbean. But yes, I agree is Key unless you're at one they pronounce Cay (which there are some that locals do pronounce Cay)
What do you do with your vehicle- leave it home and take Uber to the dock?
I've been traveling full time since 2019 and havent owned a vehicle since then (other than my RV when I was traveling that way). So it's all Ubers for me! :)
That´s super thrifty.
Really enjoying your cruise videos..Wondering what the cost for a couple would be ( since you mentioned yours was 109$ per day minus the credits )..Also would you get good discounts if you were to book with one cruise-line ?
probably about the same.....check out cruiseplum and search by two passengers....youll find lots of affordable deals. I would say that being open to sailing with different lines is more cost effective than sticking with one line.
Aloha Kevin! What…no “bum gun” in the bathroom??? 😅
Unfortunately, no!
When are you going to be on the enchantment? I’m cruising out in March
Ill be on her in March as well
There are some people that do this. I still have a home and 3500 nights on a cruise ship. Right now I’m currently on a 3 1/2 year nonstop back to back same port same days switching ships every two or three months and I will tell you it is not cheap. of course you can go on some flimsy carnival cruise ship but for example I’m on the world cruise next when I get off enchanted princess on Friday on Sunday, the royal Caribbean longest world Cruise ever 274 nights and that was approximately $300,000 I will tell you the amount of comfort and pleasure goes directly in hand with the amount of money you pay. this is my last princess after 48. I just can’t stand it anymore after corona because of the passenger behavior is nothing shy of not acceptable.
Awww...well that sucks!
@@30AndAWakeUp princess used to be good before corona. All I hear from people was complaining on the ship because of all the different weird things that were going on.
Question for you as I want to make sure I heard you correctly. They allow you to stack the Onboard Credit from owning 100 shares of carnival stock along with your Military Onboard credit? Love the channel. Thanks!
yeah, they do...but I heard they might be getting rid of the shareholder incentive...
Carnival Corp has just renewed the Shareholders credit for 2023. I just purchased my shares and Princess/Carnival has already applied my Shareholders credit for our cruise in August. Really a nice deal, considering the current prince of CCL stock.
I’m curious if your laptop crashes how do you go about fixing or replacing
Id go to an apple store when in port
What about laundry?
I forgot to include the 6 bucks i spent on laundry. Princess has self serve laundry for $3.
@@30AndAWakeUp self serve laundry is awesome to have available on board. Norwegian hasn't got that, but once you reach Platinum, you can get a free bag of laundry done by the ship which is sweet.
wouldn't it be worth your while buying those 100 shares?
I did...it just wasn't in time to apply to this cruise
