I think it’s ideal to have continuity, in addition to that I like how he seemingly has been promoted wherever he goes and players love him. I also think the increase in takeaways could be a result of his meetings.
Overall Kyle needs to ensure there’s a greater level of success than Wilks experienced or this could prove detrimental long term. Based on their track record so far I’ll give Kyle and Lynch benefit of the doubt. I expect big things out of someone who’s been part of this 4-3 scheme since it’s emergence.
Also Staley I think offers pretty good value as assistant head coach considering how positively he was viewed prior to his chargers stint. There’s tons of DCs that don’t make good head coaches, for instance Fangio.

I wanted Chris Kiffin, but I'm on board with the Sorenson hire.
The other thing about Sorenson is that he was the QB at Virginia Tech right before Michael Vick took over there like you mentioned. Yeah he switched to DB at that point, but he still has the QB mindset that he uses to counter opposing QB play and that's what makes it so intriguing. I'm optimistic.

    • @Wizez
      @Wizez  3 місяці тому +6

I did highlight his time as qb before switching to Db. I think Sorensen has a complete view of football considering he’s spent time on offense, special teams and defense. This is actually extremely beneficial as you alluded to especially when coaching!

I’ve been an advocate of a dual replacement since the end of the regular season. I was thinking Bellichek and an in house protege on a 2 year track. I was wrong, big surprise. I would argue though Staley might well augment Sorenson’s development, without exposing his demonstrated lack of all round leadership. This move might actually expand both coaches’ capabilities.

  • @yong_daddy7273

Just hope Sorensen is a defensive genius. Lynch actually got no saying in anything because Shanahan run the whole show. Might as well let Shanahan be the GM/DC/STC etc and let him go run block defense and run routes since he was a former walk on WR at Texas on his dad money

Staley said. "I think it'll be kind of a combination of all my roles in the NFL, but I'm going to be working primarily on defense... "And that encompasses a lot of different things, but if he needs something, then we've been able to connect and collaborate on that, and that's a big part of the role that I was excited about.".... The protracted time between Staley's initial interview and being hired, he said, had to do with what his role actually would be - perhaps because SF was attempting to steal the KC defensive coordinator. They failed to buy Shanahan's nemesis, so they hired another brilliant tactition to counter KC. They had Shanahan's number so he is adding a Staley wrinkle. Yes he will help the defense, but I am still convinced he will be the secret weapon on offense

If it's a Kyle decision then it's time to bring in the YES Men. A majority of the fan base is onboard with that style of leadership. When Greenlaw went down we lost our attitude, when Kyle fired Wilks we lost our direction. There was a lot of experimenting after the 1995 season with personnel and it created a stay relevant culture but it didn't achieve. It feels like we're going to embark into a chapter of "keeping relevant". It's cool 😎 10-11 win seasons are hard to come by but I can't see it going past that being the accomplishment. We'll have to wait and see, the window will remain closed if we hire and fire all within a 17 game stretch because of Kyles ego. It's never a bad thing to have multiple leaders in one locker room, just do your job and allow the next guy to do the same. BangBang 👉🤛 Run Em

As a fan, kyle is the problem
I look at it like this .
lets say If Kyle would have taken a young team like the Chiefs to the playoffs and eventually the superbowl. I would stoked as a fan.
Chiefs started off the season miserably.
Wr's dropping passes left and right but found a way to sneak into the playoffs. Thats coaching.
With a team this stacked as the 49ers it kind of evident 49ers will be in the playoff hunt. That's even with the top13 coaches in the league coaching us.
Barely winning in OT doesnt take away from the fact.
Offense scored zero points in the 3rd quarter
    Was 3-12 for 3rd downs
Deebo Samuel had three catches for 33 yards, Kittle caught just two passes for 4 yards.
We shouldn't even be in OT.
Beginning of 3rd quarter mahomes throws a int
49ers gets the ball back and kyle dials up 2 weak pass attempts and a qb scamble on 3rd down to force a punt at 4&11.
49ers gets the ball back after a 3 and out from the defense and kyle does another 3 straight pass plays. No runs in the pass 2 possessions and that leads to another punt.
49ers defense holds mahomes again for the 3rd consecutive time to force a 53yard field goal bye butker.
49ers then get the ball and what does our offensive genius dial up.
A run up the middle for zero gain and two weak incompete pass plays to force another punt.
Then the defense holds mahomes again, to force a punt..luter messes it up chiefs recover and scored there. Games momentum goes down hill
Look how many opportunities we had.
should have won the damb game but shanny can't call it with the big Dawgs. How much more evidence do we need. Your telling me 1 mvp mahomes can out play a 9x prowbowl team where
Samuel had three catches for 33 yards, while Kittle caught just two passes for 4 yards.
That game should have been taken and won.
Specially with a 1000 yard player in every position.
But kyle chokes and gets conservative and that's what I complain about coaching.
Alot of coaches can have success with this roster, alot
Were actually lucky to even be in the superbowl. Riverboat Dan almost had kyle

EPA against run in 2023: #25
      In 2022:#2.
The front and back half never meshed which is why Kyle moved off Wilks. It wasn’t superbowl that lost Wilks his job rather a season of not being able to consistently stop the run despite having one of the more talented teams in the league.

@@Wizez …that’s what happens when all your money and talent is tied up on the front seven…the reason they never meshed is a front office fault…there is no true talent on their back end ..at all…they don’t care about turn overs they care about pressure…talent is ur secondary is what makes mesh and turnovers happen….49er never get coverage sacks..before wilks and after wilks..and that’s a big determining factor in how well ur defense is meshing

I’m just saying that’s a big part why they decided to move off there was a drastic drop off in run efficiency. There’s others metrics to show the same thing or you can just watch both year’s film.
I think it was a lot to ask Wilks to learn a new system, style and philosophy then implement that knowledge in one offseason. He still remained a solid DB coach which is why there was improvement from Ambry , but there wasn’t a cohesive link between these units.
We will see if Sorensen is a better fit but based off there moves San Francisco seems to understand their misguided approach to the defensive coordinator position last year . But if this defense doesn’t improve, specifically against run. I think there’s a lot of questions to be answered .
Also having more invested in your front 7 usually leads to stronger run support, which is why niners historically with Kyle have been top EPA In league against run

Now they need to fire the choke artist so call offense genius. The offensive genius lost the game. 3 for 12 on 3rd downs. Not to mention the coin toss bluper

Seriously, if they offered Belichick the HC position and he signed, he wins another 6 rings with the weapons he has. I am extremely confident this would happen.

The guy you want to fire has been to 4 NFC Championship games and 2 Super Bowls in 5 years. He lost to Mahomes in OT after Greenlaw got hurt early. He’s 8-4 in the playoffs. His “coin toss bluper” was the right call. His defense was gassed after being on the field at the end of regulation. 2 guys in the secondary had to come out of the game at the end of regulation with minor injuries. You want to send the defense back on the field right away, at the start of OT? Kyle also wanted to get the 3rd possession in OT if the teams matched scores in the first 2. Teams are poaching coaches from the 9ers cuz they want to copy him. The Kyle hate is sooo dumb.

I love dre Greenlawn but the team needs to trade him away now while he still has playable years left. He is always hurt and it's always at the worst time...he needs to get shipped off. Sorenson needs to make a few of his own moves here and hit the ground running and trading Greenlawn could be how it starts
