My husband was the same way but he had a stroke December 1st and now he doesn't have use of his right arm and is learning how to speak again. I to love in an older home, but I had no pantry and small kitchen. Hubby put a small pantry in the wall between the studs. It was wasted wall space next to my side door so it was the perfect spot. When it came to the small closets we did wire rack shelves and one with a hanging bar so we have like three shelves below the hanging clothes and one above. Good luck you have some great ideas.

Good luck with all your renovation plans. We have owned our home for 25 years and last summer we finally finished the major renovations we had planned when we first moved in! We have done nearly all the work ourselves and paid for it all in cash so we had to take our time doing the renovations. Fortunately, we work well together, LOL.
We moved into our home 2 years ago. It is over 120 years old and the last 10 or so years that the previous owner had it, they didn't seem to do much maintenance. So, needless to say, we are now doing a lot of the deferred maintenance! lol We love our home, though, and are happy to be making it our own. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your progress.

It’s wonderful that you and the LE are on the same page and that you can do so much of the work yourselves (especially the electric...that work is expensive!). Although it might take a little longer because of work/school/family, you’re saving oodles of money doing the work on your own. Good thing you are removing the trees soon. We live in an area of Pine trees, many were burned in a huge fire a few years ago. You never know when the roots will let go.
I want to give you a idea I came up with in our 1st home. We didn't have a pantry but we had a blank wall in our kitchen somewhat like yours. We were able to cut into our wall 5 inches, we had a friend who built us the frame for the pantry. We purchased a 48" wide bifold door (don't remember the height) something like 68" or 72". They didn't go all the way to the ceiling so I could put decor up there if I chose. We painted the frame to match the colors in the room. BTW we spaced the shelf difference by the size cans I used. I left the bottom shelf wider fo 5 lb. Flour, suga etc. The top shelf in the pantry tall enough for cereal boxes or containers. We are from Georgia also. Enjoy your redo's and updates.

Oh girl! I am so glad I’m not the only one in the “my house is never going to be finished” dilemma!!! Thank you for sharing ever with us!!! 🥰 also do NOT apologize for cutting your trees! You can always replant in a safer spot!!! I had 2 gigantic Maple Trees our front almost to my curb and a huge limb fell out during a storm and came inches from hitting someone who was driving. It was infested with bugs as well. While I was so sad to see those gorgeous things go it was the best decision and we plan or planting something else in our backyard this spring.

Karen Brooks not at all! While we have had to deal with more issues than expected, I still haven’t had any second thoughts about it. It’s a better fit for our family as far as layout, size and location. Lots of work for sure, but the benefits definitely outweigh the journey to getting it how we want 😊
A dead pine tree is a serious fire hazard and the tree is contaminated with the beatle. You need to take it down and get rid of the tree. Do not keep the wood!!
