Reading some posts, I have to respond even though I am not related to this video, just a retired ASE Master Tech. Use a digital multi-meter to identify your LED lamp as they are polarity sensitive. What's that? Using the ohms setting, two terminals for the LED with show no resistance one way, and 470 ohms the other way. (Yours may vary) On a 12 volt circuit, a 460 ohm resistor is used as a current limiter for the LED as it operates about 0.030 amps. White LED's are different from RED, so check. The diode side of the LED, will block voltage from the DMM from passing thru it. Use your DMM to identify the "ON" or "OFF" terminals is easy. A switch like this, with a 2 amp rating must use a relay for automotive use. When the system is charging, you may have 13.2 when hot outside or 14.3 when cold. Let's use 14.5 volts DC and ohms law to workout the amps issue. A headlamp pulls about 4 amps, while a blower fan uses 12 -15 amps. If system (Or circuit you build) includes a relay, the coil side (Terminals 85 / 86) will measure 40, 80 or 90 ohms as relays are different. If system voltage is 14.5, the relay coil is 90 ohms, the current is 0.161 amps. 80 ohms is 0.181 amps, 40 ohms is 0.363 amps. This is well below the rating of the switch, but if the relay is rated for 30 amps or 40 amps, you can control a cooling fan that runs at 35 amps. This is why a relay is required for a low current circuit to control a high current device. Small wires at the switch and large gauge wire at the device and fuse power supply. If the switch has external terminals for the LED lamp and an internal resistor, use ground as constant, then supply power to turn it on, using the terminal that is hot when turn on. This makes it easy to wire it to come one when voltage is switched on for the fan, lights, wipers, etc. There are videos from "Afrotechmods" on youtube that will teach you more...and using your DMM. He makes funny, short to the point and easy to understand vids. ASE Master since 78.
BostonSean, No, this DC systems only. He is using LED’s but mentioned fan, lights and other. Your garbage disposal is household current meaning 120 Volt A/C for alternating current. It only takes 0.006 thousands of an amp to kill you. I never install or used an “ Air Switch “ The the principle behind them is air pressure pushing on a sealed diaphragm to turn on or off an A/C rated switch that can handle the amperage rating on sticker found on disposal. So could say 10 amps start, 7 amps continuous. Their is an higher flow of current when copper is cold, even light bulbs. I would use a simple good quality light switch to turn on and off. Hot tubs or spas use air switches too. On GM’s and others, but passengers front seat cushion with air bag have an air switch sorta. It has air but gel filled if anything less than 42 lbs. is in the seat, the right front air bag deployment is cancelled. It use a small 5 Vdc strain sensor, ground and reference signal back to the deployment module. It makes the on/off decision. It is also the one people hate because it has a recording loop of 15 seconds maybe more, but records speed, braking, calculated engine load even gas pedal operation and stores this loop electronically. The highway patrol and others have the same company software and equipment to read and display after accident. Stick with a light switch and label it garbage disposal, it works and 99% of houses use them.

A fuse is highly recommended, but a relay is not necessary. The relay is only used if you want your switch to be powered when they key is in ACC or RUN mode. If you want these switches to activate something whether your car is on or off, you can skip the relay.

That's just an LED strip for a computer case, right? If it's just a few LED's you won't need a relay. You will probably have to cut off the SATA connector to wire it with this switch though.

Check out the diagram at 1:12 - Simply eliminate the relay and have the green lines go to the positive of the Arduino (instead of going to the 85 connection on the relay.) Good luck! There's also a link to a diagram in the video description!
My switch comes with a plug connector with five wires, RED is positive LED, BLACK is negative LED, GREEN is common pin "C", BLUE is NO pin and YELLOW is NC pin ... my guess is that my HOT will go to the RED wire and my GROUND will go to the BLACK wire ... then I get lost ... I am only providing power to a panel which then runs everything out through relays, I could connect my HOT power from my cigarette lighter directly to my panel, but with the switch I can tell when it is powered up ... I just don't know which wires to send the switched power to the panel and light the LED?
