This was life changing for me. I was enraged at first. Then I realized I was angry soley because how foolish I was and how easily I fell for it. I had no issue dismissing all the red flags because I wanted it to be true. This film was one of the first to help me realize that I wasn't as smart as I thought I was and how able and willing I was to buy a lie.
I am watching this for the third time and finding it just as wonderful as the first viewing. the actors were wonderful and the film itself beautifully done, seeing Damien Hurst's name one should always expect the unexpected. superb, funny and my admiration for the work and imagination that went into getting this to the screen. Thankyou .
Well done! I just watched this for the third time and only now read the comments to see, if this was factual. The making of this film must have cost a fortune. To deposit this art on the seabed, just to bring it back up again to be filmed. Mindboggling. Even when watching this the first time, I thought the art itself looked very modern in some cases. The faces especially. I've never seen an egyptian statue with closed eyes, for example. And there were two! And I wondered how those huge statues could survive standing upright on the seabed?! I guess my common sense and general knowledge knew from the beginning, that this isn't true. Shows how much I wanted it to be true and how much the narrative influenced my judgment. Do I still want to get the catalogue? Hell yeah!
I've been had but it was with pleasure :) As a former diver I can only imagine what it would feel to discover such treasures, I can only imagine. Thanks
Like a good book of fiction, it entertains and fires the imagination for a few hours. The Medusa head and the sun disc made me want to own these masterpieces. Well done Mr Hurst, the best art provokes and inspires.
The most amazing art treasure iv ever seen and probably ever will see. The video was put together so well how it builds the curiosity and explodes into the greatest treasure ever found. Thank you so very much for sharing your work.
Thank you very much ! This is art ! Storytelling! Videography top tier ! I’m a underwater explorer and a filmmaker, but This is completely different level ! You made me love your movie!! The amount of your soul you guys put in it … thank you again !
This is the greatest art instalation+exhibition ever... Seriously the scope... the adventure... The history made up or not... Absolutely brilliant... The documentary is the exhibition!
My wife and I watched last night. Completely thought it was real until I saw something very unusual at the end; Walt Disney holding Micky's hand! I was like, "They didn't ware suits then, and that's fricken mickey mouse!" WELL DONE! Very impressed! Loved it!
Good addition to UA-cam, because there are so many docs here, but this one gets you thinking about docs in general. Yeah, I have to admit the mouse object was where I really connected the dots. I'd be curious to know where an expert would start? Right away? Styles were the first thing I noticed, then scales and detailing under the coral.
The artist did such a good job my favs are the ones with the beautiful coral work on them. Glad I read the comments so I could enjoy the artistry and the different mediums he used some almost look alive.
Hook, line and sinker. I enjoyed every minute of this perfectly cultivated journey to the hearts of all of us childhood treasure hunter dreamers out there. Not gonna lie, I was ready to buy a plane ticket until I died of hysterical laughter with the glimpse of Mickeys ears. I really enjoyed the ride. Thank you Damien!
Having a background in the field i have to give the entire cast and crew some major cudos! I just hope that there's nobody getting their gear together to find anything left behind 😂👍.
Damien Hirst is a British artist known for his controversial and provocative works, often exploring themes of life, death, and the fragility of existence. Born in Bristol, England, in 1965, Hirst rose to prominence in the art world during the 1990s as part of the Young British Artists (YBAs) movement. Hirst gained significant attention for his installation art, sculptures, and conceptual pieces. One of his most well-known works is "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living," which features a preserved shark suspended in formaldehyde. This piece, along with others in his "Natural History" series, challenged traditional notions of art and provoked discussions about mortality and the human condition.
I gotta admit I bought this hook, line and sinker right up until the end. There were plenty of warnings which I ignored. Being a diver I was curious how they preserved so much of the colors of the coral, urchins and worm casings. When they were carrying the large gold works of art I thought wow they must be really strong to carry that much gold so easily, but still ignored my sense of reality. The statue of the bear with the screaming man with outstretched arms standing on its head was insane and seemed too modern to me. The monkey with the corn cob was odd as was the gold transformer statue. When I glimpsed the "Made in China" stamp my mind was screaming WTF?? The statue of Mickey still in the water at the end looked so out of place I thought I was just interpreting an old work of art through simple eyes. It wasn't until I went to the comments did I realize it was really just another Hollywood movie making it truly Treasures of the Unbelievable.
This is a demonstration of how a fictitious history is created and reinforced with layer upon layer. Who or what would want to go to this much trouble to hide the truth?
When I discovered all this was fake, i was quite angry. These works in gold, marble and bronze works with coral are wonderful in there own right. The false narrative cheapens the effort .
What is with the comments about this being fake then? Is this not a true documentary? Also the statue of the man holding corn is confusing me. Corn was not introduced to Europe until the 1400s
I just found out this was fake the other day, I watched it when it first came out and had always believed it to be real as it was released as a documentary. I have seen many other very famous mockumentaries but I was always aware going in that that's what they were, Dragons, Mermaids, Megalodon, etc. I have to say finding out this was fake has left rather a bad taste in my mouth, upon rewatching it with that in mind I have noticed several telltale giveaways which I never noticed before, how effortlessly they carry the "gold" items (I have held an actual gold bar recovered from a Spanish treasure galleon, gold is insanely heavy!), the fact that somehow all of the delicate coral remained intact during lifting and that the coral never lost it's color, and at the end I don't know how I missed the statue of Mickey Mouse. I have no problem with mockumentaries, in fact I enjoy them, my problem here is the feeling that I was lied to, the feeling that I was being purposely mislead by this artist. In an age where misinformation runs rampant I believe that people who make these kinds of mockumentaries need to be very clear and very upfront that that's what they are. I was a kid when Dragons: A Fantasy Made Real came out and I remember people losing their minds over it thinking we had found actual proof of dragons but even as a kid I knew (probably due to trailers and ads prior to release) that it was a what if scenario and not actually real. People who just saw the film with no context believed it was real but there was context available and for me at least it was made very clear that it was fake. My problem with this mockumentary is that there was no context at the time of release and it was released as a documentary. I've only discovered the truth now as I randomly searched for the documentary on Google as I couldn't recall the title and then saw all these articles about how it was a hoax. I think there needs to be greater accountability and responsibility of tv channels and streaming services to verify and make clear whether something is real or not.
I've seen it in Venice, it took years to convince my brain/soul that it was all artificial. The fact that it was all constructed by a modern man just wasn't somehow getting through 😅 Venice has never been the same after this exhibition, I still expect to see the treasures there.
In a fantastic coincidence. Damien Hirst found his treasure here reflecting exactly his own concerns and obsessions... There is no such thing as coincidence.
My good friend has the gallery book from this show. It's truly amazing work. The detailed craftsmanship in all the coral and worm-damage is really beautifully done. Sorry they didn't note that this is all "fake" in the channel notes. This is the video that would play in the gallery where the show was being held and it is a work of fiction and artistry as much as anything else in the show. I can understand how some people would feel cheated or misled if they don't know the context of the video. To be fair, my friend did show me the gallery book as a bit of a joke to see how long it would take before I figured out that it was an exhibit of modern art.
i'm so glad you have re-uploaded this, i watched it the first time it was out and was taken in untill the mickey mouse statue. i just wonder how many of the people involved were in "the know" After rewatching this i still think those statues looked their best in the watery setting .
Amazing lost Arts , Old God's old beliefs of tales monsters and combat ... of the beauty ... The quality of sculpture with eyes added , what beautiful haunting work. Even in our Digital Age , I do not think men can create the work of these lost Artisans. Truly amazing astonishing , in the scale. Good they went into the deeper place , and searched. Amazing , simply amazing. That year I had just had my Cancer surgery revisions ...and I was on Chemo still .... Life is amazing.
Amazing fictional docu-drama, showcasing absolutely next-level castings and sculptural artwork!
P.T. Barnum is alive and well. Good on the producers for their commitment to the fun in being willfully fooled.
Best ever documentary.Keeps dreams alive !! Amazing !
You've got to give it to the actors, they did an amazing job. And the pieces really are beautiful.
I am watching this for the third time and finding it just as wonderful as the first viewing. the actors were wonderful and the film itself beautifully done, seeing Damien Hurst's name one should always expect the unexpected. superb, funny and my admiration for the work and imagination that went into getting this to the screen. Check out some of our other films on the channel.

That Medusa head. To die for
That was amazing! Beautifully filmed, perfectly told story! I loved it. I've been turning my friends onto it.
I've been had but it was with pleasure :) As a former diver I can only imagine what it would feel to discover such treasures, I can only imagine. Thanks
This one literally gave me cold chills, Just watching the whole process and what came up.
oh wow.the whole filming was just breath taking, Respect to all involved. and tons of appreciation.
Absolutely Brilliant, brilliant piece of introspective mind art. The pieces are mesmerizing. Bravo.
Like a good book of fiction, it entertains and fires the imagination for a few hours. The Medusa head and the sun disc made me want to own these masterpieces.
Well done Mr Hurst, the best art provokes and inspires.
holding up gold statues like they're made of air is sort of a give away
Damien Hirst and SCIENCE Ltd says it all. God help us when he gets to HISTORY
Superb. Truly art. We want to believe. Those of us who love archaeology are chomping at the bits when we see this. Fabulous 🙏👍🤛
Thank you so much 😀
Ça faisait longtemps que je n’avais pas été cueilli par tant de beautés et de finesses montrés dans un doc découvertes !
Watched twice. Loved the whole thing and enjoying the comments that offer so many different perspectives. Wished i could have some in my collection
this guy just showed us how easy we can get tricked, wow!
Saw the exhibition in Venice. Beyond words. So amazingly created.
The most amazing art treasure iv ever seen and probably ever will see. The video was put together so well how it builds the curiosity and explodes into the greatest treasure ever found. Thank you so very much for sharing your work.
One of the best mockumentary stories ever. So much fantastic detail and all for fun. They did a great job telling this fairytale. 😊
Thank you very much ! This is art ! Storytelling! Videography top tier ! I’m a underwater explorer and a filmmaker, but This is completely different level ! You made me love your movie!! The amount of your soul you guys put in it … thank you again !
Cannot believe this was all fiction, who goes to the effort to do this.
This is what I imagine artifacts from Atlantis would have looked liked being found
Now THIS is art! I love it!
The Best Thing I've Seen On The Internet or TV in Like Two Years~!!!
Loved it!
Great story! I love a good piece of fiction based on myth and to top it off the sculptures are magnificent!
Astounding! Keep it up guys!
Wow….. Amazing twist….. still would love to experience these works of wonder! 💚💚💚
Whah?!? Im lost. This show is awesome. If its all fake, im much happier believing it was real. It it all real in my imagination.
I want... must see this in person .. simply amazing!
Brilliat Work, I loved every minute of it. Thank you & well done.
The artist did such a good job my favs are the ones with the beautiful coral work on them. Glad I read the comments so I could enjoy the artistry and the different mediums he used some almost look alive.
*this was absolutely amazing videos to watch*
Fantastic! Absolutely Fantastic! I would love to see it in person!
😮 This is a phenomenal find for sure!!! Congratulations!!! I too was always fascinated by the ancient myths. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Brilliant video lovely art of statues
This was fun to watch and the art is stunning.
SUPERB! Loved it
Hook, line and sinker.
Around 10 minutes in I started to get suspicious of their lack of real excitement after a discovery.
Having a background in the field i have to give the entire cast and crew some major cudos! I just hope that there's nobody getting their gear together to find anything left behind 😂👍.
Sad thing that they presented this as a real expedition.
I would have thought this was real when it was on Netflix but Mickey Mouse gave it away at the end
THE LENGTHS THEY HAVE GONE TO CREATE MAKE BELIEVE HISTORY 💎

This is absolutely epicly done and jawdroppingingly amazing I’ve had to watch it 3 times so far
Monkey eating corn on the cob should be a big giveaway. Lol.
This is the most breathtakingly beautiful collection I've ever seen!
I gotta admit I bought this hook, line and sinker right up until the end. There were plenty of warnings which I ignored. the actors kind of gave it away from the start…
i was going to say
The most Damien Hirst thing ever.
Amazing! I totally enjoyed this video!
When they lifted the sun disk I was in absolute awe
When I discovered all this was fake, i was quite angry. These works in gold, marble and bronze works with coral are wonderful in there own right. The false narrative cheapens the effort .
Incredible!!! Great documentary!
Wow! What a show! Thank you for bringing all that to the open again.
I knew it wasn’t real gold watching the size of the men lifting the smaller pieces. That cat should have taken two pretty big men to carry it.
OMG...this isn't...factual ? I was TOTALLY absorbed...thinking it was real... You guys are SO good at this ! I was sold!!!
A seriously beautiful and well put together piece. Thank you for sharing the artworks, absolutely breathtaking. Fascinating 👌💜
I was one of the original consultants from 2010 that helped assist in this expedition. It was truly one of the highlights of my career.
What is with the comments about this being fake then?
