Definitely agree on the acrylic standees as a more cost effective alternative to minis. Just as long as they are of a decent thickness, not like the ones in The Captain Is Dead and they are cut around the character shape, not a generic rectangular outline.
Very happy to hear this. I was REALLY hoping this would be great because I adore the art. Will have to buy this for sure! Yay!
“Not necessarily in the hotness” - Directed here from from seeing this #1 on BGG hotness 😂. The power of Tom and the Dice Tower!!
Great review! If you're on the fence I recommend getting the game. I was a playtester and the final product is great. More companies should do acrylic standees when not doing minis. Get a group and be ready for a 20+ hour campaign. Enough skills, junk, and Vagrants to fit anyone's playstyle. Put in about 75 hours playtesting and still having fun going through with my family on my physical copy!
@@CharlesCom-bd2qb Game works great at 2 as the game scales difficulty based on players due to action economy. I can also say, FUN if you set yourself up with two vagrants and play solo. There is only one part of the game that has a selection you need to keep secret and all players reveal that makes it hard solo but can still be worked around. When playing solo just block out the reading parts with a card and read one line at a time.
Really nice you took the time to recommend a lesser known game, even though Zee had already reviewed it. Without your review this would not be on our radar.
This one currently holds the title for me, for the '2021 game that I go back and forth over and cant decide to buy or not'. Id classify this as a 'Boss Battler', not a dungeon crawl. Im also looking forward to more companies using acrylic standees!
I'm sold!! More importantly, one of the very few videos where my wife perked up and said, "Hey, this looks very interesting. You should get this game!" Good job Mr. Vasel. Can't wait to find a copy!
Like this change up of a review! Thanks, Tom!
Fantastic tie Tom.
Really looking forward to this, love Wyrd and everything they do. Malifaux is easily my favourite miniatures game.
Gives me a vibe of the show Over the Garden Wall
You sold me on it, thanks Tom!
I think there will be a lot of buzz. Preorders are sold out everywhere . . .
I can hardly resist a game in which you can play a healing song on the banjo, I think I need to get a copy of this.
Now it just needs to be available to buy somewhere...
I was interested during Gen Con, but after Zee and Tom’s review… well, it does help me if I am going to spend hard earned money on this.
I can't find this game anywhere.. When will it be avaliable???
Thanks Tom! When will this one be available in retail?
I ordered it from miniatures market, but it’s still only in preorder
I had never heard of this one until watching this and Zee's review, but now I absolutely must have it! Looks and sounds fantastic!
Still can't seem to pay for my pre-order though.
No money is accepted until it is on hand and ready to process, then an email will go out with shipping information and payment buttons.
Played this at Gen Con. The demo of it didn't really do much for me, but I had a friend who had pre ordered it and was stoked to try it. Maybe it was the bad demo, maybe it was the acrylic flat minis when it comes from a company that makes outstanding miniatures, or maybe whimsical/horror combo, but I was mentally predisposed not to like this. Five minutes into the first scenario and I was hooked! It just does everything so freaking well. I would gladly sit down and play this one anytime.
I would love if more board games included acrylic flat minis instead of big chunky plastic ones. I am getting plastic miniature fatigue.
@@theyodicoyote I can totally understand that. I honestly think my feeling on it towards this game is an unfair double standard. The acrylic flats in this are freaking gorgeous. I think its just because I know the company is known for making stellar miniatures, so it just seemed weird that they wouldn't put them in their new board game. Honestly though, I wouldn't feel that way about any other board game.
It’s called rubber hose animation. I absolutely love it!
Ive been waiting for a board game which uses this art style. Apparently Cup-head wasn’t that good a game and I missed Townsfolk tussle. I’ve been following Vagrantsong for a while now and will be 100% getting it when it is released.
Good review! Nice one Tom 👌🏻
Hey! I heard they migh do another kickstarter of Townsfolk tussle next year, so keep an eye to it. (I also miseed the kickstarter)
Well... crud. Now just to find a copy!
this is my #1 most anticipated game this year, and the wait for it to ship is kiiiiilling me lol. (stoopid covid / shipping crisis.)
What is this theme? Disney classic homeless person dungeoneering?
When you say it from Wyrd Games, any idea that this isn't worth getting evaporates.
How many players did you play with? Is it good at two?
The haints get to go after each player's turn so it works well at all player counts.
Finally got the pre-order payment in the inbox. BUT the shipping fees are insane (more than the game itself). All together, it would cost me more than TI, and close to Eclipse 2nd Dawn. :(
Any game that Tom and Zee give great reviews to is worth looking into. I loved the art but wasn't sure about the theme/gameplay, my reservations are now removed!
So glad I pre-ordered mine in October. I'm even more hyped for this game. Thanks for your thoughts.
If you are one of the many who was puzzled by the unfamiliar word: "Haint,", here's Burl Ives singing a truly bizarre old folksong that, near the end, has this phrase: A haint caint haint a haint: ua-cam.com/video/dXMcwlGtlDA/v-deo.html. - toby
Me and the wife about to do our second play through with the expansions added
We got it because of this review!! Thanks!!!
Is there a list of all seal of excellent games from dice tower?
I love it too❤
It is complicated though
"you can't die in the first scenario... That's the way it should be"
*Gloomhaven starts sweating*
i feel like i should own this game because i used to play in the band the pinehill haints (and still fill in for them on occasion, so years of being called a haint)... and i love the theme and style as well... but i just don't think i'd ever be able to get it to the table :/ i've got so many dungeon crawls and campaign games still in their shrink wrap, it's embarrassing.
This game HAINT that bad! Dehdehdehdehdeh 😄👍
CUPHEAD the board game
Not a dungeon crawler. A boss battler.
A warning to all: This game sucks. Don't buy it. The player turns are boring and character progression is lackluster. The game has several cases in which it is not clear how the rules should be applied. It seems like it was barely playtested.
Wow, TWO Vagrantsong reviews? Thank you so much for the kind words! Absolutely made my month.
You knocked it out of the park with this one Kyle. It's a simply stunning game.
Wish we had got a 4-square review. But 2 reviews is sure nice. Congrats on the game's success!
This game is absolutely exceptional and easily in my top 5 of all time We knocked out two scenarios and can't wait to get it back on the table.
VS is my favorite game of this type by a wide margin and is well deserving of all the praise it gets. Thank you for giving us so much in such a tidy package and congratulations on your success!
Wait. Whoa whoa whoa.... hold on here.... is this guy the designer?! I just saw this game and looked up a review as I really want to get it. It looks amazing!!!!
This is coming to the table this freaking week! No excuses!
