Lula Roe is Still the Worst

  • I talk about my personal experience with Lula Roe and why I was featured in the Amazon Documentary Lula Rich. In short, the brand sells over priced, poorly made goods, that don't fit well to women who may not know any better. They are predatory and take advantage of people by selling them an unattainable dream. Lula rich is a scam, a pyramid scheme, and took advantage of so many people- most mlms do.

    Thank you for being so honest about it. Companies like lularoe prey on new moms, and single moms by tricking them into thinking that they are "not putting their family first". I was personally roped into a beauty MLM at 16 years old, with the promise of "oh, you'll sell SOOOO much! You'll make SOOO much money!" MLM's are everywhere. Cooking utensils, travel, clothing, makeup, skincare, EVERYWHERE. And some are very cleverly concealed, by being under multiple names.

    Yes! MLMs are scams. The real customers are the "sales reps", and everyone else is a second hand buyer. Real companies don't require you to purchase their products in order to sell them back to other people.

      It was like quicksand for the retailers. They buy 100 pieces, but can only sell 40 because the other 60 are fugly. Have to buy more pieces, and the cycle continues. Never actually make much of a profit because only a fraction of the inventory is actually sellable. Let's not even get into the amount of textile waste LuLaRoe contributed along with what I suspect are ethically ambiguous overseas labor practices.

    Wow... I'm an ex-TV producer (local + network news) and the production company *should* have cleared all 3rd party material (meaning any footage/photos you aren't the copyright license holder of) used in the documentary. Sometimes news outlets risk the legal liability and attempt to 'fair use' material, but LuLaRich is a bit different in my opinion because it's a clear cut commercial project, whereas newscasts tend to be more on-the-fly and on tight deadlines for air. Contacting you to license your footage and include you with interviews (of course WITH compensation), I feel would have really added to the piece.
    Was never into LuLaRoe clothing, and I was one of the original viewers of your OG video. It was way ahead of its time.

    • @weeniehutjr9977

      this is incorrect. they did not have to gain permission to use her content as she does not have ownership of it. in order to use this platform, you retain copyright but not distribution. you relinquish your ability to govern what can be done with your content. i’m not saying it’s right - i’m just stating that it is the price paid for using the platform. and because this is so, they did not have to contact her directly to use her footage. because they don’t need her permission and she’s not entitled to any royalties.

    Imagine making a video about how a brand is shady as crap...only for it to end up being used without permission or compensation in a film about how that brand is shady. The Irony! I hope you go after the folks that made the documentary for THEIR shady nonsense!

    • @SewingReport
      @SewingReport 2 роки тому +10

      Yes, there is no excuse for the production company NOT to clear the footage for use with Anna. In my opinion, their argument for 'fair use' is pretty weak, they are just counting on Anna not taking any legal action due to cost of an attorney. It happens all the time with media outlets - they take the legal risk using 3rd party material (stuff you don't own the copyright) because they consider the license holder (owner) to be "low risk." If it's "high risk" they will reach out to the person and get permission. I used to work at CNN, and they have an entire department called Rights & Clearances just dealing with that one aspect. I personally licensed many videos / photos on behalf of the company. Some individuals let us use their material for free or with an on-screen courtesy, others requested payment. It's really not that complicated, you get in touch with the license holder and explain what you're doing and they fill out a release form electronically. But this documentary is obviously a commercial project, and differs a bit from something like a newscast.

      they didn’t do anything wrong. she does not own the distribution rights to her content. no one on youtube does. you relinquish those rights when you agree to the terms and conditions of using the platform. she only retains copyright, but her videos can be used by others without her exclusive permission. she is not entitled to royalties. i’m not saying it’s right, i’m saying that the producers of the documentary operated well within the limits of the law.

    • @weeniehutjr9977
      @weeniehutjr9977 2 роки тому +1

      @@SewingReport that’s wrong. it’s not considered fair use actually. but that doesn’t matter. anna may own the copyrights of her videos, but she relinquished her distribution rights in the terms and conditions. by using this platform, she has granted both youtube and users the right to distribute her content and reproduce it without liability. she does not have the rights to her video. she would only have the exclusive rights if she uploaded on a website in which she is the domain owner.

      UK MLM (pyramid schemes) would be Avon, Scentsy and fragrance FM for example. MLMs are where someone has a Facebook group/host parties selling the products and they have an upline who gets some of their profit and they are encouraged to recruit people to sell. I’m sorry the filmmakers took your footage out of context, it seems kind of weird to do so when you were already anti-LLR in the first place??

    MLMs can be so cult-like, so when their reality is challenged they get nasty. I'm sorry you dealt with all of that and I'm glad their predatory practices are more known to the public.

    I remember finding that video when I first started watching your channel (it wasn’t the first one I saw, but I remember I didn’t know your channel that well yet). You were so refreshingly honest and upfront with your criticisms, it made me respect your opinions even more. So it actually shocked me when I read the comments, because people were being mean and often blatantly fatphobic, which I hadn’t seen often in your other comment sections. It really made me wary of ever commenting on the brand, and I wasn’t even the one those comments were targeting. I can’t imagine dealing with that much concentrated outrage and cruelty. I’m glad you’re vindicated now, but I’m sorry you went through all that. Even if Lularoe wasn’t a scam - which it comfortably is - no one deserves to be the focus of that much hate just because they don’t like something.

    The worst part of the documentary is they sellers they interviewed were only the ones on high up on the pyramid. They portrayed them as victims (which they can be to an extent) when in fact they were the ones exploiting other women.

      She certainly could, but the legal cost of doing so likely would outweigh the financial benefit. Entities like media outlets or production companies often count on that when considering the legal risk of using 3rd party material (anything you don't own the copyright) in their projects. I'm an ex-news producer and I do *not* believe the documentary has a strong argument for fair use. It would have been easy for someone with the production to reach out to Anna and ask to license / use the footage. I did it frequently while working in TV.
      EDIT: Professional sports & music industry are THE most hardcore for cracking down on copyright infringement.

    If you been involved with an MLM and left with unsold products and unrealized dreams that were made to look so attainable if you just did A and B but the problem is, they never tell you, only 0.05% ever make it to C, and the ones making it to C got in at the ground floor or bought so much product themselves to make it appear they were so successful.

    Sometimes it hurts when you have an honest backbone, moral fortitude and the bravery to have an opinion in general. I empathize with you because I spoke up in the workplace for lots of others and in the end they didn’t back me up because they were cowards. So sad, I have mad respect for you, Gal! Don’t buy into the woke, into the follower mentality, be a genuine you and a true individual! You are great! PS. This is the edit part, you earned a new subscribe from this Gal!

    Ditto, just about everyone who commented before me. 💖 Thank you for making that first haul video and being honest.
    Of course, I too found you 5 years ago because I was thinking about buying some Lula Roe stuff, I wanted the loose/swing dresses. I was Googling to figure out HOW to find a Lula Roe outlet to buy their plus sized garments and was seriously confused and puzzled by all the timed out and not usable facebook links, till I watched your haul. 🤨 So...thank you for saving me!!! Because watching your review of the buying process and the reality of what finally arrived, made me realize that there was no way in h*** that I would ever give that company even one penny. You are a treasure! 🥰

Holy shizzz 😳 I totally went down an unexpected rabbit hole today, however I came across your video, and I loved it! I don't normally watch a lot of UA-cam, but I instantly loved your content, not to mention your style of delivering that content. You are phenomenal! You have a new fan, and I even subscribed! NO PRODUCT is so amazing that you can’t find something similar and probably just as good or better without supporting shady business practices. Thanks for speaking out, being honest, and being YOU 😁

    I didn't get the impression that you were a seller of LuLa Rue clothing from the documentary; however, I saw your video about LuLa Rue when it came out so I had context. And I thank you for that video because people around me were just starting to talk about it LuLa Rue and I was able to avoid the product. By the way, I've seen your clips in 3 different videos or ads. I don't remember the other two but I did comment previously when I saw one. I knew they stole your footage because they identified you with a fake name (it was a balcony shot from one of your Miami videos when you lived in NYC).

    I found your channel because I was personally critical of Lu La Roe after having a bad experience buying a dress off of a friend who was selling it. It definitely wasn’t made for Plus Sizes and it was poor quality, too. I was worried for my friend who was waaaayyyy into the b.s. but I thought I was crazy for thinking that way. Then I found your video and was relieved that you were being honest about it and aligned with my thinking. Thank you for saying what I was thinking!! I’ve subscribed ever since and always look to you for refreshing honesty about everything you review. You’re a wonderful content creator and I’m so happy I subscribe! Much love to you :-)
