- Tracey Ullman They Don't Know About Us Live You've been around for such a long time now
Oh, maybe I could leave you but I don't know how
And why should I be lonely every night
When I can be with you, oh yes, you make it right
And I don't listen to the guys who say
That you're bad for me and I should turn you away
'Cause they don't know about us
And they've never heard of love
I get a feeling when I look at you
Wherever you go now, I wanna be there too
They say we're crazy but I just don't care
And if they keep on talking, still they get nowhere
So I don't mind if they don't understand
When I look at you and you hold my hand
'Cause they don't know about us
And they've never heard of love
(Do do-do-do)
Why should it matter to us if they don't approve
(Do do-do-do)
We should just take our chances while we've got nothin' to lose
Baby
There's no need for living in the past
Now I've found a love, I'm gonna make it last
I tell the others, don't bother me
'Cause when they look at you they don't see what I see
No I don't listen to their wasted lines
Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs
'Cause they don't know about us
And they've never heard of love
No I don't listen to their wasted lines
Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs
'Cause they don't know about us
And they've never heard of love
My goodness. My late Mom and me would watch The Tracey Ullman Show together. She loved her, as do I. Go Home!!!
Do you realize how few A list pop performers could go on stage and perform without vocal enhancement. Tracy Ullman for the WIN!!!! God I still love her!
She's beautiful
She’s an underrated singer! Known mainly for her comedy. Yet I think she sings incredibly!
Damn right!
Such a nice natural non-enhanced voice.
no one knows if anyone uses vocal enhancement on stage, this "problem" is only in your mind.
Tracy Ullman is fantastic. She can sing, do comedy, act, dance, do parodies, and even voice overs. She is an all around super talent.
She’s from the UK. Disney didn’t invent the idea of pretty young people who sing, dance and act. They just made it tiresome. When Tracey did it, it was rare. If you were a comedian, you might do a bit of drama, but that’s it. You probably didn’t sing or dance…not in a serious way, anyway.
You left out that she is a living Goddess
Love a bit of sarcasm.
Her sweet voice has never changed!
I really like this song.
Tracy is an unbelievably great talent, just amazing live.... God Bless Tracy Ullman
Brilliant !
This song was written and originally released by Kirsty MacColl in 1979. Tracey brilliantly covered this song in 1984 and is still one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing this performance
Thanks for the comment :)
***** I agree with what moose said. One of my faves. Tracey is a genius. Thanks, too.
And Kirsty sang backup vocals on the song :-)
@@thelordofhellaz False. The background vocals were all Tracy. Only the "Baby" line after the solo was lifted from the original.
@@salozmen29 Kristy MacColl and Rosemary Robinson sang the background vocals and yes MacColl did sing the "Baby" line as well.
This lady was and still is one of the all time greats
Really? Only thing she is great at is ruining other peoples perfectly good pop songs.
Tracy Ullman is fantastic. She is a comedian, singer, dancer, actress, impressionist, voice over artist and does them all great. I admire her
Great live performance. She has an excellent unenhanced voice. Nice video, thank you for posting it.
Thanks :)
Agreed! She's awesome aux natural :D
I love Tracey
Some singers can have a great range but not a pleasing voice. Her voice is beautiful to listen to and perfect for the pop medium. I was always surprised that another producer didn't try to find more pop hits for her. She would have drawn huge audiences as a comedienne with a string of hits.
Well, to those who doubted, she DID pull it off.
There was always something about Tracey that I couldn't resist.
Used to love watching Tracy Takes On on HBO growing up. Laughed my way through those awkward preteen and teen years
Sounds just as great live! This song REALLY takes me back to the 80's.....good times!
And this song will probably become even more popular in the 2020's as "they" is embraced by the pronoun community.
that was awesome and fun of Hump day night and get ready to party with my fav Fandom and Ship's.
I have loved this song since I was a teen back in the 1980's. It just gets better just like Tracy herself. I also met and hung out with Paul McCartney in New Orleans almost 20 years ago at O'Flattorys Irish Pub.
In 1990 I got sent to Iraq This song always lifted my spirits when we were there
2020 here, what a talented lady!!!
She's beautiful, cute and very funny. I admit I've had a crush on her since high school.
Oh yeah! Always!
I have been following her career since her first single. Aside the fact that the genius behind this fabulous songwriting is Kirsty MacColl (may she rest in peace), Tracey is the most versatile artist I have come along. Her albums have a special place on my shelf, and mind you, I found her adorable on Curb!
I love this lady
Me tooo 😂❤
Our Tracy absolutely nails it
God bless Tracey! I love 💘her! Her show was so funny! I really miss her! I'm so glad I found this video!
Do a youtube search for her, she does a fantastic parody of Dame Judi Dench getting in trouble, in fact she looks and sounds identical. She also does a brilliant paroday of Queen Camilla, Dame Maggie Smith, Angela Merkel and many others. You wont be disappointed.
Adorable ..... The Clever One!
One of my fave songs of all time. So great to hear her do it live and know she still has the chops to pull it off! Excited to hear her in Into The Woods!
Wow she really can sing. Love this song. Reminds me of being a kid. Top upload. Cheers!
+Bananadiva1 Thanks :)
Rip kirsty macoll 💜
On the record, I think it is Kirsty who does the big BAY-BEE !! towards the end.
Every decade has one song that hits home with you. For me in the 80's, it was this song. My wife and I had been married about 3 years and were so much in love. Great song and I love Tracey.
Back in the 60's it was "To Sir with Love' by Lulu. I agree, it captures the mood and rocks nicely.
+austin teutsch Manic Monday is my song that hits home from the 80's- it reminds me of my very happy teenage years and is such an iconic record, but this is never far behind.
Divorced yet bub?
I could listen to this song over and over. I have loved it since I first heard it in hs during the 80s.
very lovely.. she still has her beauty and her lovely character.. i wish they also include those back up singers of tracey to be complete.. hehe.. nice vid.. ayt
Thanks for the comment!! :)

Thanks for the comment :)
Love this song, Love Tracey, more songs please.
Brains, beauty and humour. The Holy trifecta.
Thanks for posting this! Tracey looks and sounds so fantastic in this video!
Thanks for the comment :)
... and not forgetting her two friends who backed her up on many songs, such as Breakaway .... all three so gorgeous and brilliant performers. Tracy's videos, which I think were all her work, were so clever, touching, and good as stories .... such as the lovely 'Terry.
Amanda Dickinson and Alison Thomas.
Awesome!!!!!!!
She's one of a kind. Just love her
Awesome performance! Seeing hersel on video: nice touch!

Her voice is very clear and beautiful!
Tracy is quite talented, this is just one of the songs she excelled in. What a great voice, her version of "life is a rock but the radio rolled me" is literally breaktaking.
Her clarity and control is beyond. Some only know her as an actress, comedian, but she could've been a very successful recording artist if she wanted. Check out her greatest hits and you will be a fan.
as a young kid so madly in love with her....lol...now 66 and she still makes me smile and what a crazy comedic genius...xxxxx
Tracy nailed it!
Cool; thanks for this live version!
love 2 have seen her live! What a fab singer...........
She is so unbelievably talented. I'm jealous.
Loved this song, and Tracey as a singer. Shame she didn't do more, but I recall an interview in the 1990s where she stated that being in the recording studio, doing take after take, really tried her patience as a singer. Here in the US, following the success of the album YOU BROKE MY HEART IN 17 PLACES and the single of "They Don't Know," MTV played the video for "Breakaway" a handful of times - and that was it. I was fortunate enough to catch YOU CAUGHT ME OUT as an import at the end of 1984. Stupid MCA records.
Thanks for the comment :)
She is amazing, her voice is just as wonderful as it was when I was very young. I love the way she sings this song. Perfect
A very beautiful lady and an extremely funny personality
Was a young ted in 80s . Her music was heard at hops. Complete lass. A stunner . Ty for posting. PS STILL A TED😈
I adore this. Thank You.
Such a pure natural beauty and talent, so rare in such a fecked up world of today!
A masterpiece of pop sung by a supremely talented woman.
Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both her and Kirsty made it a classic. Melts my heart still 💓
I first seen the music video on VH1 Classic when I was in 7th grade I think. Asked my mom is she remembered this song and she did, since her teenage years were primarily in the mid-80s-early 90s. Now me and her just BLAST this song when we hear it somewhere. And I'm 21 by the way, so this song has a legacy in my household.
Kerry Crouch Thanks for the comment :)
Happy 23rd. Birthday, Kerry Hope Crouch and Happy ??rd. Birthday, Kerry's Mom. I have never heard of either of you, until now. Small World.

Love this version TIMELESS
Class, no other word!
One core truth - this song is so good that it is virtually ‘bombproof’ and will continue to be so in the hands of any half-decent singer. Its simplicity, message, hook, chorus and melody offer up great raw material for a variety of artists, so the tone, tempo and instrumentation applied to each version leads to a ‘new freshness’ being discovered each time it’s recorded. I honestly don’t dislike any version that I’ve heard, because regardless of my varied musical tastes, I still find any take on it to be interesting, listenable & insightful. Without wishing to over-analyse this tune, to me it carries a rare empathy within it which can’t fail to come through in the delivery, regardless of whose point-of-view is being emphasized…..to paraphrase a Velvet Underground song title, “I’ll be your mirror”. In other words, you find in this song whatever YOU are looking for, and that’s why it’s so special. It is damn well lyrically perfect, but more than that, it creates and sustains believable emotions, empathy & even tenderness. When you hear this in any 3 minute pop song , you feel something real and authentic, which is why this song is so good. Kirsty MacColl wrote many great songs, but to me, if this was all she ever wrote, then her legacy is assured. It deserves to be. And the lyric…..” ‘Cos they don’t know about us, and they’ve never heard of love”.....these are the absolute clincher lines in this song, which elevate it to the level of sublime pop, in my opinion. Why? Because this couplet simply & ingeniously makes the listener instantly recall the feeling they had when there really was a ‘me & you’ only and for a time at least, nobody else existed. To write about the essence of love is difficult for even the best poets (maybe it’s well nigh impossible), but these two lines eloquently remind us that each perspective we have is unique, it's ours only, so it can’t truly be understood by outsiders, particularly in matters of the heart. Sheer genius, Kirsty. RIP.
david rowell - Great, totally professional observation. Like most Americans I never knew this was a cover. And I’d never heard of the original artist Kirsty MacColl. I was absolutely shocked to read online about her horrific accidental death. Her original version is awesome... 😢
david rowell yeah, all of that.
That lady is SOOOOO talented. Sings, acts, looks and comedy. Got it sewed up, by God!
Hey Battman....this is aw esome.....you always find the wonderful ones...
I didnt know she sang like this....I only knew her as a comic....so this is a real treat...
Love the Lyrics....so great....

What a darling woman !
this song was written by the late daughter Kirsty McCall (daughter of Ewan McCall, songwriter of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face)
+Rhianna Barr Tracey and Kirsty were friends. She also recorded "You Caught Me Out", "Terry", and "You Broke My Heart In Seventeen Places", and they were all awesome.
Kirsty was killed in a freak accident though in front of her family. She was only 41 years old.
+Rhianna Barr Negligent homicide of a wealthy businessman, the coward Guillermo Gonzalez Nova, who has never been prosecuted by the Mexican government for driving a speedboat through a designated swimming and diving area. She died protecting her children.
+Rhianna Barr ..... Why did you spell her name wrong ?
Jeff Higgins i think it is Kirsty.
Tracey is awesome
Happy Birthday, Tracy
Tracy made some really fine records. And she is SO funny!
So special !
