I like how they are calling this “The last Halloween movie” but we all know that it will only be a couple years until they reboot it. The "Evil dies tonight." got so old, very quickly. I also thought it was so weird how Laurie spent every waking moment preparing for him to return while he was literally locked up for 40 years, but now that he’s on the loose and went on his most violent massive killing spree she’s just chillin. I was like uh what.😆

Yeah I agree. And while there’s something to be said about letting a franchise rest. I would love to see an actual good reboot of the series one day. Despite its bad track record it does have the makings of a great movie. It’s just bad horrible direction. Look no further than the Novelization of these current Halloween movies. They expands upon and make those movies better. Why they didn’t adapt them? Who knows. Maybe they’re allergic to making a good movie.

My BIGGEST problem with the movie is that the trailers lied to us. They implied that Michael and Lowry would be the center of this movie, culminating in a final showdown but what we GOT was a weird RomCom movie where this sad kid goes on a killing spree, beats Michael myers up with little effort, and then Michael and Lowry have a glorified cameo with a showdown at the end.

Fun fact: in the novelization of the film, they mention that Michael escaped into the woods after Kills, and the old homeless man who Corey kills was one of the Smith's Grove patients who was manipulated into worshipping Michael as a God by Sartain, and when he found Michael, he brought him to the sewers and protected him, brought him food, and brought him victims. The novel isn't perfect, it's still largely the same story, but it does fill in some of the gaps and flesh out some of the more confusing parts of the film.
They also mention that Laurie spiraled down into an even worse state after Karen's death, but she eventually got therapy and is writing the memoir at Frank's suggestion. We also get a scene with Julian, the kid Vicky was babysitting in '18. All in all, the book is significantly better than the movie, but still pretty terrible

I hate how Laurie let Michael dictate her life when he was locked in a secure facility for 40 years, but after his most violent killing spree, that took the life of most of her acquaintances (her daughter and son-in-law included mind you), AND HE FUCKING VANISHES AFTER, she get's all "ok, NOW it's the time to start healing". Cory was a terrific idea, terribly executed. He should've been introduced in 2018, perhaps replacing that friend of Cameron that was into Allyson, and the seeds that he was just as Evil as Michael should've been explored in Kills. That way, just as we see Allyson playing a modern take into Laurie's character, Cory could been the same for Michael, during the trilogy.

  • @MorganDanielleBeauty
    @MorganDanielleBeauty Рік тому +776

I think had they introduced Cory earlier in the trilogy, maybe have him play a friend of Laurie’s granddaughter and run away from Michael despite being mesmerized. Then later, have him try to kill Michael and accidentally kill someone else, leading him to be a social pariah. And let that slowly build up to him sympathizing with Michael & that lead to him leading Michael back to Laurie. I think the movie was poorly received solely because Cory was such a focal point randomly-that pretty much doomed the movie & his character. It’s really hard to flesh out a character like that & make them not inconsistent when you have to introduce them to an existing/ongoing plot, wiggle in their motives/conflict and resolve it while also having 2 bigger characters and a much bigger plot between them.

Yup 2018 have him accidentally kill that kid, 2018 shows the town pushing him to what he became in ends having him be "infected" or whatever by Mike in kills. Kills ending with him killing a bum or Karen or whoever in cold blood. Have the town mob and try to kill Mike while he is either there or helps.. Mike loses his mask. Corey takes it, Mike gets away. Setting up ends. He starts as A hero saving Laurie or her granddaughter in 2018, gets infected in kills, Becomes fake Michael in ends for Years or so, Laurie finds out, they still have a confrontation but he still gets killed by Mike.

Actually the whole "they needed a new boogieman" is pretty on spot
It's the concept of an "Escape goat". Basically the idea that any society (in this case, the town) needs a "common enemy", something to receive all of their hate, so as to "relieve" those negative feelings. Without someone or something to take blame for whatever, people will start to instead target any tiny detail from *inside* their society and this will inevitably lead to internal conflicts, which threatens their society's stability.

Really, I feel what people overlook is that the whole of Haddonfield was corrupt. They always needed to have some Boogeyman to blame for their problems whether it be Michael or Corey. Even Laurie is blamed for Michael's actions due to her being the sole survivor of his rampage. To think about it, Haddonfield is almost like some Lovecraftian nightmare where evil festers underneath the surface but eventually, evil leaks out driving the town into murderous savagery.

keyword here is "try" considering the first in this trilogy picks up after the original film with not much info given on what happened in such a long time between, plus the fact that Laurie had in fact started a family at some point to have her daughter, it's most likely that she tried to move on from it but ultimately failed, especially since she knew for a fact that Michael was still alive. Lots of people in real life try to move past their trauma but are unable and end up carrying it for the rest of their lives. That said, if they were gonna use this theme, it would have been nice for them to actually elaborate a bit of what happened during the time gap to give it more weight.

The first film (Halloween 2018) is about trauma and how people exploit it in their obsession of understanding evil. The second film (Halloween Kills) is about how fear brings out our worst and most animalistic nature as well as revenge/vigilante justice is nothing but a harmful and blinding fantasy. The third film (Halloween Ends) is about paranoia and hate does nothing but create new boogeyman in our society. Michael Myers isn't the only one and evil doesn't die with him in fact evil can take any shape manifest anywhere paranoia and a lack of compassion just gives it power. This trilogy is about trauma and tragedy how it breeds paranoia and fear about how the only way we can overcome is finding resolve.

Honestly, I can see what they were trying to go for and the concept is interesting. That Michael is in fact just a man, a very disturbed and physically able man but a man nonetheless. That the town’s people and Laurie , and even Michael himself believing that he was something more was what gave him that perceived power, like a wide scale placebo effect and Laurie finally kills him for good when she realises and accepts that he is in fact mortal. Does that make the trilogy good movies? Hell no, with the exemption of the first as a decent standalone popcorn horror. So many things needed to be executed better like better exploring the theme so that the difference between Michael at his peak in the 2nd and the weakened Michael in 3 wouldnt be so jarring. Something definitely needed to be there to bridge that, show cracks appear in his mysticism. Corey also definitely needed to have been established at the start and have his arc fleshed out across all 3 films. I didn't particularly like the film at all. I thought Kills was okay -- definitely watchable with some good points to it that I enjoyed -- but I had a lot of hang-ups with it, too.
Ends, however, was a real drag just for me to get through. I didn't find Corey to be a particularly compelling or likeable character that I could get emotionally invested in as a protagonist *or* villain. Allyson became likewise an absolute pain every time she was on-screen and their romance arc... don't even get me started. All of the glorious cinematography from the 2018 film was gone, along with any hint of solid writing (especially in regards to dialogue). I think the acting took a noticeable hit, too.
I know they were trying to deal with some heavy themes in regard to cycles of violence, persecution, and depression but IMO the execution fell flat and short of the mark, at least for me. Largely sidelining the franchise golden boy until practically the last ten minutes of the movie was a weird creative choice, especially since I already had qualms about how Michael's character had been handled by this continuity.
To each their own, of course. I'm genuinely glad others were able to enjoy it. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I had high hopes and expectations as Halloween 2018 is IMO one of the best slasher films in recent history and Ends came out on my birthday and was filmed near me. See, what really bothers me about this trilogy is they say it erases everything after 1 but treat it like the whole damn series happened. Why would Laurie live in fear for 40 years after a guy in a mask killed a couple of people? I live in Newfoundland, the literal least violent place on earth. I know a guy who, in his youth, killed 3 people and tried to kill himself. He lived in a small town of about 500 people. He got out (after a long, long time in prison) and lives back there now. He doesn't have any friends but the town moved on and nobody's afraid of the guy. Anyway, it's too far fetched for me and I believe that 1 through H20 was the (far) better timeline. Even if they just left them as siblings, Laurie could feel responsible for him and prepare. When H18 startef, he wasn't even an effective killer, two of his would-be victims escaped. The fuck is everyone on about?
Tldr; they needed these films to take place before '18 to justify the fear and panic everyone is feeling. Original timeline (minus Resurrection) was far superior.

This "ending" to the trilogy didn’t feel like an ending AT ALL. I’m not really like hardcore fan of Halloween (the movies) I just liked watching it because of my stepdad. But I really liked the first two movies. It just felt like I was watching a romance movie with Allyson’s character. The kills weren’t even that prominent. And how the heck did they kill Michael that easy and quick if we saw in Halloween Kills that Michael murdered so many townspeople???

Haven’t even seen the actual movie yet, but after watching this summary it looks like they butchered Michael Myers as a character

I think the provoked Michael thing was meant as Laurie "provoked" him that night 40 years ago.

You know, if you want your new killer to be scary, maybe don’t open with him being a grown man bullied by high school band geeks.

I felt like when Michael grabbed him he gave him his energy cause Corey changed personalities after that and then later on at the end michael took his power back soon as he saw that Laurie was homie target

the only thing that bugged me about this movie was the writing!!! Everything FoundFlix pointed out was spot on. Some dialogue were so cringy and forceful too.

Watch them make a sequel where a Michael obsessed fan-girl gets all his shredded body & reassembles it like a Rubik’s cube. Then uses a dark druid spell it revive him..only for Michael to be mad he was brought back, so he grabs her and puts both themselves in the grinder alive.

It was so stupid that Lori was able to trade blows ( fight ) with Michael, fight him and also hold her own.
Michael is unnaturally strong not to mention him not dying easily or at all ( stabbing and .... doesn't do much ). There's no way that old woman was able to win the fight or stand against him for more than a few seconds.

      Agreed.
The movie was simply okay. It's nowhere near as bad as many claim it to be.
The concept of Corey becoming the new Shape should've been built up over the course of all 3 movies so that we don't need to spend Movie 3 telling his entire story.

This whole movie felt like a crazy '80s horror movie, for me in the best way. I think that the director took a lot of intentional inspiration from John Carpenter and his films. This movie almost feels more in the spirit of what Carpenter wanted to do for the sequels: an anthology about evil taking place on Halloween. I totally see why people don't like this movie, I just happen to like it 🤷

So, one of the OG movie slashers that helped kick-start the genre as a whole, resorted to nicking plot points from "Candyman" and following the failing trend of sidelining the original cast and characters in favour of younger, more "relatable" characters that have none of the staying power.
Poor franchise just can't catch a break, can it?
Half expected Cory to turn to the camera and say: "I'm Cory Skywalker."
