  • Steam Train Ride documents the 1987 operations of the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad from Elbe to Mineral, WA with Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad No. 5 & Heisler no. 91. Pacing scenes, cab rides with the crew alongside spectacular views of the thick wooded forests of Washington State.
The Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad was recently revived by the reorganized Western Forest Industries Museum, which has been making great strides in their efforts of revitalizing the railroad. WFIM recently announced their plans of restoring no. 5 to operating condition. Soon, MRSR will be running 2 Mikados on it's excursion trains. For those interested in supporting the restoration of no. 5, please consider making a donation to WFIM's GoFundMe page.

Sorry about the lack of new videos on the channel. Multiple projects are in the works as of writing this. Some unexpected technical challenges have delayed a majority of the forthcoming videos on the channel & are actively being sorted out.

    Thanks for uploading this!
Fun fact: This steam engine was used in the 1990 movie Come See the Paradise with Sandra Oh & Dennis Quaid. It was taken all the way down in northern Oregon at a siding where they filmed it

Great historic video. Comparing this one to the current ones seeing all the clearings and unblocked views and the lack of timber on the hills. A lot has grown up in the last 30+ years. Too bad the loop track in Mineral is gone. Even seeing the changes in Elbe with the new depot and the hobo inn not there yet. I grew up there in the PNW, and the family still has cabins and property in Ashford. It's great to see what WFIM has been doing to get the railroad back running.

NIIICE !!!! Beautiful shots !!!! I like the tip of the hat to the Southern Pacific commute coaches the SUBS short for suburban. So glad that this operation is once again alive and kicking as of June 2024.

You could see Pickering Lumber Shay #11 prior to her early 1990s restoration. #11 last ran in 2001.
