- Vernon Maxwell was an NBA Champion with the Houston Rockets in 1994, and then in 1995 he left the team during another championship run. Mad Max is Houston Rockets Royalty.....H Town ROYALTY..... regardless of how things went....
Facts. He can go anywhere in H-Town and get love
I read after Rockets home games that he used to go to some of the shadiest hoods in Houston and roll dice on the corner for hours 😂😂.
I believe it. That's why they didn't play yo ass.
Absolutely.
As a houston native this was the talk of the town but we love Clyde as well because he played high school ball in Houston
And don't forget him at U of H "Phi Slamma Jamma"
😂😂. I love Max but the Rockets probably didn’t tell him that Clyde was coming because they knew how he would react to the news..
A real mufucka like Max gon respect when you keep it 💯 guarantee his reaction was more explosive not being told opposed to being told ahead of time. Know who you dealing with
@@702TifosiGambleryou can tell Max wasn’t gonna have no issue if they told him “Hey we bringing Clyde in and you can run the 2nd unit” .
@@702TifosiGamblerI’m not saying he is or isn’t, but being a hot head doesn’t make you real. This entire clip he waffles back and forth between being accountable and playing the victim. You’ve gotta stand on one side of the fence.
@@Patawon now being a hot head doesn’t make you real but Max has proven he’s authentic and that’s what I care about, real or not real doesn’t move the needle for me. He’s authentic and he’s recounting a story that further confirms that
@Patawon I don't understand when he was a victim or when he played like he was a victim because he took accountable for the way he acted and missed the bag. Name 1 person that has talked shit about Gary Payton other than Vernon Maxwell?
Opening line about slapping the white guy went from 😂 to 😢 real quick
Dam straight. I applaud Max for going after that a-hole.
It's sad the league didn't support him.
White boy owner fired his black ass
How could anyone comment on such a tragedy situation, God Blessed, Mad Max!
🙏🏿
The nickname Mad Max fit him very well. ain't no question about that. My all time favorite memory of him is Game 3 in Phoenix down 0-2. He saved the series. No doubt about it.
Vernon Maxwell keeps his stories honest from being slapped himself to slapping a fan to talking $h;+ to Jordan to asking Jordan to take a picture with his son to owning all of his choices in the NBA......
Yes he is authentic
Man, I sure love hearing his viewpoint. He’s got an authenticity and honesty that makes him so relatable. He owns his mistakes, but still is emotional about his misgivings as well the way he was mistreated. I hope he does more of this stuff!
Thats exactly who that guy is!!
Don’t feel bad Maxwell they traded damn near the whole team for Barkley couple years later and Houston was never the same after that
Yea it was over with after that
@@vickmcfadden833
Yeah team got old and slow traded off all the young talent. But we did finally beat Seattle because of Barkley. I haven’t forgotten that.
Be specific. Key pieces: Sam Cassell and Robert Horry
@@theamazingmr.ripleyizzythe9601
Houston wasn't going to win with Cassel and horry. They got swept in 1996 in the semis
I’m glad we won the championship that year, but I always hated how things ended with Max…
I was leaving a friend's house one day and as I was getting in my car a white Ferrari pulls up.. Vernon Maxwell gets out of it. I was stunned but my friend introduced me to him. He was the coolest basketball player I ever met at the time. He even let me look inside his car lol
The Houston Rockets were a memorable team that had the heart & spirit of a champion. Maxwell was a key contribution. Props
You will never hear a player today talk like this. Today is the worst era in history.
The passion, fire, truth VM talks with is❤️.

I loved maxwell, Ottis thorpe, Kenny smith, Robert horry, buck johnson, sleepy floyd, Sam cassel, Matt Bullard, Mario Eli, Derrick chevvis, and later on Clyde the glide with the dream Olajuwon of the 90s rockets team was fun to watch
For 20+ yrs I've been said that Clyde should ve moved to the SF 3spot and kept Max at the shooting guard . Clyde was a strong 6'7 they could've made it work with Horry at Power Forward
Clyde is one of the best shooting guards ever. Not a small forward
@jfinns13 more like best all around players . Where as he was stronger than most 2guards and more quicker athletic than most small forwards in his Prime. Eventhough on paper he was a shooting guard at 6'7 however his playstyle was like a dynamic SF or even point forward with his passing skills & court vision
@@carlwallace1129 he played with solid pgs and small forwards. He was not a point forward. He played his position better than everybody. He was relentless.
@jfinns13 true he wasn't a point forward but he was strong like a SF (wing)at 6'7 in his era and distributed the ball smooth like PG with his great court vision
@@carlwallace1129 as a child to me he played like he wanted to fly. Like the first time I saw Nique. But you dont want those guys covering each other.
I always freak out about the 94-95 rockets because Mad Max and Big Shot Bob have always been my fave players and they played together wow
Happy that Clyde was able to be apart of championship team. All those times coming up short in finals. He had very good production in that 95 playoff run as well. Well rounded game. Gave Hakeem lot of help.
Loved Otis Thorpe on that Houston Rockets team.
I heard from what Max said ,that one of the reason Is he left the rockets is that is he beet up a White person because he offended a member of his family ( for what I understand and approve. If I was in Vern place, and someone talked shit, about my loved ones and family. Regardless off what race, ethnicity or religion is I probably react like him), but is shitty than no one of his teammates stood behind him. I know that , this is only Vernon's side of the story. But if his teammates, said that they were was his side, and than they lett him down when it mattered. Than VM did the right thing. F all of them. One question to the all of the participants of the podcast: I read and kind of get to that the majority of the NBA players, get racist slurs from the crowd. And probably there are many owners ( governors) racist. But I want to know is in the time of their playing career ( Mad Max, Shred and Bonzi) was there any players and coaches a racists. Don't matter what color there are, black, white , yellow, red or others.
Life long Rocket Fan ....Max is my favorite player
People I work with were acquaintance not friends. We were an outstanding work team but we didn’t hang out.
HTown got nothing but love for Mad Max!
Mad Max is a straight G no 🧢 real SG and real enforcer as a “GUARD” too much love

Mad Max was unhinged 😂😂
His name is what? 😂😂

that would be a dope podcast name
@vision176 Mad Max Unhinged, definitely has a ring to it. Vernon hit us up lol jk.
Maxwell is smoking dust. He sounds like a complicated teammate which he really was. I got mad props for that 95 team. A 47 win team went through 4 straight 60 win teams on their way to a back to back. Rockets weren't winning nothing with Maxwell and Drexler basically buried him at the end of the bench
I ran into Max several times in the HOOD, I’m talking bout the trenches, smoking weed and shooting dice and 2,days later I’d see him on TV dropping 21🤷🏿♂️….he’s everything he says he is-- HOUSTON💪🏾
They was scared you was gone slap somebody...😆 🤣 😂
Even speed is saying, this dude is crazy. Max is the best.
Randomly but repeatedly bumping into Max at Taco Cabana 4:30ish am after a night out...some of my fondest 90's Htwn memories
Mad Max was the man. Loved watching him play. Loved his fire. Favorite Rockets team was the team before the team.... 93 Rockets. We got hosed in Seattle. Would have loved getting the opportunity to play the Suns for the chance to play the Bulls for everything. That team was ready. We wouldn't have to have these conversations about whether we could have beat Jordan's Bulls.
Its good to see and hear from “Fam!”
Mannnn he was being very honest and humble and willing to let his pride down when he admitted he mistakenly lost his opportunity to get his money that next year……
When i was in the military saw lots of guys like Max get booted out the service. Some had emotional and mental issues that got magnified while on active duty ( there's lots of stress in the military ) and they'd do very strange and freaky stuff ( like Max did )then discharged. Then you had the guys who had discipline issues, always doing either stupid &&&& or doing drugs to purposely get kicked out, because they hated being in the military.
RAW SHAW STERLING HIGH SCHOOL CLYDE IS HTOWN - VERNON WAS ALWAYS AT SCOTT GERNERS ON RICHMOND BUT FIRST HE WENT TO 3 WARD TO GRAB SOME CHRISTINA AGUILARA
How about the time Max got pistol whipped in 3rd Ward for trying to buy coke with counterfeit money?
Hey, he didn't know the money was counterfeit. Probably....And 3rd Ward could be dicey. Not as wild as 5th Ward, though...
Boy got that Samuel l Jackson vocabulary 😂
❤ 🙏🏻🙏🏻I talked ta Max about this at a club over some drinks in 1996 in Portland Oregon what a hell of a night hanging with him and Blazers crew and I was clowning Dominique Wilkins about his black turtle neck hitting on 21 22 year olds it was funny as hell but the sports reporters did a whole segment on Max and he was unaware of the episode and how the guy admitted to sating what he said about his still born daughter but now people knew rhe truth and the sprts reporters cast had alot of sympathy and understanding about it u let him know about it in the most respectful way and he really appreciated from me bought me a drink and went dancing with some ladies and had alot of laughs and great times that night with everyone always wondered if he remembers me telling him about that getting sympathy and understanding finally from the sports world and NBA fans as news I'm sure got around I just know I was the first ta let him know about it as I belive it was on the morning before the gane that night in Portland ❤Much love always Vernon❤
Said Dream had David in a popcorn machine. 😭😭😭 I love OG’s. 🙏
We love Vernon in Houston but the 95 Rockets were struggling out of the gate. Vernon lost his starting job and got pissed. I get it. He was a major component of the team.
However, that Clyde trade ended up being (Arguably) the best mid season trade of all time considering the immediate dividend was a Title that same year.
I Can't think of another trade that brought a title to a team, the same season, in any sport.
They continued to give the MVP trophy before games years after the ‘95 game with Dream. 😂
Well, the things was none of the other candidates were in attendance for the ceremony for those games.
If they had handled the situation better, and kept Mad Max playing in just a little bit smaller role, then maybe they would have had enough firepower the following season in 1996 to be more competitive against the Sonics when they got swept!
Most of those games were competitive with only one blowout if I remember correctly so maybe Max added to that team pushes them to win some of those close games.
If they don't get swept that year or if the won that series and advanced then maybe Horry and Cassell don't get traded for a past-his-prime Barkley in 1997!
Love Mad Max but he was a hothead. He quit on the team when they needed him the most. But he's still loved in the H and will forever be an H-Town legend.
Max will always be an integral part of Htown’s first title. Would’ve been great to keep him. Would’ve made us a better team, and maybe we
Run it back for a 3rd. Loved his spirit, and his D.
he was the energy on the Team
I was at the game when Harden got an MVP presented to him a few years ago. I was in the 3rd row from a friend who got tickets from his job. I forgot what game it was, it wasn't in the playoffs though.
I looked it up. It was October 17th 2018 vs the Pelicans (when they still had Anthony Davis) which was the start of the new season. Rockets lost that game.
Seeing his attitude today, imagine what it was then. Rockets were tired of his BS.
At least he still got his second championship Ring
5:09 Max is wrong about the Rockets starting out bad in 1994-95. They opened that season 9-0. After that though, things went downhill quickly.
Maxwell 11 that boy he a hooper 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 nba hall of famer
Love Max cause he talked crazy to mj . Didn't bow like everyone else.
I’ve heard enough stories with this guy . I don’t blame Houston at all for getting Clyde and getting rid of maxwell
I’ve heard enough too! And me neither, Drexler was a much better player & wasn’t an issue like this dude either. Imagine how many rings Glide & Dream could’ve perhaps won together if they were together sooner.
Oh, we remember Max. That crap still stings.

@@treyneal8837 he said he played 1 minute. he actually played 16. why would I need to see the game to point out he's full of shit.
He wasn't nearly as good as he thinks and he was a shitty teammate. Rockets kicked his ass to the curb and did just fine without him.
He also claims he spent 9 years with the Rockets, he was there 6 years. He’s got shit backwards.
I was just about to look it up…
I love Max. He’s one of my favorite rockets, but I think at that time in the playoffs he would’ve been too much of a disruption and they wouldn’t have won that second title.

Maxwell shot the Rockets out of series before and he could also catch fire and be a big contributor to the teams success. Overall he was kind of a break when player when it comes to contribution, but he was the 2nd leading scorer in the 94' Finals... 13ppg on 36% FG!

Max talked like Bird but didn't play like Bird lol
They’re not even comparable.
Missed the shot on purpose and quit. All because he was butt hurt. The Rockets were dragging ass that year and they needed the lift that HOF Clyde provided. What Max did was so selfish. He’s still trying to sound hard and gangster at what? 57 years old? He was a great defender but a mental midget and struggled to shoot 39%. His head took him out of games all the time. He’d score 30 and then score 3 the next game. Playing with Clyde could have really helped his game too. Maybe he would’ve been a starter in the league for more than just 1 more season. We all make mistakes but at some point we gotta own them without blaming others. Max was a bricklayer who was out of control and getting suspended and he didn’t understand why we got Clyde? It literally would take 30 seconds of self introspection to come to the conclusion that he was 100% in the wrong without any excuses attached. Looks like he never even did that.
Why does Max look like a Black Joe Rogan?
Probably because he doesn’t
Well bad decisions that all, no player it’s more important than the team
I lost all respect for Maxwell when he abandoned the team after Clyde took his starting position. Houston won the championship without him. Why doesn't someone ask him about the time he was pistol whipped in 3rd Ward for trying to buy coke with counterfeit money?
