This looks like one of the best piers in the world. It is amazing how they fit a solid collection in an insanely small amount of space. Hydrus looks like a top 7 coaster in NJ and a SBF Visa Big Air which is always good, and one some of the best indoor theming on a coaster with Pirates Hideaway, totally.
Hydrus is a death trap and the whole ride sways back and forth and leves u with a nasty headache not to mention it cost close to 12 -15 dollars for one ride.
I’ve watched so many of your videos about roller coasters from all over the world. It’s so remarkable for me to see your review of my very local park. I’ve been there 1 million times and most the time just to walk around. It’s funny what your observations are of it.
@@CanobieCoaster such as how it’s busy and happening at night. People come off the beach, so they do the rides. It’s true, even though I never thought of it. Other amusement parks aren’t necessarily like that. People go home at the end of the day.
Regarding Funtown Pier, the biggest thing I miss (by far) is the old two-drop Log Flume ... but to be fair, that was dismantled long before Sandy hit. There wasn't any theming, but its path and drops were very much reminiscent of the flume ride at Morey's Pier. Plus, you could pay to ride back-to-back (for less than the cost of two separate rides), so four top-notch drops.
I've been going to Seaside Heights (and CP) my entire life, from childhood to the present-day when I bring my own family. We tend to go 2-3 times a year, and always enjoy the trip (even if we pay more than we'd like ... but where *won't* you do that, amiright?) I want to give a shout-out to Maruca's, which makes fantastic pizza! It was even spotlighted in an episode of "Man Vs Food" (though it now shares accommodations with JRs since their original location burned down with Funtown Pier). A must buy every time we visit! Fun aside: the guy who runs the classic arcade at Wildwood once set up shop at Seaside Heights. I miss those days, if only because Seaside is so much closer to me than Wildwood.
I think it was a good trade off on the carousel being moved. It's now out of harms way as it's vulnerable because of its age. They can easily purchase a Chance Carousel. During Hurricane IKE we lost the Balinese Room (ball room/ night club) Look that up. Frank Sinatra & the likes performed there & Howard Hughes were among its guests. We DID get Galveston Historic Pleasure Pier. The 3rd time the pier has been rebuilt after a hurricane. I;m sure in time dark ride, flume & carousel will help round out a STRONG significant attraction. Lovely review!
Side note: Superstorm Sandy alone didn't finish off Funtown Pier ... but the fire that erupted a year later did. Doubtful that pier *ever* returns, which I find very sad. But at least CP is doing well again.
I love the reviews, keep em coming! I think Michigan's Adventure would benefit with a Hamster Wheel/spinning combo coaster as it would appease teens/young adults, as well as families with children at the same time. A Guerslauer infinity like Hydrus would also be great there too, especially with county height restrictions, but we know that the only thing that will be added to Michigan's Adventure will be a new umbrella for the Dipping Dots stand 🤣
@@CanobieCoaster Yes I went all the time when it was called water works in the mid 90s and early 2000s. I got a free t-shirt in 1998 and 2001 and probably went a bunch of times between 95 or 96 until 2002 or 2003 when it was called Water Works. Back then it cost $12 per person and I usually went with my father and brother and we had a coupon book from Seaside Heights where it was $1 off so we paid $35 for 3 hours. We also parked a few blocks away so it was free parking. We'd go 9am to Noon. Then go home for lunch and enjoy the beach at Ocean Beach in Lavallette for the afternoon. Also back then most amusement park rides were about 5-6 tickets but the tickets were like 75 cents each so a ride typically cost $4-5. These days some of the rides are $10 which is insane. I can't believe the increase in cost for rides and life. Good thing I don't have kids. I can't afford this stuff.
sandy itself didn't shut down funtown. both piers were destroyed but rebuilt by the following summer, but the tragedy of funtown came down to the fact that in that next fall, a small fire that started in an ice cream parlor adjacent to funtown quickly spread and brought down the whole thing, it even took out sawmill. but slowly over the past decade that section of the boardwalk minus funtown has been rebuilt, and better than before. BUT, funtown is now currently being rebuilt in phases.
I'd give a quick shout-out to CP's Musik Express, which runs a decent length and runs both forwards and backwards. I've never been to Waldameer, so I don't know which M.Expr. runs longer.
I'm not gonna lie the Sunday after you posted this video I myself went to seaside and stopped by casino pier. I only did the coaster and ferris wheel but the coaster in my opinion is well worth the ten dollar price.
Seaside absolutely sucks now. Growing up we had two piers, amazing dark rides, the Jet Star, Log Flume, sky ride along the 1000 ft long Casino Pier. Now there’s a tiny pier, and it’s nothing like it used to be! I’d give it a 1 out of 10
I love this place I take the jersey transit at 34st pen to Bay Head then an uber. The beach ⛱️ is awesome beautiful. P.S. my 9yr old son can't stop talking about this place. 😁
It's too bad the Funtown Pier was never salvageable. I am guessing it was beyond repair like this place was. So where did the name Casino Pier come from? Is there a casino nearby that owns this place?
It Would Have Been Cool To Have A Wrist band Like Luna Park Did But It But Either Way It’s Not A Reason To Say This Place Sucks It’s Still A Great Park To Go To Especially The Atmosphere

@@CanobieCoaster It was better then but still missing some rides. I think the peak of the boardwalk was the late 80s until 2005 or so. They had so many awesome rides back in the day. The Funtown Pier had the looping roller coaster which was still there up until Sandy. They also had the Log Flume which was an amazing ride. The Log Flume had a good deal too. It was $3 for 1 ride, and $1 extra to ride it a 2nd time so $4 for 2 rides. I also remember the amazing rides on Casino Pier- the Jet Star, Zipper, Kamikazee (swinging ax ride), Force 10 (spinning ride), solid Himalaya, the Pirate Ship, sling shot, etc. Man being a kid in the 90s ruled. It was so much better than now.
It is so nice to know that this park is coming back after sandy. 😊
It really is!
These videos are coming at a good time for me, helping me with planning. In late July, I'll be going to as many of the New Jersey parks as I can.
That's a fun trip down the coast.

There's one nearby at Craig's Cruisers, but it could work there too.
Do you remember if you can use chest mounted GoPros at the park?
I didn't ask for my visit, so I don't know.
When it was Water Parks it used to be $12 for 3 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fact the price has tripled or quadrupled is insane.
That would've been a great deal.
