- Hey There! I'm Will Edmond (Plant Daddy) and this is my partner @AustynRich . In 2017, I started on my UA-cam journey with a dream of connecting with an amazing community and sharing my passion with the world. Little did I know about the rollercoaster ride that awaited me. And I almost quit social media recently!
Fast forward to the pandemic, where life took an unexpected turn. I stumbled upon TikTok and, to my amazement, went viral! I have one of the highest-viewed videos on the internet at 34+ million views on Buzzfeed Tasty.
Suddenly, I found myself creating content full-time on TikTok and Instagram. It was exhilarating, and it paid the bills, but it also shifted my focus away from my initial dream of growing on UA-cam.
Don't get me wrong; TikTok and Instagram have their merits, but the world of short-form content comes with its unique challenges. I found myself running on a treadmill, always feeding the content beast that never seemed to be satisfied. Burnout hit me like a ton of bricks, and I realized I needed to reevaluate my creative journey.
In this video, I'll share the highs, the lows, and the pivotal moments that made me question my path as a content creator. I'll be open and honest about the struggles, doubts, and near-quitting experiences. But, I'll also talk about the resilience, the passion, and the incredible community that kept me going.

I want you to know that your travel content was one of the main things that kept me going last year after my unalive attempt. In the span of a few months I got fired and my husband walked out on me last spring and I tried to unalive myself on my birthday (8 days after my ex walked out and never came home). When I got out of the hospital I was alone and 3000 miles away from any friends or family and it was still during Covid so i couldn’t go out and really do anything and i was so depressed and had no money. So I stayed in bed and watched UA-cam for a few months and your videos traveling were something that really inspired me to try to stay alive and find a new job and survive my divorce and my depression so I could travel one day just like you. So far I have been on two trips to the Bahamas and Mexico and hope to go on more soon. I just got a job this week and am already planning my next trip largely thanks to you and your other travel buddy Amtrak friend and your videos for inspiring me. I’m plant based as well so I love seeing what you eat on your trips. Hope to see more travel vlogs from you soon but either way wanted you to know what a difference your content has truly made personally in my life 🥹❤ I thought i had nothing to live for after my divorce / job loss / eviction / a period of homelessness, but now I know i was put on this earth to travel and eat plant based food and that keeps me getting out of bed every morning. I haven’t had the money to travel in over a year now but every day I keep going knowing one day I can go again if I just keep grinding and stay alive long enough to do it. I know probably thousands of other people out there also get joy and inspiration from your content as well. 😊

@@angelasnell6846 thank you, it was so tough at the time, but the trips I took to Mexico and Bahamas last fall (after seeing Plant Daddy’s trip on the California Zephyr that was one of the videos that seriously inspired me to travel) made me really see how big and beautiful the world is and now I want to see it all! I’m hoping to be able to take some trips next year now that I’m working again and getting back on my feet. Travel makes life absolutely worth living, even if you have no one, solo travel is still so amazing.

I just watched your homesteading video. I would love to also see your journey as you complete your homestead. I thought the dome idea was neat and would love to see how you utilize them. Plus, some of the day-to-day on your homesteading.
I tend to gravitate towards things I find interesting such as travel, homesteading, etc…; however, I stay for the content creator and their energy!

Glad you saw me with my friend Mike! I enjoy small towns. The big city has wore me out. I feel like I’m always stressed from sitting in traffic, everything is super expensive, and people can get kinda weird at times. I love medium sized cities and anything close to a body of water.

I LOVE train travel and found you on Downy live. I love your channel. I, personally dont care for the short form. I watch the people I like but I prefer a longer format. As a reasonably new meatless eater I was excited that you said you were gonna do more cooking. If that doesn't happen I'm also ok with that. But I'm gonna tune in for whatever you do.

Yeah it is so expensive to go out and travel. Thank you for making videos, but honestly do what makes you happy. I totally get how exhausting traveling would be - it's a lot. You do what fulfills you! It's a personal connection people crave I think :) I feel like your sweetness and joy resonate and that's what makes me come back ❤
Yes! To expensive and requires a lot of time. I love long form content and going to put out more things that make me happy.
I've been seeing a lot of videos from creators I've been following for a long time talking about these same struggles! The balance of "feeding the beast", staying true to yourself, and making content you're proud of is HARD. Your explanation of that situation is very open and honest, and I appreciate the transparency (the toilet metaphor had me ROLLING 😂 but it's so true!).

Delighted to see a new video from you Will, very interesting to hear honest thoughts on content creation. Austin was absolutely spot on with saying about how people watch and follow creators/channels on UA-cam. There are channels I’ve been subscribed to for years now that may only put out a video once/twice a month but it’s long form and of the highest quality and that’s why I like them. I found your channel through Mike Downie, loved your energy, enthusiasm and how genuine you present yourself. I’ve personally never used instagram or TikTok (and never will) and barely use Facebook and don’t really have much interest in ‘social media’ apart from UA-cam. I been extremely fortunate enough to have traveled the world during my previous career and now love exploring what’s on my doorstep, it doesn’t cost me the earth to travel and I’m finding so many new places that interest me. I do believe doing what makes you happy really does come across to the viewer. I look forward to seeing where you take your passion and this channel. Best wishes to the both of you from England

I've been following you for years. I love your energy. I only watched your travel videos, but I will start to watch your cooking videos, because I am trying to eat more plant base. Anyway, I know the feeling, I got burned out from youtube, the trolls, the other content creators stealing my content, the constant work that I put into my video to get five views. It was exhausting to say the least. Now, i am back on UA-cam, but I am going to do things my way. I am not thristing for clicks or drama, but a real audience that's loyal.. I'm not a big fan of short term content. It's just meant to be a distraction, where long form content is all about story telling. I wish you all the best in your endeavors, and I'll keep watching.

@@Whyisshamira_yourgirl8 I really enjoyed traveling but honestly it’s to expensive and you are always on the go. And the older I get walking through TSA and catching a flight is becoming stressful. I’d rather drive or get on a boat. 😭 And things are super expensive! I’d do some local travel but I won’t hop on a plane just to show off a place in hopes I’ll make income off of it. I want to share the simpler part of life now.

I just stumbled on your videos and already watched 6 videos. I love the direction that you guys are taking. I like genuine videos, especially living homestead because inflation is getting ridiculous. I’m thinking going homesteading and seeing more people actually doing it. Is humbling, I now live in Atlanta and I’m thinking of moving to Arizona in a couple of years. Selling my house and living a more stress free life. We living in a survival mode no matter how much money a person has but we shouldn’t have to spend it on just living our daily lives. I wonder if my family have land and no one have claimed it. How can we find out? Well i am a new subscriber and I’m waiting for your future content. Do want you love, be genuine, be yourself and those that enjoy your energy will support you guys.
Everything you said is 100% right. I love the country side of Georgia but Atlanta was getting to be a little to much for me. You should live a more stressed free life I’m here for it! If you have relatives that are older begin asking them if they own any land. A lot of older folks have land that they haven’t told anyone about. It’s wild! Thank you for your support.

You produce quality videos, even if they're underrated. That's something to be proud of. I was disappointed that you left UA-cam for awhile. You were one of my favorite creators. We believe that the Earth is a planet of beautiful people that's diverse and everyone has their own ideas/opinions. Your adventures on Downie Live was my first exposure to you, and every time I saw Mike travelling alone, I thought to myself, if he had Wil Edmond with him, this would have been so much more fun.
