maaaan, i've been twice at that hotel and had NEVER seen those papers in the 29th and 28th room, but i did went inside the zoo and i was able to see almost all of the frogs that were there in captivity and some other species of frogs
oh no its up as far as canada theyre trying to save one of their local species the spotted brown frog i think it was they say theyve got 3 lakes not infected left, i saw a related video on it and theyre talking about this hits all amphibians and i think they even said some reptiles and they also said the golden frogs are all already extint except in captivity
Either that or because the frogs keep dying, the crickets and other insects that are usually eaten by the frogs could start overpopulating. They're not just trying to preserve a species, but save the whole ecosystem from collapsing. They did say they have plans to reintroduce the frogs once the fungus problem is taken care of. On top of that, just because the fungus is natural doesn't mean it's normal. Somebody could have introduced the fungus into their habitat from somewhere else.
Sounds bad, but there is hope for the frogs. A girl frog will be immune to the fungus, and it will be up to the smuggler frog to escort her across the country to get her to the fireflies, who will use her to create a cure.
that would work for a while but after a while the host always builds a resistance, and a virus resistant fungus might cause even more damage. its a gamble, id be surprised if they tried it...
They may seem small and meaningless but you never know what creature is a keystone organism who's extinction could result an entire ecological system's collapse. Maybe these golden frogs aren't the case but at least let people like these biologists do their part and figure out what methods are needing to help these animals without criticizing their sympathy.
lol i dont roll my eyes but i dont think so, in this case i think people just happened to have some spore from somewhere and it did great in panama. how do you think the fungus and warming are connected? something like it just needed a little warmer temprature to become plague?
if only it were so easy now that its established in that environment we cant dissinfect everything its just there now this may be the end of amphibians... that would be nuts
I read there is now none left I. The wild and hasn’t been for 10 years, that video was posted about 2 years ago. And this video was made 12. So they probably were pretty much close to extinction here. If anyone is from Panama, have they seen this frog in the past 10 years?
@thecollenator: I use the @ symbol b/c comments show up linear on youtube, not under the person you are replying to. It's more for other's benefit to know the comment is in response to . Well, I just assumed since you said his English was "terrible" that you couldn't understand him. My mistake.
actually why not its happened before way before humans existed a runaway greenhouse effect happens once the methance melts and is that your educated and esteemed opinion
i get ya, but to be honest i dont see how we can save them from this fungus especially since this has been something ongoing since the 80s how do you stop a fungus in the world
@thatthat and probably get paid less than a lot of people. If that is the case then that's dedication... If he gets paid a lot more than most then he's one lucky bastard!
wow..read a science book, nature has a link and balance between ecosystems this balance takes place between the living things: plants, animals, microcelular beings and the non-living environment. humans have a mental capacity to think for themselfs, withdrawing memories at will, this gives us a great power but we can break this balance, this has been done many times. but now life is crumbling and we must fix it FAST.
I don't understand why people are rating down your comments. but seriously when I found out how much money those eco-biologist spend on those research ( this one being a total waste of monie ) I was mad as hell. can't they just breed the damn insects and leave those cute frogs alone? they are not that important.cute YES but Meh !
Does any one know if my frog is sick. He is a australian whites tree frog and right now he is a darker green with multiple bright green dots all over his body. If anyone can help me out that would be great 👍👍 👍.
@MerriestMick686 it may be replaced, but the new members of the niche may unbalance the ecosystem. However, that change can be good; only nature can determine whether a specie's presence will repair or damage a biome's ecosystem.
listen, according to your arguement, why feed the starving people? why dig them wells? why not just let nature run its course? does the suffering of those around us that are not human beings means less than our species? is their suffering lesser than ours? reguardless of how bad you feel when humans suffer, consider this, what is going to help the environment survive if we dont maintain its biodiversity? what do you think will happen when the environment is gone?
what if the population of crikets dropped because of this, now they have to make another rehabilitation place for crickets. i mean 300 crikets are alot.
I know Edgardo, he has stayed in a hostel my family has in Panama :)
He seems like such a good person and really seems to take care and pride in the conservation effort
save the frogs
Im proud to see that some people care and action to save them.
Those frogs are beautiful. I really hope the frogs will live on.
Sometimes i forget im watching youtube, thank you National Geo.
god bless you guys if it weren't for people like you our world would be even worse off
Dayum thats alot of time catching bugs. Why not just breed them?? not hard to bread crickets i do it for my bearded dragons.
Temporary...

amazing job except looking for insects every night for 6 hours lol

Did he.. HOLY FUCK HE PICKED IT UP!

02-15-20 I saw the post about phatogen chytrid fungus
Thanks for uploading!
so much for letting Nature find a way.
my pacman frog just died from chytrid a few days ago :(
man that guy works hard...6 hrs catching bugs every night, frog maintenance, and researching
That pfp is familiar...
The way it kills the cricket is COOL
THATS a good looking frog man
Sounds bad, but there is hope for the frogs. A girl frog will be immune to the fungus, and it will be up to the smuggler frog to escort her across the country to get her to the fireflies, who will use her to create a cure.
NGE Fangirl89 lol😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
thanks much for the posting guys

Nice job.
i wish nat geo's other videos weren't copyright, i loved watching them :(
@DjArpegius Give that team a frickin' nobel peace prize or funds or something! Dedication. Keep at it!
that would work for a while but after a while the host always builds a resistance, and a virus resistant fungus might cause even more damage. its a gamble, id be surprised if they tried it...
aww 3:33 is soooo cute!
I feel bad for the golden frog. I love frogs too.
Thank god that over 30 breeding programs are in progress there is a light in the end of the tunnel.they will be saved
it really camouflaged well
I love you man
You my hero!!!

TOAD GET OF THE TOAD
amazing job
They probably are it's just that you don't get sick if you touch them. Most frogs are only poisonous if you eat them.
lol i dont roll my eyes but i dont think so, in this case i think people just happened to have some spore from somewhere and it did great in panama. how do you think the fungus and warming are connected? something like it just needed a little warmer temprature to become plague?
there is an abundance of crickets in the wild and if those frogs were realeased those 300 crickets were gonna be killed anyways.
if only it were so easy now that its established in that environment we cant dissinfect everything its just there now this may be the end of amphibians... that would be nuts
humanity is a part of nature
WHAT ABOUT THE FUNGUS?
IT’S ALSO LIVING, IT NEEDS SOME FOOD TOO!
Documentary wise, NatGeo gives them a budget for the whole documentary costs.. :D
6 hrs searching for crickets in the night?!?! I wonder how much sleeping time they have...

Poor frogs. Kermitt will never eat funghi again.
SAVE THE FROGS
firstly: sorry for assuming, that was wrong.
second: lol
Wow this guy can catch bugs real good! I should learn so I don't have to buy so many from pet stores! lols
Its up to you, but I suggest pet store bugs than outside bugs because some outside bugs might carry diseases and parasites that will harm you're pet.
looks like a fun job
good people
I'm from Panamá :D
@roush158 why wasn't the yeast let into the party?
CAUSE THERE WASN"T MUSH-ROOM
カッコイイーーーー
wow, holy tedious! it's good that an extension to the zoo is being built for the froggies though :)
actually why not its happened before way before humans existed a runaway greenhouse effect happens once the methance melts and is that your educated and esteemed opinion

@DjArpegius
now THAT is an interesting job...
is it true the golden frog now only lives in captivity ?
I was thinking the same thing.
@thatthat and probably get paid less than a lot of people. If that is the case then that's dedication... If he gets paid a lot more than most then he's one lucky bastard!

i liked this guy :)
daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang. are they getting paid to do all that work? what dedicated people!
maybe putting them back will put them at risk of contracting the fungus again.
how did u reply so fast o and not end of amphiblans just end of golden frog
Aren't those crickets katydids?
I mean, this fungus extinct around 500 animals species.
Is a serious problem.
UPDATE: THERE ARE FROGS THAT HAVE BEEN IMMUNIZED FROM THE CHYTRID FUNGUS TODAY
great comment medic !

the frogs are dieing because a fungus evolved faster than the frogs
BD was transported by humans
Catching wild bugs ,can the wild caught bugs carry the fungus to the clean frogs
Is it just me or does that native guy with an accent sounding like Tommy Wiseau? :D
even if they didn t capture the crickets the frogs woulg still eat them so there is no diffrence.
thats exactly what i think it is
Does any one know if my frog is sick. He is a australian whites tree frog and right now he is a darker green with multiple bright green dots all over his body. If anyone can help me out that would be great 👍👍 👍.
whoever paying this guys, its not enough
:o what did they say!?!?!
cute little thing
@thecollenator: how can you not understand him? His English is fine.
no the reason they cant be put back is because they have to breed and their skin are delicate
They have biting crickets? Is there anything in the jungle that doesn't bite?
@MerriestMick686 it may be replaced, but the new members of the niche may unbalance the ecosystem. However, that change can be good; only nature can determine whether a specie's presence will repair or damage a biome's ecosystem.
Dude i'm so sad now...
lol i replied so fast cause im just sitting here killing time while i digest before i workouot i check out a video go home and see comments

we can't save them because they're dangerous to us? I don't know much about venomous animals, so please explain
we cant save them if theyre venomous???
becuz, no one likes moss, people like frogs
Why don't they breed the crickets?
@thecollenator: same here.
why they will release them to the wild when they can get the fungus again
hi guys, i am from Panama i have seen this frog... and in many schools they used to open frogs but now no....FUCKING FUNGUS!!!!
what if the population of crikets dropped because of this, now they have to make another rehabilitation place for crickets. i mean 300 crikets are alot.
now the crickets go extinct
poor froggys :(
poisonous is the term anyway
if thats the case theyre kinda extinct already if theyre only gonna be alive in zoos now
@sciphon27 yea foot fungus too
why cant they be put back?
