I'm not here to argue with you, just to mention that while Sumption is very articulate, I find his stance on taking the vaccine to be a logical fallacy, considering his stance on masks and the lockdown. He criticizes governments like they are a different set of people from the pharmaceutical industry. That's the biggest gov lobbyists in the US. Government is not a different group of elites. It is the mechanism of the elites. Sumption is criticizing the mechanism, not actually who's using it.

@@rachelbutler9105 his education is beside the point I'm afraid. You can read his own words in defence of politicians in his book Trials of the State. It's an excellent book. Also, I understand the desire for technocrats (what you're essentially describing) to take charge, but they have downsides too when it comes to politics. It all boils down to how you view the world. Put absolute power in the hands of a few very capable and intelligent people, you get something like Singapore, which is probably too authoritarian for British sensibilities, and somewhat more at risk of falling into the wrong hands. Johnson is, for all his obvious faults, still surprisingly popular among the electorate. So there's the argument that the electorate gets what it deserves. But something does need to change, we in the West cannot continue to choose such incompetent or, in another sense, toothless and ineffective leaders. We continue to have some of the best quality of life standards in all the world, but we'll soon fall behind the efficient and forward thinking Asian states in terms of competitiveness, and no doubt quality of life will follow in tow.

Yes, I watched and listened to every word of it.
''Lord Sumption was highly critical of the government's handling of the Covid-19 outbreak. ''
Indeed he was and has been from the inception. However, perhaps you can explain to me how a person can on one hand be critical of gov. policy whilst advocating not only the vaccination programme , but the mandatory introduction of Health Passports. Particularly in the vein that the vaccination programme, continuity of testing and Health Passports have always been integral components of gov. agenda.
Do you opine that Lord Jonathan Sumption QC doesn't understand the implications of vaccine passports and is oblivious to the long term health implications of an untested, experimental vaccine. His hypothesis appears to be that the potential consequences of adverse health effects and digital enslavement are lesser evils than lockdowns which are not permanently enforcible in any event.
Lord Sumption is a rather obvious 5th columnist whose connections to the Blair gov. go back nearly 20 yrs. How do you suppose a practising QC managed to get appointed to the Supreme Court, an unprecedented appointment for a QC with no previous judgeship experience and here he is in 2021 advocating Health passports . There’s no prizes for guessing who is in charge of promoting Health Passports, it is indeed the right hon. A Blair who is in turn funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Isn’t that a coincidence, would you not concur.

Actually, the role of a Supreme Court judge carries less responsibility than that of a trial judge, if for no other reason, the former is only one of a number of others, thereby allowing any mistakes to be rectified by fellow judges prior to delivering judgement..
Whereas a single trial judge carries full responsibility for any legal errors made in the duration of a trial. For instance summations, admissibility of evidence, counsel's conduct et al. which could reverse a verdict upon appeal.

If you think he means anything else, you're not listening to what he's saying, you're listening to what you think he is saying after it has been passed through your self-deceiving-perception-filter.
Conservatism is not a one-dimensional monolith that exists only as you see it in your mind. You cannot in reasonable conscience distort the actions and words of others in the image of your misrepresentation.
If you think I'm right-wing because of what I've said here, then your expectations and metrics are inaccurate.
If you think I'm lying to confuse you, you're really too far gone. Honestly, I've had people actually think I'm really a "right-winger" trying to "trick" them into thinking I'm not conservative.
In truth, I don't like the label and the stereotypes evoked by the labels of either side, especially when it doesn't really map onto a one-dimensional continuum either.
Part of the world's problem is that we like to see the world in black and white, and overextend the purview of what can be useful oversimplifications. We must recognise them as just that, oversimplifications that serve as a tool that can be useful in limited contexts, otherwise we run the risk of misrepresenting the world itself by proxy.

I’ve had the Rona. Why can’t I go back to normal? This is a Casedemic, not a Pandemic

Sound advice from Lord Sumption as one would expect. Why are the government seemingly not asking for nor following such advice?

There is a clear difference in the rules for the wealthy and those for the rest of us. Exactly what you would expect from a Tory government.

You can also go to view prospective homes. The estate agents are going to be overrun with fake enquiries and the brochures will fly off the shelves 'as proof'.

People also don't realise that once the World Health Organisation announces "Pandemic", the membere are obliged to take a certain approach.
At the end of the day, I think the likes of Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock, Chris Whitty and Patrick Valance would be thinking very differently about the decisions they're making and their approaches, if they were actually affected in any way by them, which they aren't!.

With advice to take vitamin D at high doses we need have had no lockdowns or financial penury. The whole situation is manufactured to drive drug company profits. Now vaccines out the NHS is no longer vulnerable so restrictions need not apply

Having watched and listened for a few moments I became joyfully distracted by Jonathon's little idiosyncratic body shimmy to his right such that I substituted the Bee Gee's, "Stayin' Alive' tempo in my mind. I'm afraid I lost all concentration such that I had to restart the interview - hilarious!

This man was universally regarded as the cleverest man in England when he practiced at the Bar. And it shows in this brilliant interview. He ought to have mentioned the appalling effect on the criminal and civil justice system that are now an embarrassment and a disgrace.
