I totally relate. I grew up pretty dysfunctionally also. It was a rough start for all of us, I’m sure. My parents didn’t have a lot and they were probably trying to do the best with what they had at the time, I’m sure but it didn’t make it any easier. I have always had to pretty much do everything on my own and with maybe some minimal help. I didn’t realize it at the time because I thought it was pretty normal but when I moved away on my own and living my own life, my life is so much more different now than it was back then but I don’t think it was me that was the problem, I think it was everything and everybody that was around me that had different ideas than I did about life whereas now I am on my own and sometimes I make bad decisions but somehow I’m able to work through it but it’s not easy getting through it sometimes. All’s I know is I want to make my life as enjoyable as I can for myself whether anybody is there or not. I used to rely on others, whereas I still do somewhat but I try to make the most on my own and that is such more desirable than HAVING to always rely on someone else. I feel so much more freedom now than I did before because now I know there isn’t always going to be someone there when I need them. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I still miss some of the past because it wasn’t all bad. Believe it or not sometimes I miss some of the quirkiness from the past because now at times things can tend to get a little dull. That is true, going through some of the pains from the past helps to realize what is good now. If you never went through some pain you wouldn’t appreciate what is good and take for granted what is good because you never had to deal with the bad because good things don’t always happen all of the time. Sometimes you have to be grateful that you were given the good because some people and situations won’t allow for the good to things to happen. I know that there are times where I feel like why me? Why do I have to deal with this and sometimes I feel like I’m the only one that has to go through this because I know everybody knows that I can handle it. I know GOD doesn’t give you anything that HE doesn’t think you can handle but sometimes I don’t want to handle it and yes, sometimes I wonder why me?
