My interpretation for Kuroko wanting to play in the match before the finals is because he just wanted to do something, specially since it's the match that qualify them for the finals. He didn't want to go directly to the finals againdt his friend by doing nothing.
I think Akashi can be easily likeable because he knows how you are supposed to act. He was taught how to win and be succesful. So he knows that when a teammate is injured he is supposed to go to the infirmary. The personality we saw at the start of this flashback would go to the infirmary because Kuroko is a friend and a valued teammate. With this personality it feels more like he does it because thats what a leader is supposed to do. Another example of this would be that Akashi still goes to practice. The Akashi at the start would go to practice not just because it's the right thing but because he loves Basketball. The Emperor personality however has no enjoyment in Basketball, he just attends practice because it ensures victory and is what the leader is supposed to do.
The emperor personality also has the zone, so clearly he loves basketball too. In the manga it is stated that Akashi's personality is not that different outside of games, most classmates didn't even notice, which means normally he's still well mannered and polite, perhaps just lacking some warmth. It's also clear that he practices because he's putting in the work to win. It's very interesting you bring up that he knows how best to act. I certainly don't think the emperor cared at all for Ogiwara's team, but he wished him good luck anyway based on his well bred manners. He drops those manners when he's threatened by competition.
The anime really toned down Kise behaviour in these flashback. The idea of the 111:11 was Kise's, Akashi simply went along with it. Also after the game Kise as in the anime said that they should have told them Kuroko's friend was their opponent, but immediately after he brushed it off saying that considering the difference in their skills it would have made no difference. The anime if I recall didn't even shown Kise skipping practice to work as a model in their third year in Teiko, only Midorima and Akashi kept practicing regularly. Btw in the manga when they play to see who can score more points, Aomine mocks Kise and Murasakibara saying that he and Akashi are leaving them behind.
I think it's fine for you to like Akashi for several reasons. First, and foremost, you have your own tastes, and as you already know taste is subjective. Second, Akashi, and the rest of the GoM are really only villains when it comes to competition, and by extension, basketball.
I think this episode really speaks for itself. I always feel so bad for Ogiwara, especially in this episode. Kuroko and Kagami, and Seirin will now take on Akashi and the uncrowned Kings!

I see. Thanks for clarifying

I love this little backstory arc and its one of my favorite parts of season 3. Glad youre enjoying it so far!
The thing is Akashi is born in a high-end family, and that's why he has that leadership quality.
Usually, animation improves each season, specially for big anime titles. Problem with Haikyuu was the pandemic
I think I've saw some comments said that Akashi at first was suppossed to be Kuroko's brother that's why you can see a few similarities between them.

You assumed too soon that Akashi will honour Kuroko's wishes to take the game seriously 🙂

Yea, I would have loved to dive deeper into Ogiwara's character
i forgot but there was a bonus scene at the end of the episode
Shoot! Did I miss it?
@@ElevateYourPowerLevel9000 yes you did but it was just Kuroko and Kagami talking before the game started
You miss the end credits scene you know.
It was about akashi and kuroko talking....
Akashi was asking him if you get your answer or not..?
Aomine changing so much is so crazy to me
Coach about the title...
Watch 10 sec from this moment 21:24

Unless I’m mistaking this with another episode, I think there’s a post-credit scene that you missed.
