    This video is terrific, as your comparison shows us the quality of each camera in very important aspects. Your channel is very informative and interesting! Thank you.

    Thank you for this review and your honest opinion. I use a insta 360 one RS on my helmet that gets a 360 view but the perspective is often skewed so it doesn’t serve well as a cycling safety dashcam for my commutes in the city. Purchased the Fly12 last week and it’s been great so naturally am considering the Fly6Pro.

    I've been using the Varia 515 (no video capabilities) for several years and it combined with my mirror really helps me 'see' what is behind me. The 515 can detect cars about 450 ft behind (assuming a straight road). On my head unit, the cars appear as dots moving on the side of the main display. I turned off the beeping sound. I can still see if there are cars behind me while looking forward. The best part is that it tells me when there are no cars (or anything else like a faster-moving bike) behind me if I need to pass someone in front of me. For me, the 515 is just one more layer of safety. BTW - I ride in a mixed road condition area, from busy suburban roads to rural country lanes. I'll wait for the next version of the Garmin715, which, I assume, will have a better camera, image stabilization, and editing capabilities.

    The Garmin 30 second problem - this is typical of what I've come to expect from Garmin. My old 520 had so many glitches! I remember there was 1 uphill segment it would always activate the live segment feature, despite me having it turned off, and not even being a Strava premium user. Every single time, for years!

    Did quite some tests with the varia 715 if i was able to read the licences plates (yellow with black prints here) and they were all readable. Also in darker / rainy weather. The radar is just awesome. I think the info on what and how many are behind you is valuable, also the distance. There are data fields available which also indicate the speed of the approaching traffic. Hope garmin does more image stabilizing in the future. Using this radar for over two years now.

    Thank you Simon, very interesting. I owned an earlier version of the Cycliq rear facing camera and it proved its usefulness right out of the box. Unfortunately after two years use the device simply stopped working. The customer service interaction with Cycliq at that time really put me off the brand. That said, it is a more mature product than Garmin's and I would recommend it over the current Garmin camera; ideally Cycliq has improved their customer service and quality issues by now. I am a happy user of the basic Garmin Varia light/radar unit in a dense urban area and would not ride without it. It is paired with a Garmin head unit and does not beep constantly if there are multiple vehicles queued behind to overtake. Somehow it consolidates the audible alerts with multiple vehicle detections, otherwise it would drive one mad. I find the audible alerts helpful in an urban setting given the constant scanning I must do in addition to contending with other distractions on the road. It has proven to be an invaluable tool.

    The radar light has saved me a few times & yes once I did dive into a hedge ,but it saved my life .I also use a mirror .I rather get off than get squashed. It does get on my nerves if on a cycle track that turns out to be next to a busy road .

    I’m deciding on the Fly6 v/s the Fly6 Pro. As for the Garmin Varia, I love Garmin and lots of their products but Cycliq seems to be the leader in bicycle “dashcams”

    I use a Varia radar/light unit and find it invaluable here in the New Forest. I often think I hear a vehicle behind me, but it's some sort of illusion. The Varia is connected to my Garmin bike computer, and that quietly shows me if there are really any cars behind. I find this reduces my stress considerably.

      This is the same as me I didn’t think I would use it but it’s useful around the country lanes I cycle on but if you ride in a city it’s pointless as would go off all the time.

    The way I use a rear camera is to have it running in case I want to look at footage later, but usually don't. I love having a rear radar, I've used it all over the place, city and country, and I don't like riding without it. For me, the Varia radar/cam/light combo is perfect, and is one unit rather than 2 or 3. If you want to use high quality rear video all the time for some purpose, then maybe the Varia combo isn't best, but in that case I'd probably use a different rear camera anyway. To each his own of course.

    Yet another UA-camr who lives in the country and thinks that a Varia is no use in a city because it would never stop beeping. I live in London and have used a Varia for years (as well as a Cycliq Fly 6). I just turn off the beeping and it IS useful because you can "see" gaps in the traffic behind you. This is particularly useful (don't forget to tell your sceptical friend) if you are going to be turning right as, after a quick "over the shoulder" check, you can be confident in moving across to the middle of the road. Also, just because you live in a city, does not mean that you only ever cycle in the city, or even in the busy parts of a city. It's a bike - you can cycle through suburbs and into the country. Amazing!

      Thanks for your comment, and I appreciate healthy criticism, although the way I read it, it's straying a little close to being snarky.
      If you've watched my 2 reviews of the Varia (versions with and without camera) I think a rear radar is brilliant. I have used it in cities, in the UK and in France. But if you read the comments, some people don't like the beeping and I want to reflect their opinion, even if it's different to mine.
      One persons view (ie yours OR mine) is not necessarily the only opinion or the right opinion. I appreciate your comment, so thanks.

      @@alwaysanotheradventure If I sound "snarky" it is because I was put off buying a Varia by UA-camrs (not just you) saying it is no use in cities due to the constant beeping. None of the reviews I have seen (including yours) mention that you can turn off the beeping and, in any case, it is still invaluable in cities for the reasons I mention.

    I have had three fly 12 front lights which failed in wet weather. All replaced but had to cycle without a light for 3 weeks each time.

    I think a Fly Pro at rear ... with a Go Pro Hero Black (with stabilisation) at the front is the best combo.

    • @alwaysanotheradventure
      @alwaysanotheradventure  Місяць тому

      It's a great combo, and the stabilisation is superb (I'm a GoPro fan) but even the Enduro battery on the GoPro doesn't last as long as the Cycliq. Plus it's just a little more faff. That said, it's probably the best solution for a commute on the same bike every day if you can get a quick release for the GoPro or keep it in a housing so it doesn't get stolen.

      I have many video editing Apps and I could just stick them on the timeline in order. The problem is you have to download them all individually first and the Garmin App makes this a very slow, difficult process.

    Had bad experiences with both front and rear Cycliq camera lights. After 2 front light failures, I gave up and got my money back. The rear didn't fail but battery life was appalling. Australian design. Don't think they're designed for UK cold/wet weather.

    • @alwaysanotheradventure

      They had a poor reputation in the past and are aware of that. I genuinely think they're trying to change. And speak as a I find - that front camera /light has proved bombproof. (Incidentally, it does rain pretty hard in Australia! 😁 )

    Odd I just watched a very in depth review of the Garmin radar against the new trek one he was able to turn the beeping off so was only through headphones. Magicshine camera rear lights quite clear to I was looking into that but more than likely just buy one the new action cam models for the front these things cost to much dedicated bike cameras and have very little software developed in the way of anti shake, low light etc

      So do I Alan, but sadly not much use as evidence in court if you’re hit.
      In conversation, Cycling UK recommended urban riders have a camera for this reason - sad I know.

      Same here. I wouldn’t ride on the roads without a mirror. There are frequent situations where a quick glance down at the mirror tells you if something is approaching, long before you can hear it, and for turning right it’s invaluable for checking it’s safe to pull out into the middle without doing the full shoulder check. In windy conditions you often can’t rely on hearing at all and it is much easier than turning your head if all you need is a basic check that the road behind is clear. Very cheap - my came in a pair and fit in the end of the drop handlebars. I just use one, on the offside.

  • @inzana2

    Why would you buy a cycliq when for around the same price you can get an action cam with vastly better video quality? Certainly not for the addition of a mediocre 50 lumen light.

  • @obikedog
    @obikedog 15 днів тому

    I bought a Cycliq front and rear and would not recommend them or the company offering them to my worst enemy.
    1. Despite claims, it is not waterproof. Mine died after a rainy ride not long after I bought it. Now it won't come on and won't charge.
    2. Battery life is very poor - less than an hour or so with the light. Batteries are integral and cannot be replaced. Once they go or become damaged - it's a brick.
    3. Return policy is laughable. You pay to send it back to China with return postage. They decide if they will help once they get it. No warranty. No guarantees.
    4. Camera quality and image stabilization is terrible compared to a GoPro or typical device.
