    He might not have had the chops of Dizzy and others, but that sound, and just so much soul.
    One of the all time greats.

      It's not came from his tone. He was nick-named as "Sweets" by Lester Young. Description in the Wikipedia is correct. "Drummer Elvin Jones explained the origin of Edison's nickname: "Sweets had so many lady friends, he was such a handsome man. He had all these girls all over him all the time, that's why they called him Sweets."
