I got kicked out of the ARMY for being gay 41 years ago. It was a different world back then. But ... I am much stronger now and have far more confidence than I used to. We can always elect COURAGE!

Its really sad that in 2019 Teens still feel scared to come out. We've come a long way but we still need to educate the younger generation on acceptance and respect.
It's not just the younger generation!! Very often, Homophobic behavior, begins at home! How do you tell your dad, who uses the word "faggot" as often as he uses the word fuck or shit, you're gay? It's 2019, but lots of people don't know that yet! Things are moving fast, but not fast enough. Good reason to vote Blue!
The younger generation is now more accepting. I think the older generation still stuck in their beliefs that is difficult for them to accept the reality.
@@mickycaponpon I think the saving grace for the younger generation, is movies and tv, that is beginning to depict Gay (LGBTQ) as TV shows like the Fosters, 2 moms, with good jobs, a regular marriage, with it's ups and downs, successfully, raising a bunch of mismatched kids and a son, who is socially excepted by his peers at school! Degrassi, did it by introducing 2 gay boys, one, stereotypically gay! Then, introducing, 2 jocks, who became lovers. Shock the straight world, that gay has many faces of every coulor race and religion, form all walks of life. They shattered stereotypes. more recently, Andi Mack Disney's failed attempt to feature mainstream, a lead in the show and his possible love interest. Unfortunately, the Homophobic, Evangelicals, put kibosh on that. The Movie, Love Simon, also is helping mainstream a regular kid, who was closeted gay, who could very easily, have kept in the closet and not been found out! these shows and movies not only make a lot of closeted kids feel like they aren't alone, but shine a light of "straight" friends and family, openly accepting them. We've come a long way but still have so far to go.
@@ronniecaron6827 Media has been a very big influence to the changes of LGBTQ+ acceptance. I hope sooner they will just see people not by their gender, color, ethnicity or religion but the way they show humanity to each other.
Have you ever found yourself looking around the room wondering who actually knew you were gay and who didn't? All the time wondering if you could trust anyone to know who you truly were? It is so hard to come out as being gay. My mom is gay and it still took me until I was 23 to come out to her!! It is that hard. I did the same, I came out over social media, and the result was great! I spent most of my life being afraid when people already loved me for me. Love and respect your story! Wish I had guys like you to talk to more often.
I wish my family would accept me.. after coming out, they limited my gadget usage and separated me from my boyfriend. they would rather made me live in their desired way than seeing me be happy for being who i am😔
Why can I relate to this comment? My grandmother is very in denial( one of those "holier than thou" Christians) about me and my bisexual-ness. I'm learning not to care anymore.
Well done. I didn't come out generally until I was 63. Such a relief. I never did come out to my parents before they passed. Different era. Can't rush these things eh!
Thank you for sharing your coming out story. I’m sure it will help others who are struggling with their orientation. I’m glad I came across your channel Daniel. I’m an Army vet who was stationed in South Korea when I was in my early 20s. Fortunately when I came out to my parents I also had a very supportive family. But hearing your story helped me to remember how scared I was in that moment. I think we all fear rejection by our loved ones. Be well. 💕✨💕✨💕
Hi, Daniel! Thank you for the video. And from Russia, specifically from Moscow. I'm gay. I never considered it a big problem: I had a loving mother. And pretty smart and educated friends around. But your video made me look at myself differently. Yours and a few more similar ones that popped up in the UA-cam search engine in random order. It turns out that the most difficult thing is to accept yourself. It's not just gay people who face this, but gay people have a heightened sense of it. Self-hatred and a sense of depravity are only reinforced by social censure: whether it is related to religion, national mentality, or some other local factors. And it turns out that being gay is still a problem for me. It is very difficult to accept yourself as you are and forgive yourself for any shortcomings. It is even more difficult to separate this acceptance from the indulgence of base instincts and all that brings us closer to animals. In other words, it's even harder to be a real human. I am a religious person, and I realized that my orientation is a gift from above, which made me more serious and deep. And also a warning against a consumerist and hedonistic attitude to the world. Well - a certain challenge to courage: because fear is something that is always present in the life of a gay man. Even if it's just the fear of being misunderstood or rejected.
I can ensure you that there's absolutely nothing wrong about being gay. If someone try to convince you that being gay is wrong, then they are completely wrong. Being gay is something very beautiful, and I'm really happy for you. I wish you all the best. Greetings from Norway.
1st, you're very attractive & gave a great story. We could've come accross in passing duty stations, since we both share young military enlistments-Im from N. Chicago & enlisted @ 17 in the Air Nat'l Guard for 6yrs. USAF basic was in San Antonio/Tech Tng in Biloxi. Similarly, I also was closeted til abt 22/23 depending who I was around. I worked w/a lesbian MSgt who was great but no one in the military knew about me. I was able to attend university f/t & get my BA @ the same time. Our unit flew KC-135 Air Refueling tankers. I went on a few missions over Cuba to Grand Cayman Island on leave for free. I photographed us fueling up F-16s for a flight surgeon in 1 of them, he wanted pics from our plane above his. I requested active duty tours each summer between univ semesters & volunteered for a Pentagon assignment in a classified vault-very cool, a LtCol invited me back to DC the next year at Andrews AFB. I dated a girl as a cover & we slowly brought diff guys back from bars drunk, it was my way of experimenting guys into it all & put her on notice. After my 6 yrs, I moved to Ft Lauderdale, OMG it has a gay Mayor & more gays than ever (like Palm Springs CA). Constant tourist boys visiting the beach & gay clubs...heaven. Navy brings ships & cute sailors for Fleet Week + an great Air & Sea show yearly. I came out to both parents @ 24 by phone frm FL when I had a 21yo bf. I had to, my bf lived w/me & P's were gonna stay overnight enroute to FL Keys on business. They took the news well, it's actually a funny story. Are u enjoying Korea? I had 2 yrs ready reserve w/o any responsiblity when I got Optional Orders to Osan AB, Korea. I was in a police hiring process & allowed to decline. What's ur Naval job?
It's really cool to be in South Korea, trust me if I was there for two years I would be observing their taekowndo classes. You're brave to come out after crying. I came out while crying. It felt such relief to come out before my 27th birthday. Btw it's this Friday! 🍾
That’s great Daniel that you can now live your life honestly and share with your friends and family a big part of who you are. Always be proud of the man you are and who you love. 😘

Daniel, thank you for having the courage, intelligence, and spirit to make this video. I just found you and subbed. I have been teaching and counseling guys in your age group since before you were born. Hopefully, some day the rest of the world will gain the maturity about life that you have already achieved. Kudos to you, bro...........Ray
i counsel college kids at my university. It's a very liberal school, witch is why a lot of kids apply! Some kids from educated and open minded families, but most have families that still want the family to look like "Leave it to Beaver!! Then there are the kids from the "Bible Belt!"
i came out 3 days later than you, october 7 2018, i was 18 then. it was a group of 8 friends and everyone was super happy that I told them and they also said they already knew a little bit. i think you are never fully ready to say it for the first time because somehow it's soooo scary. but now looking back at it, i think: why was it so difficult. 4 months later i came out to my mom and she told it to my dad. mom was super suportive but my dad didn't speak for like 3 days to me. after those days everything went back to normal and since then we actually never spoke about it again. sometimes i would like to talk about it to them, such as if i have a boyfriend or if i'm dating anyone or so. but my parents aren't really open about feelings. i'm happy that you have such good people around you! :)
Mentally healthy people do not go on online begging people to approve of them and worse imagine because they have butt sex that they are some sort of celebrity. LOL ... This has become a fad. It is no wonder gays are laughed at. They are constantly parading their drama queen lives.
Congratulations on being able to come out and that you were in a safe place an amazing family and friends, cheers to you buddy, Happy New year to you 2020#😃

Wow cool video Daniel Beckman brought soo much memories that same month i came out gay to my mom & dad October 18th 1991 when i was a freshman in hight school it was hardest thing in my life but they accept me for i am was there son they supported me
i am actually happy that you had an accepting family like yours , the process of accepting your sexuality as an LGBTQ+ is hard , at least it was a kind of positive experience to you . in my case i got disowned by my family for being gay . i live far away from them . but the fact that having no family members that supports you for who you are is truly painful .
Some people never come out. That is sadness, because they can never be themselves. Can never find the love they deserve.

You are a very smart, articulate, handsome guy ... who happens to be also gay. It's like your eye color and hair color; it's just who you are. Thank you for sharing another part of who you are with me! I'm impressed with you.
Thank you for your testimony. It's very important and that can help a lot of us. 👍😊
MOM always know and your blessed cause you are loved. the bullying is horrible which i do not understand as it is so much more accepted today and yet bullying is running wild. you got lucky and you have a great support system. the Navy really helped you i think Bless you
your family loves you so much NOW be a good role model everyday for all those kids who need your help. People are accepting if it comes from a good place and yours does!
Good for you, Daniel. That took courage. I am proud of you. You are also a real "Cutie". You're gonna make some deserving young man very happy. Best of life, my son. I got kicked out of the ARMY
for being gay 41 years ago. It was a different world back then. I have been through it all: humiliation, threats, called very condescending names, fired from jobs, beaten up, disowned, "prayed over", etc. I still have a few relatives who refuse to speak to me. But ... I am much stronger now and have far more confidence than I used to. We can always elect COURAGE!
Well done man it’s a hard thing to do but brave 👊🏼
Thank You for your service!! I am glad your coming out was good. For any teen watching, you might want to wait until you are out of your parents and in your own home.
Daniel, I think you came out in your own time when the time was right for you. You are right in having the support group needed for you when they are needed. I hope you are now enjoying and celebrating the whole you. My husband and I will celebrate our 36th anniversary in a few months and I hope you will find the same special someone who you can have a lifetime of love and happiness.
You are a Inspiration to All Young People who want to come out . 💖😍👍
Coming out is incredibly stressful, and it is so nice to hear that your parents loved you so much to accept you. You are very blessed. Wishing you the best Daniel. Be safe. I hope you find someone very special, he will be a lucky man.

Daniel Beckman, many thanks for the story of your coming out. Your story touched me. You know, until now I am still closed.
You are blessed with real loving parents who have understanding of life with acceptance of other as they are and not condemning or judging for what ever the circumstances are. That is what everyone should be about, not allowing a person to be themselves. The ability to be oneself and contribute to the world special talents and gifts that are special because not all can be another, just themselves no matter how they try. We all need to be that special one and share life together in a loving way and grow on our lifes journey. Congratulations for being YOU and those whom are not accepting it, not your issues its within themselves and they need to put themselves in check.
Good on you Thank you for sharing your story and you are very handsome 💕💛🧡❤💚💙💜🤍i was out and open when i about 8-9 year old, i don't know it right or wrong but i was happy who i am, and in that age i already tell people i love boy not girl
🧡❤🖤
@@mickycaponpon Okay? I know that but people still feel unsafe in their schools to be openly gay so YES we need to educate the younger generation too.
You make me think of the role models that we need in leadership roles.... I’m happy for good. You have a good message!
Just be proud of who you are. I will support you. I'm here for you
❤️ thank you Daniel.
I can tell you're a really good kid. Be yourself stay Brave and live your life to the fullest and stay cool, I'm proud of you
I am proud of you!!!
Well done video. Thanks for sharing, your story will help others...
Daniel Beckman 🤗
I am happy for you my friend; and be happy. Thanks for sharing your story. ☺️
It's really cool to be in South Korea, trust me if I was there for two years I would be observing their taekowndo classes. You're brave to come out after crying. I came out while crying. It felt such relief to come out before my 27th birthday. Btw it's this Friday! 🍾
You’re gorgeous and congrats on coming out babe ❤️ everything will be fine from fwd on.
That’s great Daniel that you can now live your life honestly and share with your friends and family a big part of who you are. Always be proud of the man you are and who you love. 😘
This is the first time I’m watching u and hi I’m a big fan what u say at the end about if u need some one to talk to really means a lot. + im so happy that u came out videos like this always made my day
Thanks for sharing, my coming out story involved 2 guys who outed me after experimenting with me.
Good looking, smart and brave. This video may help many. Thank you for your military service sir! Best.
Congrats on coming out! Good job on the video!
You are a beautiful person and you also have good parents (from South Korea)
Mentally healthy people do not go on online begging people to approve of them and worse imagine because they have butt sex that they are some sort of celebrity. LOL ... This has become a fad. It is no wonder gays are laughed at. They are constantly parading their drama queen lives.
When the military come up with Don't ask, Don't tell, I wish they had added Don't care. Anyone that wants to serve our Country deserves respect!!
Good for you Daniel. I don't really know you, but I'm proud of you.
Congratulations on being able to come out and that you were in a safe place an amazing family and friends, cheers to you buddy, Happy New year to you 2020#😃
👋 Kiddo, I’m glad SK turned out to be a good experience for you & that you have the love & support of your family. That means the world & hell when a person doesn’t have it. I’m glad your experience was positive. Unfortunately not everyone shares the same experience. Be safe & well 👌👍💪. Don’t let anyone mistreat you, Kiddo.
I was bullied in high school and even for a few years after. I hadn't come out but I think lots of people knew. Being called faggot hurt. Thank you so much for sharing.
Very well stated. It is still so sad that in 2020 we have to fear for our safety.
Best of everything for you!
Thank you for sharing your story! :)

Wow cool video Daniel Beckman brought soo much memories that same month i came out gay to my mom & dad October 18th 1991 when i was a freshman in hight school it was hardest thing in my life but they accept me for i am was there son they supported me
.... YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON... THANK YOU
i am actually happy that you had an accepting family like yours , the process of accepting your sexuality as an LGBTQ+ is hard , at least it was a kind of positive experience to you .
in my case i got disowned by my family for being gay . i live far away from them . but the fact that having no family members that supports you for who you are is truly painful .
