I had seen that Liszt had transcribed this piece, but always thought "no way this can be done effectively," and thus never listened to it...until now. Absolutely incredible. The pianist's ability to prioritize melodic balance among his hands and fingers is off the charts! I was completely enthralled throughout.
I still love Bolet's performance, but this man is a phenomenon. Unbelievable! Tempo unabated to the end, even with his own additions to the textures. I heard him once live, and my reaction was the same. He is no fake. He could do everything one hears here.
First off, dear mother of God this is beautiful. Secondly, Cziffra is so natural and comfortable with Liszt (not only technically). Well, no surprises there...
Thank you so much for uploading the full version of this incredible rendition of Liszt's transcription of the piece....... Cziffra was truly graced by god
What cziffra does at 11:20 is absolutely mindblowing. I can only dream of being a tenth as good as he is... and to think of how crazier he might be if his wrist had never been injured!
When the world gets to me and I am on the verge of slipping into depression (as happens frequently), I listen to music like this, performed by people like this man. And I cry....
Thanks for posting, haven't heard anyone play this very hard and technical piece like him! -Cziffra was a really great artist and a man who had suffered greatly from the political system of his country - We were very fortunate that he survived and gave us his talent!!
+Keith Jean Untouchable technique. Peak human, borderline superhuman. I truly wonder how (and if) Liszt himself could better this monstrous display of prowess.
+Keith Jean I'm not the biggest fan of Cziffra but damn, this is an extraordinary performance. I've never heard anything like it and I know this work like the back of my hand. Sure the technique may be ridiculously good but his interpretation is musically gorgeous, a real beauty!
auerod liszt played almost all of his works in public and considering the difficulty of his douze grandes etudes and his first set of pagannini etudes he could play this as well
@@LisztianGR Did you know that Liszt, in fact, struggled to perform this piece? It is said that he stopped playing in the middle of the piece due to exhaustion. This not an uncommon occurence for even the greatest virtuosi however, and perhaps Liszt was not well-rehearsed at the time or simply thought his performance was not good enough.
What a truly fine audio recording. My favourite pianist playing one of my favourite composers music arranged by my favourite pinanist composers for piano - just incredible.
I've never heard such a wonderful piano ... I cried all the way ... wonderful ... and wonderful the greatest actors... both Wagner, Liszt and Cziffra ... thanks ...
Sorry to be off topic but does any of you know of a method to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the password. I would love any assistance you can offer me!
Several pieces reviewed and currently this is indeed the best version which does not sacrifice musical depth with technical obstacles. Tempo is strictly according to Wagner.
To think that during the rehearsals for the original production of Tannheusrer the entire viola section threatened to walk out because their part was too difficult.
Cziffra is one of the greatest. No doubt. But its a pity that when the octaves start he is mainly concentrating on the technique, the theme doesnt exist anymore.
Merely a different interpretation concentrating on the catastrophic effect at the end rather than having the octaves as a background embellishment as interpreted by most other pianists. I think its unique and sounds better
Este homem é sobrenatural tocando uma obra também sobrenatural. Tem uma outra interpretação magnífica de mestre......Jorge Bolet...1974...Carnegie Hall desta mesma obra...ele muito jovem...

It’s like finding a recording of Liszt himself. I imagine people were (at least) as astonished by Liszt as we are of this. Undeniably incredible.
astonished , indeed . but hardly amused …...
In Liszt Cziffra is untouchable by anyone on this earth....forever

Wagner-Liszt-Cziffra…the trinity of true geniuses.
👍👍👍

Cziffra's technique is insane, I've never heard someone own this piece the way he does in this recording. Thanks for posting!

+LisztianGR I seriously doubt it. Same thing goes for his contemporary Alkan.

Only Cziffra can play the base melody at the end as an uninterrupted line!
Can’t be even truer
Mr. Hu. , please, never compare two artists here at you tube! NEVER! Norah de Almeida ( from Brasil)

Какой пианист, чудо!!!!!! Но рань ше мы его не знали или кто то что то слышал...... А жизнь какая трагичная.......
Quelle puissance lyrique!!! J'en reste sans voix...
Cziffra performs for our lisztening pleasure!
Piano sounds very rich, deep and gorgeous .
Forever grateful for the complete recording! Thank you!!!
There wasn't ovation, the crowd passed out.
FANTASTIC
Tecnicamente superlativo..inarrivabile, ma continuo a preferire l’interpretazione di Bolet dal vivo a NY
Astounding !
Shivering - I feel young Wagner
To think that during the rehearsals for the original production of Tannheusrer the entire viola section threatened to walk out because their part was too difficult.
I gave up playing this work when I come to at the end !
I know what you feel. Never give up.
Thanks. I will give it another try.
Meraviglia!!!!!!!!
Colors like no other performance. The splices are rather distracting, however.
Это шедевр! Все!
Well, he was the best..
Epic!
It's clearly nothing like hard enough so around 11'30" he casually adds a few dozen extra notes.
In Wagner ascoltiamo l'Ungheria di Cziffra e Listz
Astonishing
Wow
Kedvenc!
Wow
He could also change pitch on the piano.
How come the piano tuning shifts back and forth throughout the audio?
This recording is unfortunately many recordings spliced into one.
@@KenWangpiano *Badly* spliced.

@@cziffrathegreat666 I like it too. it is also so difficult and exhausting to play it as fiercely as Cziffra does
